Breakfast really nice. Staff welcoming and friendly.
Stairway to rooms really shabby and carpet dirty and worn in places, it didn’t give a good impression leading to our room. Bedroom was ok, old fashioned furniture but I suppose in keeping with the overall image of the building. Bed covers had stains (blood maybe?) and black marks on them so shouldn’t have been used on the bed. Bed and pillows really hard, some people may like this but we found it really uncomfortable. Bathroom was very dirty, not the bath/sink/ toilet but around the bath, skirting board etc. Overall could do with a really good clean, refurbishment and update.

The room was lovely and exactly what you would expect when staying at the oldest pub/inn in Royston. The location was fantastic, right in the middle of town. The included full English breakfast was amazing as well. We had a tall four-poster bed and a tall freestanding bathtub. It was everything I wanted in an old pub and inn.
The floor boards were creaky, as can be imagined in a building of its age. About a tablespoon of sand came out of the bathtub faucet when it was first turned on, and that was a bit odd. I was able to wash most of it down. But unfortunately, it made it a little slippery getting in and out.

Nice staff , central and convenient. Allowed me to check in early for a wedding . Nice vibe
Radiator was on it the hall on the hottest day . Sometimes I know this is an issue with some of buildings Felt a bit awkward at breakfast dining alone as no menu , wasn’t sure what to do . Nice man from kitchen asked me what I wanted but was unsure what was on offer It was 15 minute from close though to be fair . Old building and a little tired In places but part of character

March 2025
they made breakfast to go as we had to leave early
there was not much parking - and we had to park in the parking of the town - and staff did not warn us that it’s going to be a market and we cannot park there - it was lucky we needed something from the car and had gone out and a farmer was setting up and let us know we need to move our car - otherwise we would have been stuck for the day when we had to leave early for work - I asked the staff where to park and they should have warn us.

Room was slightly on the small size but in fairness we were there for only one night. Breakfast was excellent as was the chap who served it. Facilities were good and well placed in the town. The ballroom where we were dinning was within 10 yards of our room.
We had a dinner for 35 people. The room was on the chilly side. The staff put the thermostat on but the boiler was not on. They put this right before the dinner. The room was not cold for the meal.

December 2023
Room was spacious (four-poster room), some of our party had 'room envy'! Bed was fine. Breakfast was very, very good. Parking was fine but only because we had stayed there before and knew the drill!
Bathroom was a bit old-fashioned and VERY cold. I think the only heating was the towel rail which didn't work so we waited until we got home to have showers (only stayed overnight). Heating wasn't on in the room when we arrived so it wasn't a very warm welcome - but soon warmed up. We found the drinks very expensive (but maybe that's because we are from the Midlands!). Checkout was too early, 10am is mean after a big 70th Birthday Party the night before :-(

That it was central to where we were going to a wedding that day.
We unfortunately had a fire alarm go off at 1:50am in the morning. I had to call 999 as there was no hotel staff there which honestly made me feel uncomfortable. The fire department turned up, cleaned the building and allowed us back in. At 3:10am the alarm went off again. Not for long this time but still went off. To be then told it was a guest smoking in their room I felt wasn’t good enough. No compensation for the hotel having no night time staff, no number for emergencies & to be told it was because someone had a fag just wasn’t good enough in my eyes.

Very comfortable accommodation, separate from the main pub. We stayed in a suite, which was just big enough for two adults and a toddler. The pull-out bed filled the living room once fully opened so a little difficult manoeuvring around. The bathroom was spacious and plenty of hot water. There is a kitchen with all mod cons, iron, ironing board etc. The breakfast was amazing great produce and lots of it although we weren't asked our breakfast item choices The hotel staff were helpful and friendly
Finding the Old Bull Hotel in the first place was difficult. There is a sign in the car park that is nowhere near the actual Hotel. There is a sign set back from the road above the gravel road leading in but honestly you can't see it. Signage on the road would be a great help While the accommodation was as described, it would be a squeeze for 4 adults to stay there. Especially once the pullout bed is open. . It would be handy to have the two keys identifiable, colour coded as they're both the same for the front door and the room. The accommodation entrance is in a dimly lit area, and fiddling about to find the right key was a faff.

The rooms were clean with comfy beds. Despite being in a pub, it was really quiet. The food was really nice, and breakfast starting at 7 meant we could eat before we went to work. All the staff were really friendly. They even fetched water out for the dog owners who had fetched their dogs to sit outside. The beer garden is really cosy and set back from the road and has plenty of cover for if it rains.
Not me personally, but I’m guessing some people might complain about the parking being limited, but there is plenty of parking close by. We has a large pickup which I usually have problems parking in most car parks so it wasn’t an issue for us.

The room was surprisingly roomy and the bed very comfy. Breakfasts were excellent. One dinner we had was a jumbo burger which we shared. They were very good and cut it in half and gave us both chips and coleslaw that would have been more that for one - and they didn't charge anymore for that. Nice little town and the Old Bull is right in the middle.
Liked everything and we may sometimes be considered fussy.
