Nice property and location, the garden lodge was lovely with lovely views of the grounds. The staff were all friendly and polite, exceedingly helpful.spa staff very professional.

Maintenance an issue throughout, small details ie broken toilet roll holders, closed toilets and showers, in the spa 24 jets and only 4 working, ran out of lager on tap after the first night, breakfast lovely, dinner appalling, risotto like a soggy bowl Of slop, meats are fatty and tiny portions bulked out by veg. Staff went the extra mile to try and cover it, but uphill battle for them .

Parking was easy and close to the entrance where we were welcomed by the lovely hotel manager. She escorted us to the room which was amazing. The claw foot bath in a good sized bathroom with gorgeous towels was real luxury. Being able to use Elemis products in the bathroom was very nice. The four poster bed was very comfortable and had lovely pillows. The coffee bags were nicer than the usual instant. The temperature of the bedroom was perfect. Both dinner and breakfast was amazing - good quality and quantity. All of the staff were very friendly, and the property was very quiet. Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to use the spa facilities, but we will be back.

The access to the tea tray in the room wasn’t the easiest to get in and out of the wardrobe - just a minor thing.

A very good welcome which set the tone for the whole visit. Staff most attentive. Very quiet room. The grounds in which the hotel is set are maginificent and extensive. The new management just in place are clearly keen to look after guests and encourage their return. Dinner offered a good choice and was tasty. Breakfast was good value and offered good variety. We definitely shall return.

Bed would have benefitted from a firmer base. The hotel is under new management who are keen to spruce up some of the more tired decoration, which will be helpful.

Reception was very welcoming and helpful and the room small but well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and cosy. Breakfast was efficient and substantial with great quality ingredients.

I arrived late and found the room cold with the en-suite bathroom very cold. The heating was slow to kick in and getting out of bed was not the most comfortable. I took a long time to get hot water in the bathroom and the shower was difficult to stand up in owing to a sloping roof (I'm average height).

our second stay - love the rooms we book in the spa that back on to the pool etc, makes for a really personal and special experience. Love the quietness of the area in/around hydrotherapy pool.

one small gripe this time but didn’t overly impact our stay… the room we stay in has an upper level that hangs out over the bed. there appeared to be a drainage problem which result in a leak every couple of minutes right next to my husbands pillow. wasn’t too much of an issue as beds are big so he moved up but in the morning there was a light brown stain on the bed which was concerning as to what was leaking….

The price was cheaper than a basic Premier Inn room. I was given a free upgrade on arrival. Breakfast was free and very good. All of the the staff I met were really friendly. The atmosphere felt exclusive during my whole stay and the spa pool was very good as well as quiet. The room I was in not only had a lot to offer, but had good decor and a comfy bed in which only took me a minute to fall asleep on both nights. The corridors around the house also have old drawings relating to its history. There is free parking too. Note: This is a very British hotel in which is ideal for someone/couples wanting to visit the likes of Bath, Bristol, Shepton and Wells. If you are coming by bus, there is the 174 nearby that can take you to Bath.

I think some of the decor was a bit tired. Note: There is a £15 per night charge for using the spa facilities if booked on a third-party site. Therefore, I advise you also look at the Bannantyne website and compare the cost with the add-on if you wish to use the spa.

beautiful hotel,great spa- I had a facial and it was super ! excellent food- dinner and breakfast couldn’t fault ! staff were mostly attentive - some quite young but they worked hard .

our room was the old chapel room11-the curtains were put up by Velcro . we were not told this until we asked why we couldn’t open the curtains . the staff ripped them down during the day and put them back up for us at night- not what we were expecting at this lovely hotel. the management decided it wasn’t worthy of any discount - at one point they suggested I climb on the furniture to put the curtains up myself! so I was disappointed by this reaction- however I wrote to the head office and they were very quick to apologize and send me a complimentary voucher- much better service! so be warned the hotel is lovely- shabby chic but room 11 was only shabby !

Lovely old building, really well set up, friendly and accommodating personnel. Great food and service.

Pillows, not sure why every hotel uses pillows that are almost none existent. I have started bringing a pillow when we stay in a hotel, I am yet to find one with good to sleep on pillows

overall staff were friendly especially at the reception. A nice setting, the dinner was good and the breakfast was excellent.

The restaurant had a lot of dead flies around the windows, and the white material covers on the inside roof of the dining room conservatory had lots of dead flies. We know it was hot and the windows were open but the flies that were dead had been there for sometime. The carpet outside our room was threadbare and looked a little off putting. But those things can always be fixed.

Staff were very friendly and efficient. They had time to chat and were attentive and polite. Our room was outstanding. Very comfortable indeed. I loved the roll top bath and my partner loved the walk in rainfall shower. Breakfast was delicious.

Most of the jets in the hydro pool weren't working. Artificial flowers around the dining area are a little tacky.
