Douro Royal Valley Hotel & Spa

The hotel is beautiful, rooms are large and clean. The pool is very nice. The view from room and pool is simply gorgeous. Breakfast was very good with good veriety. The on site parking is helpful. The Spa was great. Staff was nice and helpful. The location is both good and bad, depending on your visit purpose. If only for spa and relaxtion than it is great. If to do sightseeing than it is a bit far from main cities like Pinhao and others. We are dinner at the hotel one evening, it was nice but not great.

Hotel maintanance can be improved - water in toilet goes down slowly, bathroom door was wet and not in good shape. Breakfast - no fresh vegetables at all, strange. I would think a 5 star hotel would offer baked things I can order like omelette. Not available. Staff are nice and helpful but no e of them were smiling. Seems strange.

This hotel was wonderful and we had a lovely time staying there. The spa was great and we made the most of the steam/sauna rooms as well as the outdoor pool. The view from the room was incredible and our room was directly facing the river. The bed was so comfortable and we slept extremely well. Room service was also great and the staff were very attentive and made sure we had an amazing experience.

We expected slightly more from the breakfast buffet. The prices of the additional spa treatments were very high.

The location is beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The aircondition was not working in the room. All efforts were made by the staff to get it sorted and in the end we were upgraded to a suit. Nuno was very helpfull and did his best to make our stay pleasant. Amazing views on the 6th floor rooms, with a small private garden. The spa experience was great. Breakfast layout was great with good selection of food. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant as well but felt it was bit expensive.

One must change lifts moving to and from locations in the hotel/.

All the rooms are Douro river facing. Waking every morning to a beautiful view and chirping birds is great. The massage treatment was perfect at the Spa.

They made us buy a swimming cap for visiting the jacuzzi for 10 minutes. Swimming pool i can understand but jacuzzi! come on guys? The outdoor pool was not heated. Hence not a single person was enjoying it. I can understand the logic behind it (like being environmentally friendly an all) but you should specify it in your listed facilities on booking.com. That infinity pool was the number one reason I booked the accommodation. Shame I couldn't use it!

We love this hotel - we love the view, love the property, love the walls around, love the location near the station, love how accessible it is to Monsterio station as well. This time around we discovered not only the infinity pool but the spa area, the sauna, the steam room and the relaxation room. Although we were sad the salads weren’t in season due to the time of year, we loved the alternate restaurant recommendations. As always, a brilliant calm and peaceful stay.

A 5* hotel that deserved the title! Beautiful hotel, service, food and facilities. A really fantastic stay!! The view outside the hotel room was really second to none. Breathtaking!

Hotel indoor pool required swim caps however we were not offered any, even to pay for. Outside was a little too cold due to the time of year. Other than that small detail. Absolutely no complaints. A really wonderful stay.

Great views from room and pool overlooking the river. Big spacious room. Lovely quiet location. Beautiful pool plenty of deck chairs on the grassed area. Friendly staff who let us use the facilities prior to check in as we arrived at 11. Car park on site

Could use some maintenance- painting and minor repairs in hallways. Food in the restaurant was nice however we waited a long time for our meals. A little under staffed as only one staff member working at the bar however he was great.

Staff was really amazing, super kind, helpful, always smiling. Also true for the room service. Really comfy bed! The view of the bedroom straight on the Douro was breathtaking, and from the outside pool... WAW! Really enjoyed the peace of the place :))))

not really soundproof bedrooms (could hear sounds from the corridor and people talking in the other rooms). Spa treatments were not as good as you could expect from a place like that (could feel nails during massage almost scratching the skin, masseuse breathing and coughing lightly in your face, unequal attention to the gesture so not really relaxing, face scrub really too hard). The restaurant was good but nothing exceptional. From the outside, the building is just a cube of concrete like a punch in the face in the middle of this breathtaking nature but you rapidly forget while you enjoy the tranquility and the view from inside, the pool and your balcony!

Good facilities and well trained staff. Plenty of options for those that want to take advantage of the Spa facilities. They have a very decent bar. Great restaurant, resonably priced for the food it serves which is very nice, but the hotel also offers many other options for those who want to just have a smaller and nice meal. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

For some, it may be a little hard to reach. The only practical option is to drive. If the goal is to visit the Douro valley and its many vineywards and wineries there are options which will offer you a better "base" to work from.

The infinity pool and its location overlooking the Douro river is the main attraction of the hotel. All the rooms are river facing with balconies and the views are exceptional. Breakfast was very good as was the restaurant albeit typical 5 star prices.

A wider selection of food options outside of the main restaurant would have been welcomed. Bar and room service menu was quite basic for a 5 star hotel
