Buckley Farmhouse

The property was delightful with a pretty driveway and a welcoming courtyard all set in the beautiful countryside of East Devon. Sue welcomed us to Buckley Farmhouse and as well as our room, invited us to use a beautiful and spacious guest’s sitting room and a garden terrace, which on a sunny day was a lovely bonus. In spite of feeling that we were in the middle of nowhere, Sidmouth was in fact very close by. Although our actual bedroom was on the small side, the en suite more than made up for it, lots of space and good quality toiletries. We were very comfortable. Sue even managed to fit in a portable fridge to store the fresh milk for tea/coffee which was a nice touch. Breakfast was a very elegant occasion. Beautifully laid tables with pretty china and a fine choice of breakfast fare. Our cooked choice was delicious and freshly cooked by Sue’s husband.

We stayed here as it was close to the Donkey Sanctuary that we wanted to visit. Our hosts were welcoming and provided a high level of hospitality, food and a spacious room. We had access to a garden terrace and lounge. We discovered Branscombe which is about 20 mins from Buckley Farmhouse. We had a delicious lunch in the pub, followed by a meandering walk past trees and meadows until we came to Branscombe Mount (beach). This provided a wonderful view of the coastline, topped off with an ice-cream. We had meals at the Red Lion in nearby Sidbury.

Lovely Farmhouse - beautiful, rural setting. Clean, comfortable rooms in a really peaceful location. Delicious breakfast - cooked to order. Lovely to see the happy free-range hens. The hosts - Sue & John & their adorable little dog 'Smudge' were very welcoming & hospitable. Hope to return & would definitely recommend. Thank you!

Would love to have seen the three adorable resident ducks to have had a nice warm straw bed in their shed at night, rather than just a cold concrete floor.

Buckley farmhouse was a fantastic find! Set in a gorgeous spot views of the countryside all around. Our room was beautiful, so quiet and Sue's attraction to detail spot on, she had even placed a lovely vase of flowers in our room. The breakfasts were super, plenty to choose from and cooked to order. We will definitely be back!

To be honest we couldn't fault this place, we unfortunately had the typical UK bank holiday weather, chargeable breezy with showers.

The location was truly beautiful, the views from the garden and the windows of our room were far reaching and serene. We enjoyed sitting in the spacious garden soaking up the peaceful and secluded atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious, cooked to order, and nothing was too much trouble. The farmhouse itself is very roomy, you could relax in the sitting room, outside on the terrace or in the garden. The decor and furnishings were very tasteful, we really felt as though we had stayed somewhere quite special. We would love to stay again.

Wonderful location. Superb breakfast. Nice cool room in summer heat. Comfy bed and chairs. A litte terrace to sit out on with a view of the sea.

As we were aware we had an external to the room bathroom but we didnt realise this involved a short walk & then 3 steps to door & the one big step down to bathroom. As one of us is slightly mobilé challenged this wasn't easy. Also the shower was a not really suitable for someone with mobility issues. But we must stress that the pros outweighed the cons and we enjoyed our stay very muchp

Wonderful and peaceful location. It is possible to walk into Sidbury village where there is a pub that do meals. Gardens and land of the farmhouse are relaxing to walk around and there are even hens and ducks free-ranging around providing fresh eggs for the excellent breakfasts ! Sue is a lovely host, we enjoyed our stay and hope to return next time we are visiting South Devon.

Wonderful farmhouse cannot fault anything we had the room which was very spacious that had a separate private bathroom( little sceptical not having en-suite ) again very spacious & I didn't find it a problem at all , great base for travelling around certainly be back ,breakfast was excellent & Sue could not do enough for us .

Very narrow lanes to the farmhouse go careful only room for one car in most places , but soon got used to them 😆

The room was very comfortable with on-suite. Tea/coffee making facilities and tv. The view from our window was lovely, the grounds of the Farmhouse are beautiful and well kept. Our hosts were lovely and welcoming, even little smudge who is adorable. Breakfast was amazing, portions were just right, I love poached eggs and am very particular about how I like them cooked, all I can say is they were fantastic. Big pot of tea and proper sugar bowl with spoon, no messing with little sachets. If we are down that way again we will definitely stay here.

Our room decor was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. We really appreciated the peace and quiet of the lovely surroundings. Excellent choice available for breakfast and the eggs were the best we’ve tasted! Location was very convenient for access to events we were attending in Sidmouth and Ottery.
