I recently stayed at The Royal in Wallingford and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a lovely historic charm that matches the beauty of the town itself. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-prepared, making my stay relaxing and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to help with anything I needed. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Wallingford, making it easy to explore the local shops, restaurants, and riverside walks. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend The Royal to anyone visiting Wallingford, whether for a short getaway or a longer trip.

I stayed for one night while walking the Thames Path. The hotel is in a great location, just by the river, in a very quiet spot close to shops, restaurants etc. The self-service check in and check out process was very easy and efficient. The room was spotlessly clean. I didn't meet any staff, but there were instructions on how to use everything (e.g. wifi and coffee machine) provided in the booklet in the room. I stayed during a heatwave, so the room was very hot as there is only a tiny window, but the provided fan did help a lot. The pub was closed the day I was there (a Monday) so I can't comment on the restaurant, breakfast or staff.

Would have been nice to have some shower gel provided and perhaps some shampoo. There were two little bottles of conditioner in the shower, and some hand soap by the sink, but nothing else.

Nice room, very comfortable bed. Well sound-proofed from the road noise, when the double window is fully closed. Good in-room tea and coffee. Friendly staff. Extensive and fancy cooked breakfast was available.

The shower was luke-warm in the evening, which I immediately reported to duty manager, but no change by the next morning (when it was still luke-warm). Over night, our neighbours were quite noisy, and we could hear them quite easily. I didn't want a cooked breakfast (I wanted just granola or muesli and some fruit or yoghurt). The breakfast menu is quite extensive, and includes porridge, but nearly all is cooked, so I had a full vegetarian cooked breakfast and it was very nice (just not what I really wanted). It's a small hotel (just 4 rooms), so I do understand that they can't have everything available. It was £154 for the night, including breakfast for two. I could stay again, but I'd first see if somewhere else, better suited for me, was available.

Checking in is efficient, code sent to outside lock box which is very handy! The rooms are modern, stylishly decorated and cosy. The bathrooms are well lit and have come with a well lit mirror which is great especially if trying to get ready to go out. The lighting overall is spot on. I’ve often found in other hotels bedside lights far too bright or fiddly lighting switches where you either switch the whole room lighting off or can’t isolate just one switch! The attention to detail to the things which matter is what makes this hotel great! You can wake up and make a lovely coffee with the coffee machine or hot chocolate, If you are planning a meal downstairs, the food is delicious and the ambiance again in the bar/ restaurant is lovely. We visited once when there was a piano player by the bar who was fantastic. Love this hotel for location also, it’s right next to bus links and if you need to get to the station. Fabulous hotel! Nothing. Couldn’t think of a fault

The room was lovely, airy and well decorated and very clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially when sorting the key lock on arrival. We dined in the restaurant downstairs with family, & I can highly recommend the food, it came out piping hot and well presented and absolutely delicious! Overall, I would definitely stay again.

The bed was to soft and uncomfortable, even the pillows. Could not see the mirror to do hair and make up as it was to high once sat down.

The room I stayed in was No. 2 on the street side. The room was superb in respect of the furnishings and shower room. The shower was straightforward to operate and had good water flow.

No fault of the hotel, but I was there during a heatwave. Because the building is old, there's no air-conditioning and because it's close to the road (and pub just opposite), leaving windows open isn't an option, until around 1am, due to the horrendous noise. This made for an uncomfortable night

There was a much needed fan in the room especially with the very hot weather we’ve just had this weekend so was a welcome surprise to have one in the room to cool us down at night. Thank you! Breakfast payed for when booking was perfect for our needs as there was a really lovely breakfast hamper on both nights delivered to the room for the following morning and had a very nice selection of items for us to choose from. Room was clean and tidy, comfortable, nice and spacious, getting in to the property and room was simple on a self check in process with codes sent prior to checking in. We didn’t need to ask anyone but if we did there were numbers to call and staff around as we checked in about 1630. A last minute a late check out was also organised for us which was perfect. Thank you to all.

Nothing was happy with everything.

The team at the Royal were so helpful.and friendly. Welcomed me very warmly, and walked me to my room location. Could not do enough to help on one of the hotest days of the year ! Cooling fan in my room, water and tea/coffee machine.. Shower room so clean and stylish, comfy bed with hanging space.. Handy to be so near to Wallingford town centre. Will definately book to stay there again. Thank you !

Nothing - everything was great

The property was well situated for me to visit my father. The property was exceptionally clean, a very easy check in and check out process and centrally located to the Town centre. We couldn’t have been better located. The garden was a pleasure to sit in, most relaxing whilst soaking up the sun. The staff were really helpful to me as I was one week into a twelve week recovery from surgery and nothing was too much trouble for them to assist me. I would recommend this establishment to all people.

I disliked nothing.

We arrived a little early for check in and was greeted by Graham. He made an effort to contact housekeeping to get our room ready as soon as possible. The Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and modern. It had a spacious on-suite and tea/coffee facilities. The dining room was lovely and the food matched. Fantastic menu with fine ingredients. Breakfast was fantastic, again with high quality ingredients.
