Arundel House Hotel

Comfortable room with two easy chairs, which many hotels do not provide. Pleasant dining room.

The hotel charges £15 per night for parking if booking is made through Booking.com but is free if the booking is made direct with the hotel. Similarly only continental breakfast is included in the price through Booking.com. Full English breakfast is charged at £9.xx per person. This is not indicated on the Booking.com information, which says "Breakfast included". As Arundel House is an English hotel one would expect an included breakfast to be full English unless otherwise stated.

Friendly and professional staff at all levels; very comfortable room; fabulous location

'Breakfast' was 'included'. This actually turned out to be a very basic continental breakfast. It was a £12.50 charge on top for a cooked breakfast; you did not find this out until you sat down to breakfast. Please amend the description to reflect this i.e. 'Continental breakfast included' so as to manage expectations.

We had a family room for two adults and a 16-year old. This was perfect as the 16-year old had her own separate small room. The location is great, and our room overlooked the river.

The double bed in our family room was very narrow (140cm?). At breakfast I'm pretty sure the espressos we ordered were some kind of powder/packet rather than from an espresso machine.

Our room was comfortable and had a beautiful large bay window with a view of the River Cam. Everything was spotless and in proper working order. The Continental breakfast which was included in the price of the room was very nicely laid out and of good quality. The outside area looked very inviting and I wished that we were staying more than one night. All in all it was superb value for money. On leaving the hotel, I said to the receptionist 'This is one of nicest hotels we have ever stayed in' and I meant it. I have since written a similar review on TripAdvisor.

Check-in was easy with flexible staff and very friendly. Lovely size of rooms and great breakfast, conservatory and bar/restaurant facilities. Location is also great. Great having magnetic access keys. Wi-Fi signal strength was very good throughout property + internet speed on the Wi-FI network was acceptable (didn't need to use it beyond phone so can't comment if was fast or just acceptable).

Room is a bit stuffy and some better ventilation in the room would be good as well as the provision of light sheet during the summer, rather than just a thick winter duvet.

Arundel House is in the perfect location for family visits. The Hotel is nicely styled and furnished. Our large, twin room on the 1st floor was very roomy and comfortable, fashioning tall, sash windows in the wide bay, allowing the sunlight to shine through whilst providing a lovely vista of the Cam. The staff, especially Beatrice, and the breakfast team, where just lovely humans. We'll be back!

Okay, this may sound fussy, but the tea and coffee in the rooms could be improved, a few more treats in the twin rooms would be lovely. Also, the facilities information (such as restaurant hours) could be amended according to seasons, as it was not possible to get lunch at the hotel during our stay, because restaurant hours differed to that which is stated on the room info sheet. Perhaps recommending (on paper), The Boat House Bar and restaurant, two minutes down the road would work out well. Other than this, Arundel House is a lovely place to stay. I would recommend it.

The whole hotel was so hot! The rooms did not have a fan. Had to open the windows for fresh air and cooling. Couldn’t sleep with the windows open as road noise and pedestrians noise. Had to draw the heavy curtains shut to block out the floodlights which shine on the exterior of the building. Looked lovely from the street but we had a front facing room which was floodlit!!

The room was a comfortable size, with a single bed, good size wardrobe, a safe, table and armchair, desk, and coffee/tea supplied. Small bathroom a bit dated but functional and with air drier. Very clean. The room was facing the back and was very quiet. Simple English and continental breakfast was good and served in a lovely space. We also had dinner on site with access to bar. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is fantastic for the main attractions and old city centre. 10 mins car ride from train station costing a bit less than £10. Easy access to cabs.

The position of the TV was not great if you wish to watch it in bed. But I did not use it, so not a problem for me. Also I do not think there is a lift, so may be an issue for some. Otherwise I cannot see anything I really disliked with the place.

Lack of personalities within the staff. 1 receptionist exceptional, both professional, efficient and friendly. Remainder of staff throughout hotel either not trained or just not interested. Also suggest, if bar closing before detailed time stated on the issued leaflet, then the Bar staff should announce this to the guests in the bar area. Again, are they trained? Surely it's about the guests experience at your hotel.

Charming old hotel. Friendly, professional staff. Wonderful continental breakfast: ham, breads, cheese, yogurts, fruits…taken in beautiful conservatory garden room. Very clean. Comfortable walk to the central tourist/uni district. Picturesque location on River Cam.

Be advised: no a/c or lifts. Bumpy start at check in: confirmation indicated main building, but we were placed in carriage house in rear - ground floor didn’t make us comfortable with windows necessary to be open at night (due to lack of a/c) and car parked within arms reach of window - and full view into our room. Worked with front desk to move us to an upper floor; felt more comfortable.
