Selina Monteverde

The outdoor jacuzzis are great way to end a long active day. Rooms are new and clean, restaurant and the restaurant staff are lovely. It’s just next to Cloud Forest so perfect place if you want to go there early in the day without a car/shuttle.

Far away from the center so you’re dependent on the restaurant there but the food was good. Some of the receptionists (not Diego) were really unfriendly and not doing their jobs right. I was charged for a trip I haven’t attended and I was given wrong info many times that if I didnt ask few times about my shuttle I was going to miss it because they didn’t book it correctly.

it is too far out from town- they need to offer a shuttle services in and out of town. the staff lost our laundry (my family of 3) whilst they offered to refund the cost of our stay, which is currently bronze processed this doesn’t cover the value of our clothes lost. and there was ant any movement to get any further money from Selina. so we are without a number of items for travelling , the upset that it took 4 hours before they eventually admitted to losing our laundry. poor show

Location is great, you are a 15 mins walk from the entrance to the monteverde park. We didn't have a private bath but the shared bathrooms were clean and we'd totally stay here again. All the tours they offered made it very good to organize our monteverde experience.

It was pretty perfect, the food is meh. We felt a bit scammed because the lady at the reception told us that it would be a bit cheaper if we prepay the breakfast but it ended up being the same price and quality of food was very meh, but definitely convenient.

We liked the design and the option to spend time around the property (e.g. in the jacuzzi after hiking or at the bar for a drink). We also like the breakfast options and the available services (e.g. laundry).

Due to the weather conditions (rainy season + high humidity) nothing could really dry properly in the room or bathroom, which was a bit tricky with wet bathing wear and towels. We also could not leave the window in the bathroom open as there was no anti-mosquito net installed. Maybe this could be sth. that could be somewhat optimized.

it’s so beautiful! the location is 15mins walk to the beautiful cloud forest reserve, the surroundings, layout and amenities all perfect and the people running the hostel activities and kitchen staff were great fun, the food was delicious! Selina hostels can often be really busy and over priced but this was much more relaxed, chilled, decently priced and a little hideaway. it’s great for trekking but it’s not in the main town, so if you prefer to be around more people and restaurants/cafes etc it’s about an hour’s walk to town so not great for that! perfect for 1 or 2 nights and doing lots of activities in Monteverde

the reception staff weren’t very friendly and were really slow, making checking in long and laborious if there are a few people there booking tours or checking in/out.

Wow, just wow. This place is gorgeous and it’s a short walk to both the Monteverde Cloud Forest and the lovely Curi Cancha Reserve. The rooms are clean and stylish, the bar/restaurant/hangout area is super fun, and the food is EXCELLENT. I mean they bake their own bread on site ffs. Special thanks to our awesome server Luis for recommending the equally awesome brownie desert.

We had a couple of spiders and a centipede that somehow entered the room, but given how close you are living to nature in this place, perhaps it’s unavoidable. We still have no idea how they got in as the windows and doors seemed pretty well sealed.

*surrounded by nature, walking distance from Cloud Forest * interesting facilities: jacuzzi, common areas to chill, fireplace, games * dog friendly (one of a few dog friendly options in the town), lots of space for dogs to run and enjoy * nice options for trips and activities that you can book trough Selina * good selection for bfast * relatively quiet, even with the bad soundproof the place control music (it’s turned off after 10 pm together with lights) and it’s quiet till 7 am approx * we liked that there is no aircon and no heating - the temperature was just perfect to enjoy with the warm blanket at night and the air is so fresh

* the food in the restaurant is not very good except bfast and drinks are not strong too * 40 min walking from the city which is not so bad if you are with the car, but not if you want to drink in another bar or for driving at night in general * the hot water in the shower is tricky - it was very difficult to control - it’s or very hot or very cold * there was standing water in the bathroom all the time (not sure if it was from the shower) and it made it a bit smelly *soundproof can be a problem if you are very sensitive * we wouldn’t choose it for a long stay, but it was great for 2 nights

The hostel has a lovely bar area with a pool table, which we enjoyed in the evening after a day of exploring Monteverde. Diego did a great job of getting some people together for welcome drinks on our first night, but we found the hostel was pretty quiet with it not quite being peak season yet. And let's not forget beautiful Uma, the gorgeous golden retriever welcoming guests with a joyful tail wag in reception each day!

The location is pretty far away from any restaurants. You'd have to drive or get a taxi.

This hostel is GORGEOUS!!! The whole compound is beautiful, with plants everywhere. The facilities were amazing- a hot tub, a restaurant/bar with a pool table and open fire for when it’s cold, an amazing co-working space with fast WiFi! The showers were great and the bedrooms are clean and very comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again!

The hostel is very far out of town and taxis will cost about $10 each way, but there is a bus during the day. The hostel and restaurant were pricey but pretty standard for Costa Rica!

We really liked the common areas and the restaurant (vegan options!). The rooms we stayed in (standart rooms) were quite spacious. There was towels available for showering too. We were also able to book a ziplining tour through the hotel reception for a same-day tour which was nice.

We didn't like that there weren't real windows in the rooms, instead there was mosquito nets which had many holes in them. Essentially, we ended up with many mosquito bites during that one night we stayed here. Also, the hotel is in a location that makes you quite car dependent.
