My second experience of YH and this property is clearly a little older than the first hostel I stayed in. It’s a large old house with stairs up to bedrooms and down to the basement self catering kitchen and dining room. The catered kit And bar is on the entry level and I think there are bedrooms on this floor too. The room was a 6 bed dorm and I got to share with two wonderfully inspiring women on their travels. this time the bathroom and toilets were separate to the room, along the corridor. I actually felt this was more private than having them included in your shared room. This hostel is in beautiful grounds and is an easy, 15-20 walk of the town and station ( downhill)

The staff were older and not as overtly welcoming and friendly as the younger staff in the previous hostel. A green light (? Smoke alarm or security lighting) shone all night in the room which was distracting to someone who prefers absolute dark.

I had the best holiday in England Devon County with Plymouth and Torquay as the only cities i visited, but what cities? Amazing! Penzance and Lands End in Cornwall, very small city with clean fresh sea air from the big blue Ocean in the Atlantic Sea. The small town of Penzance was amazing with the Pirate Inn as my favorite pub eventhough they kicked me out because of callers, it was still an incredible experience to explore. And the hostel YHA in Penzance absolutely amazing 10 times better than any hostel in London. You could buy a very good beer and the breakfast was plenty full with juice coffee and tea. Youghurt toastbread with butter and strawberry marmelade. Lands End was so stunning to see. Plymouth was so much fun and cozy and i had a good night sleep in Admiral Mcbride hotel. Many Pirates have been to this part of the world it was like Captain Hook and his crew was there. It was like coming from a very dark room (Denmark) into the bright light side(England Southwest).

there was no bus going up there to The YHA.

I stayed for 1 night on the 17/09/2023 after a 14 hour motorbike ride. On arrival i was greated by Joanne, one of the most charming, pretty, helpful and warm persons I have met in a long time. She explained everything about the room and services to me perfectly. She is an absolute credit to the YHA and if she is not a paid member of staff, you need to hire her immediately. Then give her a pay rise immediately. She is fantastic and just what people want when booking in. The room was small but adequate for what I needed (sleep). Mattress was firm and comfortable. As where the pillows. All the electrics worked and the lights worked. Room was warm even without the radiator on. The room was clean. The bedding and sheets/pillows were clean. The building is beautiful. Fantastic facilities. Option for a full cooked breakfast on the ground floor. Set in beautiful surroundings. Nice and quiet at night. My room overlooked the front of the building where people come and go but I still slept with the window open as it was quiet and, other guests where very respectful of each other.

For the price of the room and the wonderful service and pleasantness of Joanne, there was nothing to complain about.

Loved the Mongolian gers, the futons, white cotton linen and twinkle lights around the tent. Also loved that we were given a pack of fire wood to keep us warm at night. Loved that full English breakfast was available at the canteen with alternative milk options. Staff was great at recommending where to get Cornish Pasties! Generally speaking, for a YHA experience that I wanted my two boys to experience, and for the price we paid, we couldn't ask for more!

-My son said he could hear the cars on the road at night. - toilet flush was a little hit and miss - toilets were a little cramped when there were 4 people or more.

We stayed in the bell tents and they were amazing. So clean and comfortable with a small log burner inside for warmth. There is a light and a USB charger inside the tent which was all unexpected. There is a designated BBQ area which we used (local Co-op sells disposable bbqs and tools pretty cheap). Location is great, plenty of parking and really cannot fault the facilities.

The only one downside was that there was a school of 40 children booked in for breakfast right in the middle of breakfast serving time. To be fair, the gent on reception did warn us so we dodged breakfast even though we would have liked to have it. I think perhaps on a day with a group of that size taking up the breakfast area maybe they should be the last serving of the breakfast session.

An out of town mansion, converted into a hostel. The receptionist was YHA standard, i.e. polite, helpful, knowledgeable and intelligent. This hostel serves brekky, dinner and has a bar service! I arrived with heat exhaustion and left relaxed and happy.

Lights on in corridors and a glowing thing on the ceiling in the room. I quite like total darkness during the night. Maybe you could arrange a 'dark wing'?

I thought the breakfast was very pleasing.! Promptly prepared considering I was unsure if I wanted it upon arrival and ordering on leave day. Chef was very sociable and pleasant considering this. His young lady assistant was also very pleasant and sociable. Pleased I took the opportunity to have breakfast.

There wasn't anything whatsoever I could find fault with!. Parking was perhaps easier than in high season but this is just an observation.

An exceptionally warm welcome, beautiful surroundings, good cafe bar and excellent wines, warm duvets, comfortable pillows, clean and spacious victorian house. As a single senior - I loved the sense of adventure

Only the unavoidable noise of doors opening and closing at night and some rowdy youths on one night. I purchased some silicone earplugs and slept like a baby the following night. I think the cafe could produce healthier fresh vegetable dishes.

We had our dates set and the day we travelled our car tyre was shredded on the motorway from debris on the road and we were unable to travel. The staff at the YHA were so understanding and accommodating that they changed our dates for us. When we finally made it the following week, the staff were so friendly. So easy to talk to and explained where all the facilities were. Our room was really big, 8 beds in total (we needed 6) but we had the room to ourselves. It was clean and comfy; and above all quiet... which is not what we are used to coming from a busy city. So the peace and quiet was welcomed. Also there were enough plug sockets to deal with our phone and tablets (over 10!). It was also a relief to have a basin in our room so that we didnt always have to go to the shared bathroom. The dining room is really nice although we didn't use it. We stuck to the self catering kitchen. And although it is quite big, I will say that it does get extremely busy at times and you may have to wait. We did keep our things in our room but there are cupboards and fridges, and these also get full quick. Most of the other guests staying were also really friendly which was nice as it does make the sharing of the facilities easier. The grounds of the YHA are lovely, not far from a vineyard so it's set in a little wooded area which would be great for walks and if we had stayed longer we would have definitely done. It's also in a great location as you have Marazion and St Micheals Mount 7 mins away by car and Lands End and Porthcurno Beach only 20 minutes in the other direction. So you have both the peace and quiet and the beaches a stones throw away. Additionally you have atleast 4 big supermarkets on the way to Marazion so you don't have far to travel if you need anything for your stay.

Not really a complaint for us as we had previously made food from home and brought it, but some guests were saying it, I think a bit more cupboard space in the kitchen and maybe 2 more small fridges and another freezer over the other side under the work space that's free as some people had to take their food away. Also the shower room was very tiny and it was hard to help my daughters wash the sand from their hair (no shower facilities at the beach). But it didn't bother us too much as we spent most of our time out anyway.

Saved us in a pinch, It was so easy and the staff were lovely. We were promised a private room and that was upheld, we were asked if we would like it cleaning. Even though we declined, it was nice to be asked. Really comfortable and clean. Recommend to anyone.

Rattly windows, but that was more the extreme winds fault at the time!
