Hotel Hammer-Mainz Hauptbahnhof

The welcome letter says that Hotel-Hammer wants "to attract guests who feel at home with us." SCORE! This place is great. Just steps across the street from the Mainz train station. Someone to welcome you at the front desk 24/7. They cheerfully held half of our luggage for two days while we went off on a side trip. The breakfast buffet is excellent—abundant, artfully served and delicious. Pizza, tart flambé and lobby bar are available 24/7. Mini-fridge in the room, too! What more could you want?

Friendly staff, good size room, air conditioning (this was great since we were on the 6th floor and it was very, very hot), pretty good breakfast. Mini bar was nice and while expensive, prices weren't exorbitant and I appreciated having a cold beer after checking in. You can briefly park right in front of the hotel for loading/unloading and there's a parking garage down the street. Even though it's next to the train station you really don't have any noise and there are many restaurants and shopping options within short walking distance. Staff showed us a cheap parking option nearby.

Décor in some of the rooms was pretty dated... 6th floor rooms had kind of a 70's Vegas vibe with purple shag carpet. AC would shut off on its own every hour or so. Elevator is small, slow and only goes to 6th floor... 1st world complaints.

What I liked was EVERYTHING! We spent our first four nights of our month-long stay in Germany directly across the street from the Mainz train station. A great place to make your jet lag a memory. The sauna can be reserved between 4 and 10 and it's a fabulous way to reset your body clock. The staff is UBER friendly! SO helpful! We stayed this year because we had such an excellent stay last year. We'll be back next year.

What I don't like is telling everyone how great this place is! It's already hard to get a last-minute reservation!

The location is awesome to the station. Amazing breakfast and setting. Great ambiance and music. Room is a good size, spotless, and has a fridge. Soundproofing excellent. No noise from the station plaza. The receptionist is the epitome of service. Kind, helpful, and welcoming. Safe and secure place for bikes.

Some of the lighting in the room did not work. Minor issue because it is June. Offered another room, although we did not accept. We were good with the lights that worked.

The room was quiet and comfortable. The carpet on the floor made it cosy. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern

I arrived there on a cloudy and cold day. However, in the room I was given, the AC was fully working, with a temperature of 18°. As it was not possible to invert the AC, I had to ask for another room, which was less modern, and on a lower floor. There was no kettle in the room, I asked at the reception for a kettle, the receptionist told me that they don't have any kettle but that he's going to bring me some hot water, but forgot to do it

– Helpful, friendly staff, not only the people at the reception but also the breakfast team and the room cleaning crew, literally everyone on staff. – Great location right across from the train station – when my train was cancelled and I had a long delay for the next one, it was possible to wait in the hotel instead, much more comfortable than the station. The location is also convenient for using the bus network. – Pleasant breakfast buffet.

There was noise from the doors of other rooms closing. The doors are weighty and swing shut.

The staff was very kind to us when we had issues with our luggage not making it because of an airline issue. They were very empathetic and did what they could to help. The location was absolutely perfect. It's right across from the train station which means it's 20 minutes from the airport directly. We were also able to do some day trips by train. The room was really nice, probably one of the largest we have had in Europe.

Very central. Staff on reception very welcoming. Bedrooms were very comfortable and very quiet. We didn't breakfast here so cannot comment. A small bar area that was very comfortable for an after dinner drink. Location is key here. Directly opposite the train station, beside bus station and a short distance to the old town. Would highly recommend staying here.

Everything was perfect

Perfect respite from the fair in Frankfurt: clean and cozy with welcoming staff, a great breakfast, excellent wifi, and directly across the street from the train station. Will return!

Really nothing: the train strike slowed down travel but that was not due to the hotel, and was not overly inconvenient.

An exceptionally convenient location dead opposite Mainz Hbf, which is just what was needed. From first entering the hotel, you noticed everything was clean and Mr. Kapoor on reception very friendly, obliging and ensuring all aspects of the hotel were known to me. The bedroom was comfortable and the bathroom excellent with a decent shower. A mini-bar, at reasonable price, was also much appreciated, along with excellent local red wine. I had a continental breakfast in the breakfast room however I was the only one there as most guests chose to have breakfast in their rooms. Again, Mr. Kapoor ensured I had everything I needed for breakfast. This was a very last-minute booking but turned out to be an excellent choice and would recommend it.
