Hotel Puerta del Mar

The location is superb; a stone’s throw from the Balcony de Europe, a stone’s throw from the Plaza Espana, right in the heart of the old town. Yet it was also very quiet. The roof terrace is beautiful and much bigger than it looks from the photos. There were plenty of sun beds, parasols, and table sets available all set on a lovely terrace with lots of plants. The pool was a perfect temperature, great for cooling off. The ‘superior’ room that we had was very tastefully decorated (clearly recently), with good quality furniture and fixings. And it was great to have a fridge. The breakfast room is also very tastefully decorated.

The reception staff were a bit hit and miss. Some were friendly and efficient, one or two not quite as efficient (however, they were never rude).

Great central location and everything within easy reach. Excellent hot shower and nice airy corridors with a great roof terrace. There is a large square behind the hotel which has an underground car park that is within easy walking distance.

The rubber seals on the windows would benefit from being a little thicker to help reduce the noise from the street below but this really is a minor issue. It would also be beneficial if a notice was installed on the roof terrace telling guests that if they wish to listen to their own media then they should use headphones. It would also help if they were told this when checking in because there's always that one person, isn't there?

Firstly the manager greeted us and was genuinely happy to help. We asked if we could leave our luggage early as we were moving from another hotel and needed to check out. He was so helpful and immediately took our luggage, telling us he’d make every effort to get our room ready early - which he did. The place is absolutely spotless and modern yet retains its quaint feel. I was dubious about its location as it was in the centre of town and down a side street but I needn’t have worried at all. It’s totallysafe. The rooftop terrace is stunning, different split level areas with sun loungers and shaded tables, 3 small pools and also bathroom facilities. The beds in the hotel were the comfiest I’ve had on a holiday in a long time with great quality linen. We were only there for 2 nights as a very last minute booking- I had become ill with a stomach bug on the day before our flight home and had to rearrange our flight so we booked this place as it was only meters away from where we were staying. I only wish we’d stayed there from the outset!! The icing on the cake was when the manager booked us an airport transfer for 4am… He then also put the coffee machine on for us so we could get a drink before we left!! So kind …

Nothing not to like. This will be our first choice for when we return to Nerja.

I cannot really think of anything that would be missing in this hotel. Excellent location - 20 meters to the main walking street with restaurants. Still surprisingly quiet, there was only some occasional noise from the corridor. Even the church bell and the festival at the main square did not bother us. The pool area on the hotel roof was really nice bonus with nice view over the main square. Very friendly and helpful personnel. Yes, and I have never been in this clean hotel in Spain. Beds were also comfortable which is not always the case in Spanish hotels.

The hotel might want to improve the breakfast just a little bit. Special meals not very well taken into account so you might want to bring your own if you are allergic or something.

We loved the location, the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the hotel in general down to the lovely lady that cleaned our room daily in room 105, 27th Oct to 30th Oct 2021. The breakfast in the morning was very varied and sufficient. The icing on the cake was the roof top terrace and pool for us, such a little bit of tranquil heaven, loved it. Shall definitely recommend and shall be returning.

Absolutely nothing!!!!!

Staff were excellent from the moment we arrived and this made a great start to our Holiday. The breakfast was very good and we didn't miss the fact there was no hot food available. The room was very clean and the only slight downside was we had no view from room 216. However there was a great view from the terrace which we too advantage from.

Nothing really. The view didn't exist from our bedroom window but that is just simply because the Hotel is built in the Town centre. The terrace made up for this with good views all around.

Location: quiet, very central, tucked up a side street just moments away from a square and the Balcon. Free parking on the street a few minutes’ walk away was fairly easy to find. Room: modern, immaculately clean, comfy bed, good simple-to-operate aircon, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge. Facilities: pleasant foyer with seating, small but adequate pool on the roof with sea views past the church, three rooftop terraces with tables and chairs, umbrellas and loungers. Breakfast: good quality and lots of choice - fresh fruit, fruit salad, yogurts (plain and flavoured), several cereals, hard boiled eggs, range of meats and cheeses, tomatoes, range of bread and pastries, hot drinks from machine (the coffee, both regular and decaff, was very good). Staff: very pleasant and helpful (I accidentally left my e-reader and they kept it on reception for collection).

Nothing, except one small thing: the power of the shower (good) was such that it caused the shower head to be pushed up in its fitting and spray everywhere!

The location of the hotel is fantastic. It is immaculately clean and the beds are comfortable. Having stayed in both the superior and standard rooms, I think it is worth paying extra for a superior room. Breakfast is good. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. We would especially like to thank Diana on reception who went to a lot of trouble to sort out a taxi for us when we were having difficulty in getting one for an early flight the next morning.

Lovely hotel in a perfect location! Right in the centre but no noise at all. Exceptionally clean and a very comfortable room. Staff were friendly and helpfully got us an iron when we asked, stored our luggage and organised a taxi. The breakfast was good, although there were no hot options there were a variety of cold meats, cheeses, bread, fruit and yogurts. There is a nice pool area on the terrace and the beach is just a few minutes stroll away. It is quite basic but definitely one of the nicer mid-range ones!

The room was lovely looking out onto to Plaza Espana we were staying week of the festival which is very busy and lots of music and noise. Once you closed your windows it was so quiet. Hotel was so central right beside the church in the main square. Breakfast was sufficient but don't expect a cooked buffet its a cold buffet meat cheese eggs fruit etc. We got a taxi for seven from the Hotel to Airport very good service. We totally enjoy our stay at the Hotel and when visiting Nerja again we shall be staying with them again. Lovey friendly reception staff and overall staff in dining area and cleaning overall a very enjoyable stay.
