Hotel María Jose

Been to Merida a couple times, first time with my wife. She loved the hotel / location and walkability.

Finally! A hotel that exceeded my expectations. I stayed in 2 other hotels in the area prior to staying here and was disappointed. This hotel made the remainder of my stay a great one! Very clean, friendly & welcoming staff, huge pool that was very clean and enjoyable to swim during in these hot days. The breakfast is worth it and fulfilling. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. Excellent A/C, hotel lobby & breakfast dining room are always air conditioned. Great wifi! I am so happy I found this hotel and I will for sure stay here again when I return!

No water dispensers on property :/ but housekeeping does leave 2 bottles of water in your room daily but its not enough water for the day. Water dispensers instead of giving out the bottles of water would make this hotel golden!!!

The staff is extremely friendly down to every individual who cleaned maintained and served.It is within short walking distance of the Centro and several major parks and neighbourhoods.MEL is around the corner. The room although very simple has nice sheets and towels changed every day and is extremely clean as are the corridors and reception.Wifi in most rooms is excellent. The pool area was very pleasant with a mix of sun and shade all day and towels available.

We enjoyed the service staff in the dining room and all were very friendly. However the coffee was weak and sometimes only mildly warm.The juice was some kind of watered down sweetened liquid that was not real juice but we did find breakfast included a real bonus. A bar fridge in the room would be a nice addition.

Loved the hotel and location. The room was not what I was expecting and Staff was extremely helpful and had given us an upgrade. Now it had far exceeded our expectations. Very clean room and hotel. The breakfast included with your room was exceptional. Not your typical continental, although that could have been your choice out of 9 of Mexican and American breakfasts which included coffee or tea and juice. The location was within walking distance to everything in Centro. Was an absolute great 5 day stay in Merida.

I can not think of anything. It was great! :D

The hotel is clean, the rooms are small yet confortable. Hotel staff is very nice and accommodated. I stayed only one night but in general my stay was a good experience.

What I’m saying here is more and advice for the owners. They should change the double beds they have now with Yucatán measurements for more standard international size. My husband’s high is only 5’9” and he didn’t fit in the bed, he had his feet way out and was really uncomfortable also because the wide of the bed is too narrow. I saw really tall people in the hotel and I wonder how was their sleeping, and if they would recommend the hotel to their friends.

The rooms were really clean and nicely decorated. The maid was phenomenal. She put a smile on our faces every night (see pictures below) - priceless! The location is great! Despite some communication difficulties, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Out of a total of 6 paid breakfasts, we used only one and even then there was a complication because they wanted me to pay for it. But it's quite awkward because practically no one in this hotel speaks English (except for one young receptionist). It would be recommended that at least the reception staff speak some basic English. Certain rooms (like ours) have practically no light (because of the view of the staircase).

Excellent location, short walking distance to the center and many good restaurants. The pool area was quiet and nice for a bit of rest during the hottest hours of the afternoon. Wifi was reliable. The staff was very friendly. It was reasonably quiet at night, though our room had some air-conditioning units/vents nearby so sleeping with an open window was loud. Secure gated parking.

Small things that could be better: The bed was a bit hard and a fridge in the room would have been great. Some of the rooms only have windows to corridors (not our case but be aware of this when booking). There's not much space for luggage/clothes in the room.

It may not have the edge on some of the more instagrammable hotels in Centro for photo ops, but this gem of a hotel has big, very clean , rooms with good wifi & smart TV, A very good breakfast. Very helpful, friendly & genuine staff ( maintenance man, receptionists, cleaning staff) Absolutely wonderful staff! The clean pool is bigger than most in centro, and actually gets sun for most of the afternoon.

I didn’t like that I only stayed 4 nights. I have stayed in 5 different boutique hotels in Centro. This one I am returning to.

The staff let me check in 3 hours early which was just amazing! The pool was great and had really good opening hours. I didn’t have breakfast as I was leaving early but the breakfast was really reasonable. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Shower was hot which is not always the case in Mexico and the air con was fab. For £30 a night it was a great deal.

The room had quite a strong smell of damp which did go away once the air con was on for a bit but did keep coming back.

This is a charming hotel just blocks from the main plaza. It is very clean and comfortable. The room had excellent air conditioning and a great shower. The wi-fi was as good as home. Beautiful and well-maintained pool area. Breakfast was included with the room and it is a great way to start the day. The front desk clerks, the cleaning staff, waiters, just about everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. The Maria-Jose is a gem. I will be back!

Everything met my expectations and then some.
