Everything. The staff went above and beyond in defending the hotel (and guests!) from the torrential rain and flooding. They were bailing out the cellar using plastic buckets and outside in the rain, soaking wet, clearing the blocked gutters which were overflowing and forcing water in through the windows. They had a smile on their face all the time. Manager offered us a free drink to make up for our 'inconvenience' while they were by our table in the bar. So appreciated but we had a bit of a laugh with the lads outside. No inconvenience at all but the lovely gesture was just typical of the whole experience. Summer, the waitress, was a wonderful ambassador for the hotel. The room was quiet, as requested, due to the wonderful heavy doors and design of the room and the bed/pillows the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Bath & shower in bathroom plus a 'lounge' area with telly & couches. Our late arrival (11.30pm) was dealt with without fuss and the bar was open. I have wanted to stay here since I was a small child after seeing it from the motorway so often and have now done so. It, and the wonderful staff, exceeded my expectations. Room cost £109. We had been to a 'do' in Widnes but all the hotels there were full and throughout south Lancashire the prices were all ridiculous for modest hotels. We drove for one hour after the 'do' to get to Tickled Trout as it was the best value in the whole of Lancashire that night.
Damp mould around the shower grouting in our room 305. Maybe ventilation system needed cleaning out to help prevent it?

Absolutely brilliant place we had booked a room somewhere else but had it cancelled last minute due to a double booking so we looked as we were going to an event in Blackburn Whitton Park about 6 mile away we found this place and was amazed it was so Cheap for what we paid we dropped the car off at about 11 ish and got a taxi to the event and came home around 10.30 ish we checked in an was absolutely nakard from the event ordered some food reception took it in for us and we slept really well staff were brilliant from when we arrived to when we left will be back next year for sure
Only thing was the price of the breakfast at 16 pound each needs it was a little high for our budget but that's not down to the staff it's the price that has been issued by hotel just a little above our budget that's all hopefully it can be looked at so more can enjoy this lovely hotel

We've stayed here before so wouldn't have returned if we didn't already like this hotel. We use this as a convenient overnight hotel when travelling from Scotland to England as it is just off the M6 and Macdonald hotels are a brand we know well being from Scotland. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was very good and also breakfast which is cooked to order which is always much better than a buffet.
This time we had our 8 week old baby with us so had never needed to pay any attention to accessibility on our previous visit. The lift to access the rooms is past a flight of stairs in the corridor so not pushchair friendly. Another guest helped me lift the pram down the stairs. That was my fault for not checking about accessibility beforehand and as I like the hotel wouldn't have stopped me booking but would have requested a ground floor room which I will try to do next time.

I was looking for a comfortable hotel as close to M6 as possible in order to break a journey from the south up to Scotland. This hotel completely met all my expectations - the room was clean, bed comfortable, shower clean. I ate at the hotel in the evening and my food was hot, tasty and served quickly and efficiently although I was the only person in the restaurant at that time! Breakfast the next morning was great and set me up nicely for the long drive that followed
Minor thing - didn't tell me the code for barrier when I checked out. Fortunately someone else in the car park told me as I looked despairingly at the keypad ;-)

We were given the choice of a good view or a larger room looking out on the car park. We chose the larger room and it was very good. Clean, beautifully finished with nice art on the walls and comfortable beds. We liked that free mineral water was available in the corridor.
The only issue we had with our room was the access to it. My wife is disabled and wanted to use the lift. This involved going down a short flight of steps (which was okay) and then crossing a foyer area being used as part of conference facilities. This felt very awkward. Better planned access would be good.

Location and atmosphere were perfect. View was great. Slept very well. Loved the decor in the public areas. Plenty of seating areas.
Just a few wee things. Cutlery was stained: mainly spoons and it was probably water marks but a bit off-putting. No lock or hook on bathroom door. Wardrobe only had 1 sliding door and it was cracked. It didn't matter on this occasion as we were only staying one night and didn't unpack but not pleasant looking at the ironing board. Seating areas in public areas could do with some cushions. Seats are petty big so for smaller people, it's awkward.

Predictably lovely, warm, comfortable, professional. Reception staff were superb and attentive and made sure we had everything we need.
Noisy slamming about and crockery crashing at breakfast at the end of the session (at 10:20am when breakfast finishes at 10:30am) as staff were rushing to set up again . Not intentional I’m sure maybe just be a little more aware of guests still enjoying a relaxing breakfast on Mothering Sunday. (We had been kindly advised it would be best to come for breakfast later so as not to be caught up with 2 coach loads which we appreciated).

We liked the hotel overall, looked in my mums room and it was excellent with beautiful river views, breakfast was excellent and reasonably priced as was the hotel. Very comfy bed which was very welcome after a lot of travelling. Very cosy. The staff were all excellent and friendly. Very clean throughout and the free parking was appreciated and plenty of spaces. Right next to M6 so very convenient to get to, but with no motorway noise apparent. Would have no hesitation about staying again.
Our room was a little tired in the bedroom but the bathroom had obviously been refurbished. Restaurant prices were expensive as was the bar prices.

The room was clean and warm, with a great view over the river, the facilities in the room were great ,nice bathroom with good size TV, there was plenty of coffee and tea in the room with iron and iron board ,hair dryer and lots of hangers in the wardrobe. Breakfast very good with plenty of variety hot and cold.
Better signage into the hotel car park off the main island, you need to go to the services to get into the car park, once you have done it once its ok, but when you have traveled for 4hrs and a lot of traffic about it is easily missed.

Quiet hotel with a comfortable, well appointed room. Clean and adequately spacious. Great breakfast. Easy to get to in the car. Mostly good service.
Minor issues. One or two staff members could have been friendlier. I did not like the negative reaction to asking to add my hotel dinner to the room tab - this is the only hotel I have ever been in where this was not allowed and required me to go my room (quite a long walk) to get a credit card. The bar did not appear to have dedicated staff when I was there and it took a while to get service. The riverside location was spoiled by the proximity of the service station outside the hotel gates.
