As far as location is concerned it was great. Close to the tram terminal, subway and buses stopping outside the hotel. If you are into shopping it is all on your doorstep. The brew bar attached to the hotel is fantastic, both the beer and food are excellent. The onsite laundry was great, and the kitchen gave it the feel of a hostel not a hotel.

As with any city centre hotel it was noisy, and noisy on a par with New York. There were no hotel staff on site apart from cleaners in the morning, which meant if you wanted any local information you had to go there or to the information kiosk near the subway. Reception is in the Stafford Hotel on Powell Street, around the corner. As far as the city is concerned be prepared to dodge the homeless and the drugged up walking dead. However, beggars aren't a problem.

For this price, being able to just walk out of the hotel to the Powell BART station, to Union Square or across the hill to Chinatown was incredible.

Some rooms face a brick wall and get very little natural light. If you want to spend significant daytime in the rooms make sure you don't get one of those.

All was perfect! The localisation, the cleanliness of the room, the bed, the bathroom with a Bath. We really enjoy our stay here. Very cheap for the quality! I really recommended.

A little bit noisy during the night. We heart the noise of the street but we are in the heart of the downtown.

Comfortable, clean, close to union square and public transportation, friendly staff, even though there was no microwave in the room the place did have a central kitchen area for you to warm up food and cook if needed. They also have a laundromat, just remember to bring your own washing powder (Very close to a Walgreens to get this)

I was surprised they did not have any face towels but had bath towels; Would have loved to have a small coffee pot in the room and a fridge in the main kitchen area (they did not, so couldn't keep any left over dinner). Also, just to make everyone aware they have the Bartlett Bar/Restaurant attached to the guesthouse which is great, but can get a little noisy especially if they watching sporting events.

The hotel is in a central location, the train from the airport stops maybe 3 minutes' walk away from the hotel. Reception is in a nearby hotel, we had no problem with that. The room was big enough, bathroom as well, the bed comfortable. We ate wonderful ramen at Hinodeya restaurant just accross the street. There is also a bar/pub within the hotel, but closes at 9 PM. There is a pub accross the street, just next to Hinodeya, which was very busy every evening. For Shoppers, the Macy's is very near. We rented a car from the nearby rental office for a one-day trip, there are many in the vicinity. The good thing was that there is a garage, where upon return we could park, and in the morning we returned the car in the same garage. As the Tenderloin area, just westwards from the hotel is not very pleasant, I recommend not to walk to or from the hotel in the evening via O'Farrel street. You can use Post street instead. In daytime O'Farrel is not so bad, but locals were warning us to be careful.

Great value for money! The location was great - lots of stores and restaurants around, and very easy access to cable cars, the metro, buses, and the BART. Walking distance to Chinatown and North Beach. The hotel itself was cute, with a nice bar on the main floor. It's quite secure, and you have to buzz in through two locked front doors with a key card. There is no front desk staff in the hotel, but they're just a short walk away at a different property, and were very helpful with check-in. You do have to request room cleaning or extra towels/linens, which we didn't need, but it seemed like it would be a pretty straightforward process. The room itself was spotlessly clean, the bed was super comfortable, and we had everything we needed from a hotel room!

The rooms don't have A/C, so we left our window open pretty much our whole stay, and the temperature was perfect for us! However, because we faced the street, with the window open, it did get pretty loud - specifically on weekend nights due to the bar across the street, and early in the morning with garbage collection - pretty much just regular city noises. If you're a light sleeper, you may want ear plugs or plan to keep your window closed.

Good location and clean. Nice bar downstairs too with 10% off for guests. Rooms reasonable size too for the cost. Good service - they even delivered a requested fridge and later clean towels (NB there is no daily room cleaning etc unless you pay more but towels etc provided and delivered free on request) Good transport connections nearby too

Can't think of anything except that the box to leave our room cards at check out is hard to find (it's on the far side of the reception desk) Visitors should be aware though that - the reception is in a different hotel around the corner at hotel Stafford - this hotel is cheap because there is no room service unless you pay more. However you can get more towels free etc by asking at reception. They will deliver to your room.

The location is amazing and close to all major public transit, a grocery store, lots of places to eat, and a huge mall if you’re ever in need of a quick outfit change!

We stayed in a private suit with our own bathroom and the room did not have a fridge. Not a huge deal, but the communal kitchen didn’t have a fridge either. So we had to purchase ice and a cooler to keep drinks or leftovers. Another thing to note is that the rooms get very hot and during the day the windows keep the room cool but we were on the 2nd floor and felt really uncomfortable leaving them open at night due to them not having screens. So it gets really hot in the room even with the fan.
