Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shijo

Loved that this property provided an onsen as well as a buffet style breakfast (for an additional fee). The staff were excellent and so helpful! They gave us all the information we needed to make the most of our stay. Our room was a bit smaller but still very clean and comfortable. It was so nice to be able to use the tv program to know the onsen capacity before going down to use it. The location was also great, allowing us to easily navigate to the transit system. The restaurant options around the establishment were also really delicious. Overall, it was a lovely hotel experience!

It`s a very nice hotel, located in the center of Kyoto, next to one of the main roads leading to the main attractions of the city. There is plenty of buses which will take you to every destination. We usually walk everywhere, so it was 25 min. to Pontocho street in Gion, around 45 min to Higashiyama district. The breakfast was good but mainly with Japanese options. The only disappointment for us was location of our family room, which was on the ground floor/street level. Unfortunatelly all 4 bed rooms were on that floor, so there was no possibility to change it. Other than that the room was beautifully designed with very comfy beds and nice bathroom.

This hotel has lovely staff who are helpful and it was the first 'public bath' I tried in Japan. The rooms are clean and the bed was really comfortable. There are nearby eateries, one in particular did great sushi and gyoza. I also tried the Dojo Ninja experience which is a 5 minute walk away and a really interesting experience. They also provide a service that you can have your bags sent to the next hotel for relatively cheaply which I found really helpful as it meant avoiding dragging cases on and off trains.

The location was near buses and the train so it was accessible but I had stayed the previous night in the Gion area which has a lot of interesting sites within walking distance. This is not a negative against Mitsui but just something to be aware of. Also the buffet breakfast was cold. I stayed at the Mitsui Garden Premier Hotel in Tokyo and the breakfast there was outstanding so it was tough to compare with the limited offering at the Mitsui Kyoto.

I stayed here for 3 nights and the space was comfortable, very clean and the room had everything you could need, including a phone charging adaptor in the room. The hotel itself is lovely and I enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was more Japanese style, did try some dishes and enjoyed them, but there was also toast, eggs, cereal, yogurt etc. The hotel is very close to family mart and cute little restaurants in the area and an ATM just 1min walk away, very very handy. Staff were amazing, very responsive, friendly and always ready to help you. I def recommend this hotel.

There was nothing I didn't like, only wish there was some seating in the smoking room which is just a personal preference.

room a little small the "large public bath" was not large and was often crowded - they could have made it larger could have had a bit more shelves and drawer space for clothes no body scrubs for public bath i stayed for 9 nights - loved the breakfast but some days did not want it - wished hotel had option to not have the breakfast everyday of my stay

We loved everything about the hotel. Nice and modern room. Good location, close to supermarkets and easy to reach main attractions, especially by car.

We didn’t understand the hotel parking policy. We came by car we they recommended the public parking in front of the hotel. The hotel has own parking but don’t offer 24h parking even though we booked the room for 4 days. Practically the hotel parking was available only from 3 pm to noon next day. Luckily there is a coin parking right in front, even slightly cheaper.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the location of the hotel is convenient to the train, bus, and rail systems. There are also convenient stores close by if you need to pick up a few things. Thank you for the complimentary water each day!

Overall, everything was great; however, just a few suggestions. Please check the washer/dryer. The dryer didn't work too well. I would have liked to use the onsen, but I did not since you do not allow tattoos. Please reconsider your policy.

A short ride from Kyoto station. It’s 30 seconds walk from the nearest bus stop. Reasonable coin laundry is available (around 300-500 yen for wash and dry) Clean and modern When we picked up our luggages which were forwarded (A great service, by the way!) from their sister hotel nearby Kyoto station, we got invited to use their lounge. This proved to be so helpful as our son got unwell shortly before that and he was able to rest in a quiet location. Thank you very much.

I had a room with four beds in so it was pretty tight in space. However, I much preferred that to the other “family”rooms Japanese hotels tend to offer where the kids are expected to sleep with parents in a single or a double bed.

Location was excellent n close to subway station; strongly recommend the breakfast as many local dishes as well as western food; great public bathing facilities and can check crowdedness on the screen in room and room size was reasonable.

Only two washing machines for the entire hotel and during peak time, it is almost impossible to use it unless you go at odd hours; asked staff about making a reservation for taxi to Kyoto station and staff said peak season not possible to book taxi, so I had to go out early on the day of check out and hail a taxi (it was in the morning so not too hard) but still...

Mitsui is a boutique hotel with nice rooms. The rooms are small but spacious. The staff was very helpful throughout our stay and speak very good English. All kinds of amenities are provided in the room which was very helpful. Each room has a separate AC Unit which was very helpful as weather in Kyoto was very warm during our stay.

The hotel is located in a side street and is a bit of a walk from the main sightseeing. Though we ere there only for 1 night we found limited eating options for breakfast around the hotel.
