171. Urban Design Hotel

Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, I moved from the UK to the Netherlands in January and needed a temporary place to stay while I searched for a permanent apartment. I had never been to Rotterdam before and I do not speak Dutch, so I needed some help to navigate things. Urban Design Hotel ended up being the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and value, and was just what I needed during a stressful period. I ended up extending my stay, staying for nearly 5 WEEKS, and would have stayed longer if I needed more time to find a place. Below are a few of the reasons why I enjoyed my stay, and why you should strongly consider it: Staff/Service: First and foremost, the manager Denni went above and beyond! He was friendly, approachable, attentive, and very helpful. One example - when it began snowing outside, even though I did not need them, he offered more blankets and a heater to make sure I was comfortable. Honestly, I have to say thank you to he and the entire staff for making my arrival in the Netherlands as easy as possible. It was a hectic time and their care made all the difference. I am sure it might have been different somewhere else. Cleanliness/Amenities: To be clear, this is a boutique, mostly self-service hotel, so you should not expect all the major luxuries of a large hotel (restaurant, swimming pool, etc.). That said, it is VERY clean, comfortable and modern, making it a great option (especially for solo travelers and couples). Rooms are a good size, professionally cleaned everyday, stocked with fresh towels/soaps, and it was always nice coming back to a fresh bed after a day of exploring. The lobby is a cozy "living room" with a great espresso machine and comfy couches. When it was raining/snowing outside, this was a great place to work and relax. Location: The hotel is very central, only about a 15-minute walk from Centraal station and has many restaurants and small parks nearby.

The hotel is central. Checking in and out were simple and straightforward. The room was smallish, but it had everything I needed. The bed, linen, and pillows were super comfortable. The room was spotless and was made up daily. The coffee/tea room is a very nice touch. The location is excellent, 3 minutes walk to the metro so easy to reach any part of Rotterdam. Perfect for a week-long business trip.

The beam in the bathroom is an issue. After banging my head several times, I learned to remember it!! I would recommend adding a few reflective strips or some colour to help avoid accidents.

This is probably the most complimentary review I've ever left, but the guys totally deserve it. Thank you for a wonderful place to live and work and for your hospitality. I would like to admit the following: Price/quality ratio Great location (groceries, restaurant of any kind, transportation, city center - everything is nearby) Daily room cleaning (even though we haven't asked to) AC in the room Comfortable living room with kitchen zone and free coffee / microwave wwen / drinking water Free wifi Smooth check in and check out process, possibility for late check in Friendly and responsive administration

I even can't imagine any cons of the hotel :)

We stayed approximately 1week in the special double room. Came to Rotterdam to drop off/set up our kiddo at University, so we wanted to stay close proximity to her apartment. The special double was ample roomy, bed was comfy, toiletries and towels plenty. Our host was extremely helpful, pleasant and came to our rescue when we needed a bike pump asap. Tho there's no breakfast at the hotel, there are bakeries, cafés and restaurants within a minute walk. Also the "living room" common area has wonderful coffee, basic amenities and a microwave. It suited our needs, and was in a good location. Highly recommend this hotel.

I liked the concept of an old private house with a typical Dutch style on the outside that has been renovated for a small hotel, with a new concept of privacy, but respecting all the comforts and giving small different experiences. I admired the concept of the digital key for autonomous entry and check in. The classic urban style is very efficient for the idea of the structure. I highly recommend the hotel for a stay in Rotterdam, because of the great location and the easy access from the central station and the movement in the central area of the city. Great idea of the living room for a morning coffee or tea after returning from a sightseeing day.

The location is excellent with easy access and lots of transportation. The hotel was comfortable, there was no noise from the hallways and the bed was comfortable. In order to travel for work it was excellent.

The AC was not working and we had to use an electric heater that took a lot to heat up the room. There was a wooden support in the middle of the bathroom which was not expected. There was a need to be cautious when going to the toilet to not hit the head in the wooden support.

I have stayed at Urban Design Hotel for 2 weeks and I had a very comfortable stay. The hotel is situated in a very convenient and central location on Nieuwe Binnenweg street which is very central, trendy street with nice bakeries, restaurants around. The rooms are so clean and furnished modernly. The self check-in process is very straightforward. In the area you check in, you can sit and enjoy free coffee and tea, you can also chill on the couch, work on the table. Hotel Manager Denni is a very helpful and friendly person.

Absolutely amazing experience. Extremely clean hotel with really easy access to your room. Free coffee and self check in and out made everything even easier. I lost my keycard very late night and was worried there is no staff to give me access but they were very attentive on the help button and let me in straight away. The staff also communicated with me well about my check in time when my flight was delayed meaning I arrived at 3 am. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The AC also worked really well especially during record breaking heatwaves. The room comes with a hairdryer and a kettle and good lighting. Really happy and will definitely return when i visit Rotterdam again.

You have to pay €100 euros deposit which you will get back, but this seems like a pretty excessive price for a budget hotel.

Unique, comfortable, reasonably priced, quiet, friendly - our favorite location during our journey. Family room was a great way for the 6 of us to gather in the mornings or to relax in the evenings while having separate sleep spaces for us to pair off and private bathrooms for 2 to share was super nice compared to all 6 of us sharing one or two bathrooms at other locations

it was all great! Nothing to say negatively for this hotel. We would return in an instant :-) Thank you to the host for a great stay.

I arrived rather early and was expecting to drop my bag off and go wait in a coffee shop, but i was greeted by a really nice nice bunch. The cleaners let me in and gave me a coffee and I sat in the comfortable “kitchen” doing some work and had a great conversation with a girl that was working there, 3 hrs flew by and my room was ready. The bed was amazing. Best sleep I had in my 13 days in Holland (9 different hotels). I spoke to the owner Danny when I was checking out and he told me about the mattress and how much they cost. Money well spent. Doesn’t get much better for a 3 star, it was the cheapest of the 9 hotels I stayed in and also the best so I’d have no problems recommending this place to stay. Shower was also very good

Not much, it was better than I expected it to be. Of I had to be picky I’d say the bed in my room fits in snug so the walls at each side so you need to get in and out of bed from the bottom. But I picked a smaller room and they have used the space very well.
