Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto-Shijokarasuma

The hotel is very centrally located in Kyoto and has a slightly classical Japanese touch. The first impression was great and continued to be so. The staff spoke very good English and were extremely helpful and friendly. I unfortunately fell ill on my trip and the receptionist was absolutely lovely and helpful. He called doctors, got me an appointment and printed out a guide with Japanese terms that helped me a lot when I went to the doctor. The room and the whole hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff in charge of breakfast were extremely friendly and very caring. I would stay here again at any time :)

Very kind, helpful staff, very clean rooms, and nice location. Breakfast was excellent and the rooms had many amenities.

The room service policy was a little annoying, as while rooms understandably needed to be cleaned every three days, room service would only do that if a magnet was placed on the door before 12pm that day. If you failed to do that, they would tape a note to your door instructing you to place the magnet on the door. It would be easier, in my opinion, if room service would clean the room every three days even if the magnet was not on the door, since it is a mandatory cleaning. This is simply a minor complaint, and overall the hotel greatly exceeded my expectations

The breakfast was the highlight with a mix of Japanese and western dishes that change every day. The service lady at the breakfast area was really cheerful and I highly appreciate the friendliness with my child. The free origami to keep my kid entertained was very thoughtful. Rooms were clean with one of the rooms having a big bathtub. Great location with the nearest bus stop to the popular tourist locations only 4 mins walk away. All the service and cleaning staff were really cheerful.

Nothing really that I didn't like. However, it so happened that the inside of the microwave wasn't clean and I had to take tissues from my room to clean food stains courtesy of the previous user. Maybe the hotel could set up a notice requesting guests to clean up after they use it.

Great room size for a couple, very near the subway exit, lots of food places and underground malls around to stay away from the heat and rain. Ma***o-san was very responsive to our need and very apologetic about the dirty cup situation. O**gi-san was really helpful when we checked out and wanted to ship our luggage to Osaka. The property name changed and he was helpful confirming the shipping details for us.

When we checked in and was looking to drink some water in our room, we saw the cups were dirty with green tea residues from previous use. The laundry area is smaller and only has two machines that are best used for small laundry loads.

Great location, walking distance for the city center, very close to Kyoto Station and Osaka was directly connected from the hotel's nearest station. The room was huge, clean and confortable. Breakfast was very nice, they offered an assortment of Japanese and western dishes. They change the breakfast menu every day. In general this hotel was very clean and nicely decorated.

I was surprised none of counter staff didn't speak fluent English. I never expect that anyone should be an English speaker in any non-English country, but I think the some of staff at the counter should have some English training to better communicate with foreign guests.

The hotel is extremely well located within walking distance of many of the major tourist sites in Kyoto, including Nishiki Market, Gion including Pontocho, the Shinkyogoku and Teramachi shopping arcades, and the Kawaramachi shopping, restaurant, and nightlife area. Moreover, it's right next to Shijo Station of the Kyoto subway Karasuma line (for easy access to Kyoto Station 2 stops away, the Tozai subway line 1 stop away, or the northern area of Kyoto) and Karasuma Station of the Hankyu line (for easy access to Arashiyama and Osaka). There are also many nearby bus stops. Another plus is that, despite its great location, it's in a pretty quiet area at night, so sleeping problems due to noise should be limited. The single room I stayed in is typical business hotel size, although it's not as small as some others I've slept in at other hotels. The hotel has many useful free amenities, including bath salts, and is clean. There are even free umbrellas for use on a rainy day. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The 11 o'clock check-out time was appreciated; many hotels have a 10 o'çlock one. I've also stayed at other Sotetsu hotels in Tokyo and have recommended the hotel chain to others as it is generally good value for the relatively inexpensive room rates.

Although it is not a major problem, the TV is in a relatively strange position with respect to the bed.

It was a nice and spacious room, recently decorated with waffle pj's to sleep in and access to any toiletries that you had forgotten like shampoo and toothpaste downstairs. They even had a sheet face mask for me! The staff were in general very nice, although perhaps not used to women travelling solo. It was an excellent base to explore the city, close to transport and to see the Imperial Palace and gardens in particular. The breakfast, because I ate a traditional Japanese one, was amazing, with a great range of freshly cooked food, rice, pickles, tempura one morning and traditional mackerel or fish, with black tea to drink. There was a Western breakfast, which I avoided.

Very close location to central shopping street and Shijo metro station, but no noise from the street. Different breakfast menu each day. Menu is provided for one week. Very polite and helpful stuff. The largest assortment of amenities provided by hotel I've ever seen (face mask, moisturizer, sunscreen, cleansing oil, hair mask). They provide bottled water to hotel guests. Washing machine and dryer are a very good option for a long trip.

AC was noisy and cooled the room only in the morning

Very friendly and welcoming staff, room was spacious compared to my stay at Sotetsu fresa inn Kanda Tokyo. Breakfast also had more options compared to Tokyo. Umbrellas supplied at lobby for rainy weather. Again good amenities, microwave, washing machine, ice machines and vending machines. Also option to rent free extra appliances if needed. I highly recommend this hotel chain as a mid-budget option for those solo travelers. Location was also good, 4 min from Shijo subway station and two stops to Kyoto main station

Window in the could not be opened. Maybe it was just my room as there was a notice, but I like to have a window open for breeze rather than air con.

I arrived and found the entrance is the style of traditional MACHIYA style with a long standing NARAZUKE pickles store at front, building itself is modern 10 storied one but maintain the texture of Kyoto. Breakfast is good with Kyoto specialties and very kind staff service

Room is tidy and clean, but better if I could have more desk space so I can open laptop easily (needed to squeeze my body between bed and very small desk) and drawers to put changes in (none)
