The location is fantastic... You can walk practically everywhere from the hotels day or night and it is safe location! Specially if you are traveling as a woman alone... Loved the location and the staff is kind and friendly.

The Wi-Fi is absent... NOT reliable. I had to go downstairs to be able to use the restaurant wifi... The minute you go upstairs to your room it won't work anymore. Don't count on good connection.

The staff is incredible with one notable exception. When I went to check in, the receptionist stated that they were fully booked even though I showed her my confirmation number. However, when I told her that I was going to check the hotel across the street, miraculously (probably due to the help of Carlos) she found that there was a room available.

Linda, the receptionist referred to above was rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. If it had not been for Carlos, we would have stayed elsewhere.

I loved my stay at Casa Del Balam! The hotel was clean, comfortable and incredible beautiful. The staff were very helpful and attentive, and it was a great place to stay. It was amazing to have a pool in the city centre too.

The WiFi is definitely quite slow, but still usable. The only feature I would not recommend is the day tour I booked through the hotel - although my guide was incredibly kind, but I felt that there were cheaper and more informative options available online.

We found the room very spacious and clean. We also liked that the staff was helpful, for example, we appreciated the call on the last day in advance of our check-out, to ask us whether we wanted to book a taxi to the airport in advance. The water in the shower of our room was very warm, which was a positive. The room had air conditioning, which was greatly appreciated. We also liked the location, as it was easy for us to walk around, and tours could be organised at the hotel doorstep. The cleaning staff was attentive and picked up a lost earring and neatly put it in a visible place - this was very much appreciated.

We found the wifi was a bit weak and there was no safe in the room. We also found the toilet flush could be stronger, and that the number of towels was a bit inconsistent (on the first day, there was 3, on the second, 2, but from the third day onwards, there were 4). We did not have glasses to put our toothbrushes in, and asked the lady at the reception, and were given plastic goblets. It would be good if such glasses for toothbrushes could be provided in rooms in the future.

Casa del Balam is a charming colonial style hotel in the old city center that was converted from a private residence to a hotel in the 1970s. It retains the original interior courtyard and garden patio. The rooms are clean and comfortable as are the in suite bathrooms. (Speaking of, there was never any shortage of hot water!) You can have your meals in the courtyard, lounge around the shady pool or have a drink in the restaurant/bar. The best way to describe the hotel is a place where you return to rest and recharge. And what I would rank as the hotel's best feature is their staff: Polite, helpful, cheerful and attentive! PS: If you go by the hotel, say hello to Mona, the sweet little hotel kitty!

We have no complaints as we got exactly what we expected, a quaint and charming older hotel. You will not find big screen TVs, computer desks or iPod docks in the rooms. If you want to be entertained, get out into the city, the local markets and the nearby Mayan ruins. If you want a relaxing, clean and welcoming place to come home to at the end of the day, then this is it.

Casa del Balam has been part of Merida’s Downtown for many years and in spite of the time it is well kept. We stayed 8 nights and were very happy with the location and the service in the front desk as well as the chambermaid. We asked for a quiet room,more hangers, pillows, etc. Everything was provided with efficiency and a smile…. Used their cafeteria a couple of times for breakfast and the food and service was very good but stopped going because we did not like their coffee …sort of weak and with some cinnamon flavor. But not to worry, you are in downtown and the offer of cafeterias with amazing breakfast fares and gourmet Mexican coffees abound. At night the restaurant turns into more or less a pizza and pasta place.

We think a kettle in the rooms would be ideal as well as a microwave. But we did without it with hardly any complaints. We used their “spa services” once but were a bit disappointed with the quality of the massage

The hotel is located just off the zocolo, so it's an easy walk to restaurants and shopping. Rodolfo, the concierge, helped us with bags, gave advice, and was exceptionally professional and helpful. Ali, our housekeeper, was very friendly and made us feel like we were on a cruise ship. The room was comfortable and spacious with a view of the gorgeous theater across the street.

This is no reflection on the hotel or staff, but the disadvantage of being so close to the zocolo is that the vendors in the centro are extremely aggressive. They zero in on tourists and get very pushy, and they are asking double or triple the usual price for everything. We had to take circuitous routes to and from our hotel to avoid some of the vendors, and it was exhausting. If you are a foreigner, beware of men who approach speaking very good English, will follow you for several blocks asking a ton of questions. They are trying to steer you toward certain businesses that charge exorbitant prices so they can get a kickback. So, we loved the hotel and staff, but if we go to Merida again, we'll stay in an area away from the zocolo.

We loved our stay here! The location was within walking distance to everything...It doesn't seem like much from the street but once you walk in - wow! The courtyard and pool are beautiful. Our room was simple yet tasteful; facing a side street and also the courtyard - just perfect. The staff was super friendly. We forgot our bag with electronics in the courtyard and they were attentive enough to know it was ours and returned it.

The covers on the beds are quite thin - like sheets. It would have been cozy to have something a bit heavier but we found it was typical of all our Mexican hotels. It didn't change our great experience here though! Would totally stay here again

Highly recommend this 5star delux hotel with fancy pool in center of Merida. The hotel is well preserved, grandeaus and charming, spacious, very safe, and well located. You immediately feel like you are part of Merida when staying here. The receptionist was really helpful and caring, attending to every request almost immediately. Rooms are spacious, very clean and just like on the pictures, we were so happy to have chosen this hotel and will definitely stay again soon! Superb travel agency just nextby and shirts shop not to miss, they have carefully selected local design pieces. Affordable hotel that exceeded our expectations in all respects.

Really nice Decor Hotel in the Center. Walking distance from everywhere. Lots of shop, restaurants by the plaza next to it. We suggest to book a tour by the shop next to the hotel. Sergio was fantastic and suggested us the best option to visit the around Area ( Cenote, Uxmal etc).

We left the Hotel at 6am and we couldn't have a shower as the water was very cold. ( probably the keep the boiler off until a certain time. Rather than this everything was perfect.
