First, the location was perfect for our stays. We used the trains several times and loved that our walk to the station was less than 3 minutes. Second, the rooms (we had 2 different rooms) were quiet and dark (which we have at home and love); third, the rooftop bar/breakfast area was extraordinary! Fourth, the thoughtfulness in the design of the rooms did not go unnoticed - reading lights bedside, charging areas next to bedside, the solid wood door that slides to block daylight, the complimentary refreshments in the drawer, the hair dryer and straightening iron, robes and slippers. Lastly, it's a testament to the bedding and linens - my husband and I slept great, and that never happens at a hotel. We loved our stay!

This may be my favourite hotel I’ve ever stayed in, the staff were super friendly across all departments within the hotel. The quality of the breakfast was exceptional with plenty of options for everyone. The room was spotless, spacious and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Very good lighting within the room and full length mirrors which I find hotels are often lacking. The shower was probably the best hotel shower I have experienced. The location is absolutely perfect regardless of your reason for coming to Edinburgh. What a gem of a hotel and I will definitely be back!

Nothing!

Room (Roomy Vista) was very spacious and very well appointed (air-con, huge TV, Dyson Hairdryer & GHD Straighteners included). There was also a digital radio for use. The complementary mini-bar was reasonable. Pod coffee machine plus a kettle was a nice touch. Bed was comfy and the room (shower room included) was spotlessly clean. The choice of toiletries in the shower (Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body milk) was very good and smelled lovely. Shower was a rainfall plus a moveable head so that will suit a lot of people. Shower had a good flow too and there was PLENTY of hot water. Our room (509) had a dual aspect so there was good air flow but there was also air-con so the temperature was great. The hotel was SUPER central so no complaints there. The roof top bar (Nor'Loft) was exceptional! The staff there were really friendly and helpful and it was a lovely spot to sit, enjoy a drink and take in the Edinburgh skyline.

Although the bed was VERY comfortable it was actually two single beds 'held' together by just a fitted sheet (so if you wanted to move towards your partner in the middle of the night, you ran the real risk of slipping between the two beds) so that was a slight inconvenience. The GHD Straighteners in Room 509 did not run as smoothly as they should through my hair. May need replacing?

Location, decor, friendly & helpful staff and breakfast in the top floor restaurant with a view. We asked for an early check-in and they let us in at 10:30 which was very generous!

Nespresso machine didn’t work properly, fridge didn’t work and had to be fixed, no proper decaf coffee in the room (for breakfast it has to be made specially as the machines don’t do them), shower door isn’t sealed properly so the water leaks to the dry area, the shower drain was clogged and didn’t drain well.

Location, free mini bar, rooftop

Everything was nice. If I had to pick something that was not quite as expected for the price paid is the shower head that needed cleaning. I used an antibacterial wipe to wipe it clean from buildup but needed a proper scrub. the overall cleanliness was good but could be better for the price paid

Market Street Hotel charms and the staff--Frankie and Danilo!--are friendly, welcoming, and warm. My favorite thing about the hotel is the location. I did not choose it for that reason, yet it turned out to be incredibly significant because so much is within walking distance. Waverly Station is literally across the street...so my day trips to Perth and to Glasgow were a breeze. On the same block are two great coffee shoppes for breakfast options: Gordon Street Coffee and Jake's Place, each with great espresso drinks and bakery items--highly recommend the blueberry croissant at Gordon Street. Also on the same block are two great places for lunch, dinner, drinks, and desserts. Mimi's Little Bakehouse is fantastic for lunch and cakes and brownies, and the Doric Tavern is an ideal pub for drinks and dinner and has fantastic-tasting sticky toffee pudding! Within a 10-minute walk are Edinburgh tram stops at Princes Street and at St. Andrew Square (making it easy to get from the airport to the city), Princes Street, and Edinburgh's best restaurant: David Bann Vegetarian Restaurant. I had 10 meals here, and everything was scrumptious, and it has the best restaurant staff with whom I have ever interacted--Sara, Stephan, Leo, Duncan, and Reuben! Within a 15-minute walk are the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Calton Hill, the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle, and my favorite breakfast cafe for porridge: Deacon House Cafe. The staff and owners are very inviting and friendly. Loved the layout of the room and that there is no carpet: floors are wood in bedroom and tile in bathroom and entryway. The bed and pillows were perfectly firm and comfortable and having a refrigerator in the room was fantastic.

The only criticism I have is with breakfast. I chose Market Street Hotel for the fact it had a restaurant on the top floor with views of the city and offered porridge for breakfast. The porridge was tasteless--and that is with clotted cream and maple syrup. I can't imagine how awful it would be without adding those. And at roughly $23 per breakfast, having bland oatmeal (with no option for meusli as a cold cereal backup) was a big letdown.

The unique design of the hotel rooms incorporating blonde wood, slate colored bathroom tiles, and Scottish tartan on the side chair was very pleasing. Although the bed mattress seemed firm at first, it was actually quite comfortable and I had a great night's sleep on it. The rooftop lobby and restaurant have a cozy atmosphere with great views onto Princes Street Gardens. Location across the street from Waverly Train station is super convenient for travelers (we took the Airlink 100 bus from the airport, its final stop at St. Andrew's Square is only about a 5 minute walk from the hotel), major attractions are easily accessible.

Water leaked onto the bathroom floor from the shower stall.

I had 2 rooms here and they were wonderful! Very clean and the set up was great. The room was a little off from the toilet and the sink was on the outside so others could get ready. Robe & slippers were a nice touch with good smelling soaps. Quiet. Staff was very friendly and we were all greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival. The bar on the 7th floor was nice with great views of the city. The cocktails were a bit pricey and honestly, for the price, I expected them to be a bit better. That was the only miss at this hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Bar drinks were not that great. Overpriced for the quality.

Superb location beside the bridge connecting the Old Town & New Town. Right beside Waverley Station and about 7 minutes walk from the Airport Tram stop (no difficult hills or steps to have to drag bags around!) The hotel couldn't be more central. Perfect for shopping & sight seeing. Endless restaurants and coffee shops within five minutes walk. The hotel itself is beautiful. Gorgeous little touches throughout & feels very luxurious. Staff were so lovely - down to earth & very helpful. In the room, we loved the little foyer/dressing area, perfect for getting ready! The robes and slippers were a lovely touch too. Lots of treats in the room & the minibar to be enjoyed & the coffee machine & kettle were much appreciated to start the day. Bed & pillows very comfortable & no noise at all heard during the night despite the central location. We didn't have breakfast or any meals at the hotel so can't comment on that, other than to say that it looks like a gorgeous setting.

I think an 11am check out time is too early & believe it should always be 12. That being said, when they couldn't accommodate a late checkout (fee paying) they did kindly allow us to check out at 12 instead which was much appreciated.
