The Lake Motel was a clean, tidy and quaint place to stay. The rooms were set up with Retro Vibes... and it was fun to stay in a 'mini 60's Retro Museum' for a couple of nights. The Hosts were welcoming and helpful and we had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. The Motel was a little way away from the town centre, but it was nice to have the quiet and be away from the hustle and bustle of Taupo township. Location wise, it was close to the Debrett's Hot Pools. Also a wonderful and economical trip down memory lane. A very enjoyable stay.

Loved that this was a dog friendly motel that was happy for us to check in late as we required dog friendly accommodation at late notice. The interior is super funky and we appreciate staying in more unique places. Very close to town and room is well appointed and had everything we needed for a short stay.

It is a bit noisy with road traffic but that is to be expected in Taupo. The bathroom is very small and simple but that's not an issue for a short term stay.

Very clean. Was nice to have proper big pump hand soap & shower gel dispensers and not lots of little bottles & a bar of soap. I was expecting a very unfashioned “retro” room, but instead found a tasteful retro-finished room which ticked all the boxes that a motel stay should. i didn’t have my dog during this stay, however it would be a perfect stay with a dog since it had a back door off the bathroom.

It was very light at dawn when sleeping in the bed in the lounge, and I had to put a blanket over the wooden shutters. This didn’t effect my stay as I needed to be up early anyway!

Fantastic location minutes from the lake. Great to walk down in the morning to the Coffee Bean on the lakefront to secure the daily caffeine 'fix'. Loved the retro ambience of unit, which was also very clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money.

The only negative was the noisy fridge at night... but we were always too tired for it to bother us!

The room was great. The location was good. Clean and tidy. The theme was great with cool furniture. Like the little treats left but there was only 2 when there was 3 of us checked in. Fabulous outdoor area, even tho we didn't use it because of the weather.

No milk was given. We took milk but thought we may get some as part of the room. Didn't ask tho. Not enough power cords for all the available items in the room. i.e TV, lamps, DVD player, electric blankets. Let alone trying to charge your phones as well.

Great location, so close to the lake. Cool retro touches with lots of funky artwork and cool retro furniture. Comfy large bed and also pet-friendly, which we loved so we could bring out dog. Kitchenette was handy.

Could have used a second fan as the unit got quite warm during the day and there no windows to open in the lounge. We were reluctant to leave the front door wide open for airflow as we were with our dog.

Very clean. The set-up of our room was great for our family - a bedroom with a queen bed plus two twins in the main area for our teens. Nice kitchenette. Great backyard area. Off the beaten path, so it was nice and quiet. The owner was proactively helpful, offering suggestions of things to do and places to eat.

Beds need updating, particularly one of the twin beds which was terribly soft. The two lounge chairs were broken and wobbly.

Room was tidy and clean and comfortable. Helpful host and handy location to town.

Our shower was blocked so only I was able to take a shower before bed. Given it was late a night when we returned from our evening out and we left early to meet with a shuttle to start the Tongariro crossing we were unable to relay the issue at the time.

Fantastic boutique motel, clean and homely feel to units with nice little touches here and there (e.g. toiletries, cleaning products, the Crunchie bar), awesome location and best of all, allowed us to holiday with our dog too! Loved it was ok for dogs to do their biz in the back yard, especially handy late at night. Also, easy enough to walk to the lake and back for some sight seeing and four legged exercise.

As baby-boomers, we loved our 1950s/60s room: it took us back to our childhood! We enjoyed the sense that we were living in someone’s home rather than a motel, amongst all their carefully chosen furnishings. The room was also very quiet and comfortable, with a green and pleasant garden at the back.
