Hotel Casino Ridola

The room 104 I stayed in has a mixed furniture between old and new: bed with wrought iron frame, vintage chest of drawers, futuristic bedside tables, TV embedded in a giant mirror. The vaulted ceiling of the room is also impressive. The balcony is very small 1 square meter. I appreciated the clean pool, large enough. Unfortunately you do not find sunbeds but only S-shaped chairs that are not practical for sunbathing. The reception staff is great. I am grateful to Miss Alessia for all the help she has given me.

Matera is built on hills and this hotel is somewhere up. At temperatures above 36 degrees to go up and down steeply, it was not a pleasure for me. I mention that it is difficult to find a taxi in the city. It is recommended a hotel close to the center, by default restaurants. Being a 4 star hotel, the breakfast seems to me to be of the most average level, no hot food.

The staff were fabulous. I was very stressed from travel problems when we arrived and the receptionist was so understanding and helpful and made a spread for us to eat. We were unsure if we were going to be able to get to a gig in the evening as so delayed from travel (the reason for going to Matera!) and she did everything she could to get us a taxi there, even intimating she would drive us herself if necessary! It was my birthday and they placed a bottle of fizz and 2 glasses in the room when they found out. The hotel was very peaceful, beautifully designed, with a perfect pool and where the staff would come out to you to ask of anything you wanted. The breakfast selection was wonderful, faultless, and they offer snacks in the day. This is a family run hotel where the personalised attention shows. It is 10 minutes walk from the stunning Matera town which has to be seen to be believed. Our room was spotless and with beautiful features - it faced the back with no real view but other larger rooms did have much more space and balconys.

Very friendly hosts, helpful and with high service level. Breakfast was served on individual level with a small buffet. A nice upgrade would be moskito curtains or something similar. Location a bit outside the center, but in walking distance, therefore nice and quite with private parking possibilities.

Aircon was difficult to handle (in the floor) and due to very hot temperatures it was quite warm/humid in the room. Being the most expensive accomodation on our Puglia trip I would have expected a little bit more - but maybe Matera is more expensive in general?! Also the stairs to the 2nd floor rooms are very loud when people going upstairs - maybe this could be improved?

Amazing staff that went above and beyond to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel was clean and quite, on the outskirts of the sassi approximately 10 minute walk, lots of steps though. Our room 105 was on the 1st floor and had a huge terrace with a far reaching view. Breakfast was good lots of choice but not any hot options but that was fine by us. We were recommended a number of restaurants and bars to visit plus attractions. Pool was very nice not heated but still lovely and quite, had it to ourselves mainly as hotel only has 9 rooms.

What's not to like.

The hotel is a former home of the Ridola family that has been sympathetically transformed into a small personal hotel. The rooms are comfortable retaining the charm of the historic building.There is a lovely pool in amongst some very well looked after gardens. Location is excellent although the walk into the centre does include a reasonably steep hill. However the main plus of this place is the staff who can literally not do enough to ensure your stay is perfect. We stayed here for 3 nights and tried to extend our stay we enjoyed it so much.

Nothing

A lovely hotel all round, but the fact it has on site parking and is only a 10 / 15 minute walk from the start of the 'old town' makes it a winner on location and convenience. The staff were so friendly and helpful, supplying us with a map of the town and suggesting a walking route with the top things to visit, which was a great help seeing as we only had a day to explore Matera. Rooms are nice and spotlessly clean, and the hotel's outdoor and pool space is very peaceful, a nice place to sit and read or have a drink.

The staff were kind and extremely helpful. Especially Mattia D and Allesia. We had trouble with our rental car and they assisted in speaking to the rental place. Also, they cancelled our tour and rescheduled with ape picking us up at the hotel. Everyone greeted us with a smile. Breakfast was typical European breakfast, good coffee, sweets, cheeses, meats and fresh fruit and very good. The pool was fabulous and a great break in mid-afternoon in July

Easy to find in a town that can be confusing! Good parking. Small hotel - our room 105 had a huge terrace which was great for unwinding after touring the hilly town. Continental breakfast was very good, all you could want in a bright room. They bring hot drinks. Helpful staff who (obviously) know how to suggest a tour of Matera. They have their own map with an easy pathway. Room was bright and well lit. Recommended

Nothing about the hotel as such. It is a 800m from the new town which is downhill. You need to be mobile to manage the walk which includes a lot of steps. However, the less mobile would not like Matera anyway as it has a lot of steps. Matera is amazing but even in October, full of groups.

This was the most perfect hotel! Not only was it clean and comfortable but the staff are genuinely the best staff of any hotel I have ever stayed at - they made us feel so welcome and could not so enough for us. The pool area is lovely, and certainly makes this place worth booking! And while there is no restaurant or bar on site, breakfast is excellent and they also have afternoon snacks and drinks to purchase which were just smashing. Our room was lovely and comfortable- a little bit small but it’s an old building. Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to return here - it was an excellent choice!

Really just the location which had any negative about it, although there is plenty of parking so if you have a car it’s easy to get about.

It is a lovely place, almost boutique style. Whilst it is a grand old building it has very modern appliances and is decorated to a high standard. It was a good size bedroom with a lovely modern bathroom. The choice and quality of the breakfast was very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful and made the restaurant bookings for us and also organised a Tuk Tuk tour of the City. Having a swimming pool was also a great bonus. We would certainly stay there again.

We were on the second floor and the lift only goes to the first floor. Therefore we had to carry our suitcase up one flight of stairs. There were no other negatives.
