Douro Palace Hotel Resort & SPA

It all started with the outstanding location of the Douro Palace Hotel & Spa, it's a 10 min (if that much) taxi ride from Aregos rail station, and it's calming inviting signature scent (which I wanted to get a bottle of HINT!, HINT!) then came our room with it's view of the Douro River, vineyards and pool, yet another piece of heaven all ours for the next couple days. Good size room, quite, very comfortable beds, clean, good vibe, our terrace was just supreme, bathroom good size, thou I must say I don't get those showers with a 1/2 door? I always felt like I didn't want to soak the floors so I found myself always sapping up the floors (not what I signed up for, could have just been me, who knows), also had a running bowl all night (rm 204, just didn't want to make a big deal of it). Staff is just exceptional, professional, extremely friendly, tentative, and just welcoming. We had a breakfast plans quite the daily spread (thou same spread daily) it was quite a tasty variety (would be nice if a tip was left for the server as the tables don't get cleaned by themselves PEOPLE! (could be just me). Had several dinners at the Resort also quite a tasty (thou limited) menu, I even had the same meal twice whilst there and enjoyed it like it was the first time tasting it. Grounds are just what the soul needs, we walked about to the vineyards then to see the baby goats, and parent's Romeo and Juliet. The immediate pool area speaks for itself with it's views, I/we couldn't help feeling like I/we were constantly sliding off the edge of the earth whilst laying on the loungers as they're on a slant (I do understand it extends to the view) but you're just sliding off the lounges even with towels as a liner. Overall it was just an absolutely Great destination for us all. Very thing about the Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa what what we didn't know we needed.

Breakfast was exceptional. Probably the best quality and selection we have come across in our travels. The location (when you can find it) is excellent with superb views over the River Douro. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk away from the railaway station where the trains will take you to Porto or the other direction along the river.

The hotel was, for us, extremely difficult to find. We had set our GPS to Baiao but discover that Baiao is more like an area rather than a place. Once we arrived in Baiao it took us a long time to find the hotel. Perhaps Booking.com should give a better description of how to find the hotel. Whilst the quality of our evening meal was good (but pricy) we found the waiter over-bearing/obsequious. The following day we chose to eat out at Regua for this reason.

The hotel is amazing The views are breathtaking, you basically wake up and see Douro valley right from your bed. They have Chefs restaurant in the hotel. Food there is very delicious, starters, main dishes and deserts. We tried a lot there and every dish was great. Also hotel has its own farm with various herbs, fruits and vegetables, that are used then in the restaurant. They also have very clean and relaxing SPA, which is free for hotel guests.

Public areas have exceptionally amazing views, but windows there need a bit more love

This place is gorgeous and really peaceful. It is easy to get here from Porto on the train if you don’t have a car. The breakfast is brilliant and the food in the restaurant is very fresh and good. The spa is great and I really enjoyed my treatments. I had a river facing room and it was just stunning and a blissful place to switch off for a few days. There is a nice little farm with animals and vineyard on the property.

I’m sorry to say but I found the staff to not be particularly helpful or friendly and it felt a bit cost- focused. I was annoyed to have booked a spa slot in advance of my stay and the second I arrived in my room to receive a call to say it wasn’t possible (in a rather rude way). Maybe a better booking system and communicating this before you arrive rather than as soon as you arrive in the room to relax with the beautiful view would make it a more pleasant welcome…

Well appointed hotel in lovely gardens and vineyards Breakfast was very good indeed with a wide choice. The view from our window was beautiful and the room was spacious .

A bit remote and situated at the end of some very twisty roads. Although we were encouraged to drink bottled water rather than tap water we were given only one bottle and told we could not have another one.

The breakfast was fine, but I expected more selection of eggs (only scrambled eggs), and there are no vegetables at all, even not one tomato. I expected more from 4-star hotel -The inner pool is not hot enough, no jacuzzi, and you have to wear swimming cup for both man and woman, therefore is not useful at all

Amazing comfortable room with glass wall and stunning views over the Douro Valley! Delicious breakfast and great food at the restaurant. Open Swimming pool with beautiful views. Peaceful & relaxing indoors swimming pool with saunas. You can also make beautiful walks in the hotel vineyards or walk / drive down to the train station for some scenic train trip along the river. Overall it was an amazing experience you want to repeat again!

The hotel is contemporary, well designed and has great facilities. The outdoor pool, bar and snack area was lovely with great views and plenty of seats for all to enjoy. A special mention to the pool guy who was very helpful and enthusiastic. We particularly enjoyed the labyrinth that was our hotel, so many different facets; the indoor pool, the spa, the bar, the games room, the vineyard, the farm, the gardens - it just went on which made it great to unwind and take our time to explore. The view from our room (river view/ground floor) and balcony was simply breathtaking, like a painting! Would highly recommend this place.

The restaurant was very dark (brown walls!) and had almost no natural light, a shame as there was this spectacular view right outside but no windows to make the most of it. The service was incredibly slow, staff were not attentive or warm. We opted to have room service thereafter for the remainder of our stay. This was the only let down.

Beautiful hotel set in the gorgeous Douro River Valley. Luxurious room, fabulous restaurant, the grounds are gorgeous.

Don't use GPS to reach this hotel!! It will take you the "fastest" route, through tiny towns on cobblestone streets. The staff at the hotel said it happens to everyone. My question, if they know this, please prepare & attach clear, specific directions to our reservation confirmation! These tiny roads are dangerous to navigate.

The staff surprised us with cake and a bottle of wine on our arrival (it was my husband's bday). Beautiful hotel, spectacular views, great food, friendly staff, a chef's garden, vineyard and relaxing pools and spa. We enjoyed our time relaxing. What a wonderful treat after walking the camino portugese. The sommelier, Ferminio, was so friendly and kind. We will recommend to friends and family.
