All the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar when having drinks in the evening. The breakfast was excellent, with a good choice.

We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday night, and were disappointed to find that the restaurant is closed on both these days. (Restaurant opening days/times are not shown on the pub's website or Facebook page). However, the staff member was able to recommend the Furzeleigh Mill for dinner (about 7 mins easy walk from the Abbey Inn) and we had a good meal there instead.

The room was lovely The room was clean The room had a beautiful view The breakfast was fantastic, thanks to the cook, who seemed to have to take orders and cook it ? Young lady who was in bar , long blonde hair tied back in a plat, was an asset to the Inn, polite and friendly and attentive. We absolutely loved it. Good job !

The breakfast lady having to cope on her own ! I felt like offering to help her ! Now ... not so good news. A young lady, with long blonde strait hair, on our last day was helping out , with breakfast, she was polite enough, but made it clear to your guests that she was busy and they had to wait, a man asked for another coffee whilst waiting for his breakfast, she told him she would, but he must wait as she only had one kettle, and other guests needed, tea/coffee before him...... Now we are in a B&B with several rooms, all with kettles ! Come on ...

Welcomed at reception was good and directed to the room. The dinner menu was good and the food was fine. The room was in a good position overlooking the River but the room was had seen better days and really needs a tidy up with some decor. It lacks plug sockets to charge anything and so you need to move the bed in order to unplug the table lamp and use that socket.

As above, the room needs decorating with some repair to furniture and some sockets to charge phones etc. I was on a business trip and had to head back to Yorkshire the next day. Breakfast served from 8am onwards is of no use when the traveller needs to get going, a 7am onwards would be beneficial.

Every member of staff was phenomenal and worked hard to provide a great stay. Breakfast was delicious. Enjoyed a meal there as well. The restaurant is clearly popular on a Sunday. Room was all really clean. The setting is beautiful with rooms overlooking the river. So relaxing to just watch the water. Lovely smell of a log fire too in the bar. Easy to access other places. Genuinely thought it was phenomenal value.

For the price, there was nothing I didn’t like, if that makes sense. A friend was staying in a ‘smart’ hotel in London at the same time. Their bathroom was swankier. It also cost 6 times more to stay there. The Abbey Inn offered a great stay at a quality way above its price.

The crew was wonderful, very helpful. We got extremely delayed on our way to the hotel because of a huge train delay. After a phonecall they general manager promised to keep the check in open and wait for us. Amd when we finally arrive we instantly felt welcome. No matter the issue (two of us are Celiac and have milk protein allergy, one of our boys is autistic and extremely picky with his food) they worked with us to help. Tea was lovely, very generous amounts. The fish and chips for lunch is the best one we ever had. Generous portions, nice and friendly atmosphere at the entire hotel and pub. Breakfast was delicious, even of we didn't understood how to order first because we're used to the Swedish "Serve yourself" breakfast buffet version. Stunning View.

We liked everything on our stay.

Nice cosy room with a beautiful view. A spacious and tidy restaurant area. A decent evening and breakfast menu, all nicely prepared, and plenty of it. A nicely set out bar area. Good facilities all round. And the evening menu is reasonably priced.

The selection of drinks within the bar are reasonable. But sadly the prices were all little too high for my liking, and I was not the only one who expressed surprise at the prices. I enjoy a nice pint of ale, and my wife a wine or an occasional brandy. And whilst I'm aware drink prices vary all over the country, over five pounds for a pint of beer is a little high.

The room was delightful with a view of trees and the river - in our brief leisure time (we were in the area for a family event) we enjoyed sitting in the little bay window watching the water. The staff were pleasant. The room was clean and there was decent wifi. Don't be put off by the road side approach, once you get round the back the setting is delightful. I'm convinced if we'd stayed with more leisure we'd have seen kingfishers!

The only reason I marked it down a little was because while the breakfast menu sounded fabulous, the quality was not as fresh and delicious as it sounded perhaps because we didn't go for the most traditional option (the avocado seemed to have been industrially processed or at least pre-prepared - it was quite weirdly shredded and doused in a not-very-appetising brine so tasted neither of avocado nor of chilli but just a bit bland and sour). The breakfast would not put us off coming again if we were visiting the area however, we'd probably just choose something more standard.

This place is a little gem! We were in a room called Dart and our window looked out over the River Dart! This place was perfect, I did feel sorry for the staff, they were so busy (if you're the boss and reading this, they all need a pay rise 😀), they were all cheerful and helpful. The room was a good size, the bed was just right. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was delicious! We spent a bit of time outside in the lovely beer garden, listening to the river but unfortunately the rain just kept getting heavier. It's an easy walk into the Abbey and that's a beautiful old building.

There was nothing about this place that we didn't like

One step stopover, on our way to Cornwall. Quite a sizable car park, but on a difficult blind bend, if you are unsure of it. A warm and friendly welcome from staff, who sorted our rooming issue out within minutes. I had booked a single room for two adults, with an extra person payment, our room was changed to a double in minutes. Great pub and beer garden with fab views of the river and trees, very relaxing to sit and listen and watch the birds and water fowl. Very helpful staff as they endeavoured to get me something I could eat for dinner, (having multiple allergies). Even had an off menu bowl of chips! I was lovely to move to the ding room and still have a great view. Breakfast was brilliant, plenty of choice of cold and freshly cooked to order. I had the Vegetarian breakfast and was delighted it did not include veggie sausage and bacon, (yuk) but halloumi, a new one on me, but very pleasing. Plus I could order gluten free toast. Hubby had classic Devon, which he said was delicious, all fresh local ingredients cooked to perfection. Hot tasty cafetiere of coffee. What more can I say, ran out of superlatives! A fabulous place we will visit again. The Abbey at Buckfast was lovely to visit the, even in the rain, free admission and parking, plenty to see, with beautiful buildings and gardens, plenty of historic information.

There is no lift to upper floors, so anyone with severe disabilities would struggle. I myself have mobility issues, but managed the stairs slowly, and with help and patience from staff, it did not spoil anything. The rain the next day could have stayed away.

Staff were amazing, made to feel very welcome from the very first interaction. It was our wedding anniversary and we were surprised with a specially dressed table for our dinner that evening, and all staff remembered and wished us happy anniversary. The location is beautiful, and easy walking distance to the railway station, town centre and the Buckfast Abbey. Food was excellent quality, and hubby loved the beer selection!

Had to sit almost sideways to use the toilet as wall directly in front for shower, and I am only 5ft 4ins, poor hubby was worse as over 6ft. Shower control not easy to use, and it was broken first morning so shower was actually scalding hot to extent unable to shower properly. It was fixed for the next morning though, again shower control not easiest to use/understand but that may just be us.
