Hotel Gabbani

The hotel is nestled in the old town on narrow cobblestone streets, over a street side cafe. It has just 11 rooms. Ours had draped, frosted but openable, windows overlooking an alley(not intereating) and another that opened to an inner courtyard overlooking the market and Cafe. Spacious bathroom, and AIR CONDITIONING which was missed in other Swiss hotels this trip. Breakfast was 20 CHF with the usual variety of hot and cold offerings, but we chose to eat in the cafe with ala carte breakfast items. It ended up being about the same price but better hot item choices and better morning street vibe.. it is a very short walk to the waters edge.

Be aware that there is a WONDERFUL funicular to get you from the train station to the lower level where the hotel is located! So much easier than the multiple flights of stairs adjacent to it! Too bad we didn't see it when we arrived!

I loved the room and especially the huge marble bathroom … one of the nicest bathrooms. It’s above a restaurant and market which is so cute and has great atmosphere. The location couldn’t be any better!! I couldn’t hear any noise from the restaurant in my room. Also the staff gave me an iron it was perfect, and the mattress was very comfortable. Everything worked and was clean, it was a 4 star hotel experience kind of. Also a free city transportation ticket! I would stay here again.

There was no view from the room but I knew that. It at least didn’t face another room. There wasn’t really a place to sit for guests outside the room, a lounge was missing - but there’s the adorable restaurant and outdoor space as well and I just ordered a coffee or water and sat there when waiting, it worked.

When I arrived there was a problem with my room - issues with the lighting system which meant some lights wouldn't switch off and an unpleasant smell from the mini bar fridge. The staff were really helpful in particular Daria who did her best to solve the problems and was very apologetic but couldn't find me another room as they were fully booked. The next morning Daria moved me to a beautiful room which was also an upgrade for which I was really grateful - the issue was unavoidable and these things happen!

Loved the location - was a quick walk down from the train station. The taxes paid as a part of the stay go towards bus/funicular rides so it is easy to get around town while staying here. The Gabbani family has a bit of a monopoly in town owning a really great wine/cheese store with great selection downstairs and on Wednesdays has free nibblies to enjoy with drink during happy hour! My niece and I picked out a bottle of wine to bring up to our room (not large, but had everything we needed - and when we called for more pillows, they came right up!) and enjoyed sleeping on the comfortable beds. Overall, this was a very nice location, value for money, and enjoyable, safe, comfortable stay for a quick weekend to get outside and do some light hiking and take in the views. The location was perfect! We arrived by train, took the funicular, and the hotel was a few steps away. Very easy! The breakfast was great and the hotel room was clean and quiet.

The room was hot. The temperature could not be adjusted from the room so I asked the girl at the check in counter to turn the temperature down in our room. She said she would but It was still hot. The pillows could have been a little firmer but that’s just personal preference.

Room was very clean and had a/c which was a welcomed bonus. The hotel does offer a breakfast option. They also provide some discounts for other restaurants in the area. It was an easy walk from the train station in Lugano (all down hill). The location was perfect as it was walking distance to everything you needed including the lake.

The windows in the room I was in can't really be used as there are no screens and many birds just outside the window.

it’s centrally located and close to the train station cogwheel. The bathroom was beautiful with a large bathtub and separate shower. The staff was helpful and kind.

I think it’s overpriced but Lugano is expensive. Breakfast was not generous and not included in room when booking through third party.

It's a three-star hotel, but in fact it meets four-star-standard. You enter by the bistro/shop with a great ambiance. That's the heart of the hotel, there are only a few rooms on the upper floors. Excellent breakfast except Xmas-day when the the kitchen of the bistro was closed. So there were no omelets that day and no eggs. The Staff is very friendly in a informal way.

Hotel was wonderful . Loved the location and the cafe , restaurant beneath the accommodation was fabulous . Room whilst small was clean and very comfortable . Bathroom was great spacious and a very good shower ! This hotel is a little gem in beautiful Lugano

It would have been good to know in advance that there was an easier way to get yo hotel by taking the funicular

Perfect location on a square at the base of the funicular. Clean rooms and huge bathroom!

Our rooms face an interior courtyard and noise did bounce around in the evenings. Skip the hotel buffet breakfast and instead get what you actually want in the charming courtyard market cafe. The market in tbe hotel is amazing!
