I liked the experience of staying in an old prison cell. Be aware that although two original cells were merged into one room it still felt small. But I liked it a lot. The room was very quiet, probably because of the thick walls. One night though was very hot and the fan could not cool enough. But other than that it was really comfortable. It was clean, had a kitchen (which I never used), a nice yard to relax and a common room with aircon to cool down on a hot day. Reception staff was very welcoming and helpful. Your are in a part of the Fremantle Prison so if you want to visit the prison, it is just a few steps to the entrance. Other than that, it is about 5 minutes to the center and 15 min to the station. I would rate the location as very good.

This location was convenient for the Rottnest ferry, the staff was very helpful. There were a lot of different spaces to be outside or working at a table. The air conditioning in the rooms worked well. Fremantle is a cool area to explore, the price allowed for a local stay for a reasonable price for Australia.

The bathrooms in our section didn't have any tables or shelves, so I had to put my things on the floor while getting ready, which felt unsanitary. (There were no tables or mirrors in the room, so you have to use the bathroom.) The kitchen has plenty of fridge space, but no freezers at all. With 6 people in a room, the night owls would come in, then the morning tour people would get up...there wasn't much uninterrupted sleep.

Read in the reviews that the rooms were small and yeah they are but it was actually bigger than the previous hostel we stayed at so we didn’t think they were that bad. Room and shared spaces were clean. Probably one of the best hostel kitchens I’ve saw aswell, lots of space. Great location, close to IGA supermarket for food if using kitchen. Also close to visitor centre where you can hire free bikes. Comfortable beds. We really loved our stay here

Wifi didn’t reach the rooms & another toilet upstairs would’ve been ideal but it wasn’t too much of an issue overall really

The facilities are well maintained and clean all the time. The dorms are comfortable and tidy and have AC. Staff and guests are friendly, there's a person responsible for organising outdoor activities and trivias. This is not a party hostel so everyone is quiet after 9:30-10 PM.

This is one of the best hostels in Perth... There isn't much I disliked about this hostel. I'd probably replace the outdoor chess board and put a new one (probably out of the sun)... I'd also turn the conference room that's currently not being used into a co-work space for those who are travelling for work or need a quiet place to study. Other than that I can't think of any other improvements.

My 3rd time to stay from UK. Love the feel and the vibe of this place, lots of character and prob lots of stories to tell. Beds were very comfortable and thick mattresses. Big locker with PowerPoints inside. Individual reading lights. Organised events throughout the Hostel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good bathroom and shower facilities. A decent sized kitchen with plenty of fridge space and storage Quiet location but close to Freo city centre. Would stay again.prob the best hostel in Perth/Freo Area.

Not much as it suited my needs for a 4 night stay in Dec.

Good location, 5 mins walk from the markets and the cafes/restaurants of town. Lots of indoor and outdoor communal relaxation areas. Well equipped kitchen. Friendly and helpful staff. Secure luggage room to hold bags if arriving early or on checkout. I had a private room with ensuite which is in a purpose built block at the back but the communal areas and other rooms are all in the old Freemantle women's prison which makes for a fascinating stay - doing a guided tour of the main prison next door during your stay is a must.

The private rooms with ensuite are in a block at the back, the only downside being the window faced onto a corridor which meant you have to have the blind down most of the time for privacy.

I stayed for 4 nights, first time ever staying in a hostel. Greatly surprised. Just have to be OK with sharing a room, but if you spend most the day out and just want a bed to sleep in, who cares? Also all the guys I bunked with seemed pretty cool. No bed bugs, no bites to speak of, just some cool European guys who all had a story to tell. There's lockers in the room if you have valuables but I didn't bother since I was travelling fairly light, no complaints or missing items. They offer a massive kitchen, multiple stovetops to cook on, an oven, and a wall of fridges you can put your shopping in. I saved a tonne of money on accommodation and also saved money on food because I got to cook for myself. Even a cheap hotel will cost you twice as much and you'll maybe be lucky to get a kettle and microwave? If I visit Perth again in the future and these guys are still operating they will be my place of choice. Even if you didn't want to share a room, I think it would be worth it to pay the extra money for a private room at this location because the kitchen access is honestly a life changer. It wouldn't be any more expensive than a hotel room, but you have access to home cooked meals while travelling.

Reception seemed really dodgy in the room I stayed in specifically (104). Worked great everywhere else on the premises. Both the wifi and just using data on a phone that's only a few weeks old would have occasional cut outs. Very possible that it could be a problem with the building, which as I believe it is a heritage protected building there isn't anything they can do about it. Not cutting out to the point of being unbearable, just a bit of an inconvenience.

I loved the way the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The lady who checked me in on my arrival was so nice and very friendly. Perfect location for getting around. Such a beautiful place. So many things to choose from to do. Will definitely be recommending the hostel to my friends 10/10

The only thing that I would have liked was maybe halfway through my stay that the room was refreshed and bathroom cleaned. Or, even provide a shower brush for the floor and separate brush for the dorm floor.

The hostel is very different for being a prison, very interesting. The location is good to be in the Fremantle area, and the kitchen has a lot of stuff and space.

The bedroom wasn't clean , I stayed a week, and no one came to clean the floor, about the bin was emptied just once. The bedroom that I stayed in, our window was direct to the front door, so sometimes people were talking loud on late night close to our window, so we couldn't sleep easily.

I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodation. The staff were surly. But they were young, and most of the clients are young, so that’s how it is these days. The room we had was comfortable, but very basic. No extras, like soap or water, not even a glass to drink water from. It might be an idea to mention this, for people who may need to drink water from a glass, people who take medication for instance. Also mention there is no soap. Most people can bring their own, if they know in advance. In these days of COVID it is imperative we support the need for basic hygiene. Otherwise a very pleasant venue.
