Moracea by Khao Lak Resort - SHA Extra Plus

Fantastic breakfast in the pavilion down by the sea. The whole resort is very nicely designed and it feels like you have a lot of privacy. Nice gardens and pools a bit hidden between bungalows and villas. Fabulous stretch of beach, even after a walk along the beach all the way to the Bang Niang inlet/river we liked the beach of Moracea best: nice and sandy, never crowded and with nice waves. There is a very nice bar at the beach. The resort is spread along a hillside, but this was not a big problem as every care was taken to make bungalows and rooms accessible and it was quick and easy to order a buggy if you didn't feel like walking. We travelled in the monsoon season, and we needed the buggy a couple of days as the main rain shower was after breakfast. It's a 10-minute walk to the Khao Lak village and there's restaurants even closer, which was nice as the hotel restaurant is rather pricy and gets easily boring. It is easy to organize tours by yourself, we went to an elephant camp by taxi, to the sea turtle conservatory and waterfalls by private car, and to the James-Bond Island (private car to the coast and hired a boat on the spot) at Phang Nga. There were no tours to the Similan Islands in monsoon season. The hotel has good airconditioning (not noisy or too cold) and the showers were hot and had excellent pressure (which is often a problem in Thailand). The staff was very friendly and helpful with every wish.

The rain was a bit boring as it kept raining 2 of the 4 days of our stay, and then there is not so much to do around. Of course this is not the hotels fault. However, the tour operator located in the lobby is not very helpful and has very limited (and pricy) tours on offer. But there is always a local taxi on the road just outside that can give you all the tourist information you need.

I stayed in the Pool Beach Villa and I have stayed in many villas but this one was amazing, steps to a white sand beach and lovely pool big enough for laps. There is also a nice grass area and trees in front of the villa for privacy prying eyes, perfect for morning exercise. The bedroom was very tasteful and well planned, I slept with the screen open and could hear the waves all night. It was a full moon and I had the beach all to myself after about 11PM. Decor is outstanding in the villa. 2 baths both gorgeous. I stayed alone and the staff made me feel like a Queen, I will be back!

Firstly, let me say I do a lot of travelling and rate hotels on value for money. One cannot expect super luxury for $10 per night. So please bear this in mind when reading this review and compare like with like. The Moracea at Kaho Lak is without doubt the best value for money hotel I have ever stayed in. True, we were in the off season but we got an amazing new villa by the beach and pool in a quiet spot with breakfast included. The hotel facilities were excellent with a modern gym, a spa, lots of pools, a pool table, bars and a restaurant. The beach was beautiful, although the sea was a little rough when we stayed. The staff do a great job in sweeping the beach clean several times a day so it is pristine. The water is very clean but during monsoon the sand kicked up by the waves can make it appear cloudy. We had daily rain storms of a few hours and it was quite humid (we went late august) but we found the weather very pleasant. The grounds are well manicured with a jungle feel but it is quite hilly with lots of steps, which may not suit the old or the infirm. The local town is an easy 10 minute walk away on a safe pathway with good lighting. The area is very, very safe. In the town there are plenty of cheap restaurants, some more expensive joints, bars and massage salons. If you fancy a new suit or some cheap 'brands' there are many, many market stalls and shops. The food at breakfast was varied and high quality while the staff throughout the complex were superb.

As always, there is room for improvement but these are all minor points intended to assist the hotel staff and should not be taken as criticism. Firstly, the restaurant food at lunch and dinner was good quality but expensive when compared to the restaurants in town. The same goes for the cocktails and drinks, although 'Happy Hour' made the drinks very reasonably priced. Secondly, the older parts of the resort were in need of renovation as they were starting to look a little bit dated and worn. Finally, the wifi was a little temperamental and difficult at times with a clunky code and password system.

The resort is big and has several different swimming pools. Private beach is quiet, clean and beautiful. Our room is spacious and bright. Staff are very friendly and responsive. It is close to Khao Lak centre only 10-15 minutes walk if you want some local and cheap meals.

Our frist room had some drainage problems but hotel quickly changed us to a new room. Breakfast is OK.. Get board after 5 days. Wish it had more varieties

At the beginning I would like to underline that I am one of those travellers who have seen many places and hotels. Moracea was an absolute amazing experience. i don't know where to start. The location- jungle/coast/at the sea - just beautiftul. The hotel is so amazing green, you have wildlife everywhere, a waran can join your breakfest. The room was absolutely fabulous, with a big place to work a tub and shower. The swimming pool were great. The staff - what nice and friendly people. The distance to city is 10 minutes walk or 2 minutes on scooter. I can only compare it with the quality and location from Maledives so far.

We booked this last minute, we were pleasantly surprised at the good location, a short walk from good local Thai restaurants, there were always taxis outside the resort to take you a little further to Khao Lac centre. The resort itself was in an amazing location on the beach with some local beach bars / restaurants to stroll to. The resort was immaculately kept, the room we stayed in was well appointed and good facilities. The room was kept beautifully clean by the house keeping staff. ALL of the staff at Moracea were amazing, very friendly, helpful and efficient. Would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

Two small things, no proper slippers in the room only flip flops, and an iron and ironing board in the room would have be nice as we were travelling so living out of a suitcase where clothes get creased (these would not prevent me from booking this again) Some of the larger room blocks were a bit shabby on the outside but we understand there is a renovation programme in place post COVID. (again this would not stop me booking again)

The hotel is located at the very good part of Khao Lak beach, the water access is super comfortable, the beach itself is very clean. Even though the hotel is rather big, one can feel pretty secluded especially if staying on a villa (which I strongly recommend especially compared to the beach-front bungalows where together with the beach front you get constant presence of people walking around, golf cars and all the interruption you can think of). The food variety of the hotel restaurants is more than sufficient, also good local places are within short walking distance. The hotel personnel will accommodate your requests without any eagerness but still))) Very comfortable and tough bed.

Let’s be honest - this hotel is good but not a five-star one as declared. Tired sun beds and umbrellas which can be challenging to find unoccupied also. No full size mirror, no scales, loud air conditioner, squeaky doors. I just wish they could improve and provide better value for the money paid.

The room had a stunning interior design, and it was spacious and comfortable. The setting of the resort complex as a whole, was a piece of art. The rooms, beds, and bathroom were large, all well maintained and cleaned on a daily basis. There was a strong water flow in the shower, (something not to take for granted). The buffet breakfast was delicious, and had a vast selection. I guess it was the best we had in Thailand. The hotel offers various free activities, like folding towels into animal shapes.

Breakfast was tasty and plenty of options in a beautiful setting by the beach. The rooms were beautiful, large, maintained well and really reflect the photos. The bath was amazing and the reading nook was soo luxurious. I loved the entry right into the pool and having the deck chairs at your balcony, so good.

The room service is not good - the food is not tasty and it comes cold most of the time. While it comes quickly, It would be worth the hotels time getting a restaurant or similar to do the food as many of the options are not that tasty. There were some good options but considering how pricey it is, it really was hit and miss. This is across the western and thai menu.

The Grand Deluxe Hibiscus room we had was one of the best rooms ever, in terms of facilities, comfort, sea views and luxurious bathroom layout.😀 The service was impeccable from start to finish, with so many helpful smiling staff to ensure our stay was totally perfect! 🙌 The swimming pool and beachside areas were wonderful , with lovely designs and ample loungers, which can so often be a drag. The lovely beachside bars were wonderful, serving delicious food and cocktails at good prices, particularly with the wide variety of Happy Hours available from 4pm through to 10.30pm! 🥂 Breakfasts provided a level of variety, quality and quantity to satisfy anyone from anywhere.
