The room was large, spotless and spacious, very friendly staff, but the highlight was the restaurant. I had halloumi kebabs. It was probably the nicest meal I have ever had. Grilled halloumi, flat bread, tzatziki, hummus, salad and fries. Amazing. The breakfast the following morning was again exceptional. Lots of choice, as a vegetarian, there is often only 1 or maybe 2 things I can eat, but I was spoilt for choice. 10/10

Liked everything. Shower pressure was a little poor at one point, but I’m being picky.

breakfast: good choices of cooked breakfast. I only stayed a day so only tried one choice. room: considering it is in a 18th century building it was OK - liked the big openable windows both in the bedroom and bathroom. dinner: I had dinner there, I had to book, which I understood why when it got really crowded for dinner. The menu was really varied and what I ordered was very nice, pleanty and fresh. Great location!

bin in bathroom was full of previous guests' rubbish. So I did not use it. No soap dish in shower box, so you can only put your stuff on the floor - which is odd because it is a fairly big shower box... No hooks whatsoever, ....but perhaps that is a Penrith thing! I stayed in 4 different hotels within a week as I was with a walking group, and none of the 4 hotels I stayed in and around Penrith had any hooks in the bathroom or anywhere else.... No lift, but perhaps undestandable in such a old building.

Great location, lovely lively downstairs bar but really quiet upstairs in the room. The food was faultless, breakfast and food from the menu, we will definitely go for lunch if we are in Penrith 😊the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. We would (and have) highly recommend this place for accommodation and food. Thank you x

The car park was a bit hard to find but not complaining because it was free and plenty big enough. Friday night was very busy in the bar so it wasn’t easy to find a seat but it was nice to see them doing well and there were plenty of staff working. It’s a deservedly popular place even though it rained 😊

Evening meal and breakfast so much choice and delicious -beautiful printed menus - just little touches make all the difference- staff very attentive to our needs -we are an elderly couple - the room housekeeper helped us down with our luggage he was so kind - and jolly - as being an old building no lift bedroom amazing room 18 - free standing bath and en-suite with walk in shower - large room - free parking -

Perfect overnight stay for our Wedding Anniversary - and near the event we had planned at Dalemain Medieval Hall to see all the Vintage and Classic Cars show - weather was kind as well for us.

Needed somewhere to stop on my journey south, arrived at 6.30 pm, a group were playing in the bar. Spoke to the staff re my booking, was informed of my room, where it was. Enquired regarding an evening meal, that was available, so ordered, arrived promptly and was very nice. Room was very nice and clean, beds very comfortable, the group finished playing around 9pm so that was great, as I was very tired having drove for over 7 hours. Breakfast was excellent, a great choice, along with the usual fruit juices and cereals. Car parking is available at the rear of the property

Location was great for getting to Ullswater and also close to the M6. Staff were all very friendly. Lots of cooked breakfast options and generous portion sizes. The room was the perfect size and had a really comfy bed and pillows. Bathroom was small but the shower was powerful.

Parking was a bit of a pain as the car park was full on the second night of my stay, so I had to find somewhere else to park overnight. It was also quite noisy in the room at night due to central location, but didn't really bother me as I sleep quite easily. And, only a very minor point, but it would have been nice to have a better coffee with breakfast (e.g. latte, cappuccino).

Loved the central location and friendly staff. Also loved that there were gluten free and vegetarian options for breakfast

The breakfast was too fancy for us peasant folk. Neither of us would normally eat sourdough, or halloumi, or salmon, or tofu. We tried everything, and whilst it was perfectly cooked. We couldn't finish it. There was nothing wrong with it, we just don't like certain foods, it was the first time we'd tried some of them. What we did eat, was delicious. This isn't a fault of the venue, this is on us for not asking for poached egg and baked beans or poached egg and bacon and beans. We would have been delighted with this.

Staff were friendly enough, room was clean with most of the expected amenities, bed was comfortable. Nice selection of teas and coffee. Breakfast had a nice selection of options and all cooked to order. A selection of fruit juice and cereals was available to help yourself to.

The room was blisteringly hot and the bathroom was more akin to a sauna, to top it off there was no complimentary water. This cost in excess of £2 for a very small bottle from the bar. When 0.5Litre bottles cost less than £0.20 I would have thought a couple of bottles in the room would not have been hard to provide, considering how warm the room was.

Superb options for breakfast - even tailored to our specific requests of not wanting a full english.... a partial one with toast. Everything was done with a smile. We even had our evening meal here and it was delicious! Loved the village/town... bought many things in the tailored men's shop and the charity shops. It was so central in the middle of everything.

A little walk to the car park (maybe 100 yards), but due to the location this was a price worth paying. The reason I downgraded a star was because of the noise - but to fair if you want to stay in the centre on the main road then this is the price. It wasn't too bad, I just live on a cul de sac so not used to a peep.

The room and I assume the complete hotel appears recently refurbished and re-planned. Our room was in excellent condition, a good size and not overly hot on a very warm day. The ensuite had a large shower and was a good size. The rooms are on first floor along a relatively narrow corridor with a few changes of direction, but it is not too bad. Breakfast was excellent with the 'full Cumbrian' proving to be a generous offering, freshly prepared. Coffee in particular was strong and tasty. Staff were all friendly and welcoming.

There could have been more space for the self service section of breakfast to allow for soft or dried fruit, bread and a toaster, but his was a minor issue.
