Hotel Bernina 1865

Good

Big negative: the hotel has no station to load electric cars! And this in 2023. It is necessary to use public loading stations, which are 10 to 20 minutes away. The closest station is in a park garage and it is extremely slow (3.5 KW/h). The faster public loading station (50KW/h) at SOCAL was out of order. A hotel like the Bernina should have at least 2 efficient loading stations (11 or 22 KW/h), particularly since they have the space. Difficult to reconsider a stay at the Bernina if this does not change quickly. This is also the reason why my rating is « good » and not « excellent ».

Large room with very opaque curtains, bathroom with large jacuzzi tub, mini fridge, ample closet and chest of drawer space. The breakfast room is splendid and breakfast choices are good and healthy.

Our room was very hot and even with the thermostat all the way down, it remain too hot to sleep comfortably. The spa was out of service so they sent us to another spa with a discount but it was fully booked. The personnel did not offer massages in the hotel - which were still available despite the spa being closed, per the staff we saw at the end of our stay. Too bad!

The 1 bedroom apartment is so clean and spacious. We like the location as it near the train station if you would like to go visit other towns. Staff are very friendly though not everyone speaks fluent German/English they still try to help. Just be ready with some translation app when its not working to make your life easier with some staff. But some receptionist speaks fluent English/German and gave us good recommendations. Also it is near a Thermal Bath and you get a discount if you are checked in and only pay 15CHF for an entry. Also we enjoyed the Sushi Restaurant at the hotel, they had some pianist and singer playing that time. Sushi were also good and the chef and the waitress were friendly. They were just stress when it was full as 2 people cannot manage the busy night. The other restaurant is also good and they share kitchen with the other pizzeria restaurant at the hotel

7 days was not enough also they need to invest on new furnitures in the room like some chairs in the bedroom. or the coversheet it could be a bit old.

excellent location, very close to the station. room was spacious and well equipped. the staff were friendly. the views from the room of the snow capped mountains were beautiful. the breakfast buffet was excellent- but maybe understaffed for a busy morning

we were not notified that the time we traveled was part of Spring holiday period, and many of the towns shops and restaurants were closed. Including the hotel restaurant for dinner. only available was a very reduced menu in the bar or room service

The restaurant at the hotel was superb. We had dinner there and the person attending us (Veronica) was super cordial. We were looking for sea food pasta and it was not on the menu and we casually told her whether there are any options. She actually went and checked with the chef and said that they have fresh clams and can make us the pasta even if it’s not on the menu. The pasta was super yummy. We finished dinner with the best tiramisu I ever had. The breakfast was great as well. The spread was impressive and the quality of food was great. Again we were really touched by the staff. Veronica (who was also serving during breakfast) came and asked my 10 year old daughter (super picky eater) whether she would have some hot chocolate because she was fussing about food. It was really kind of her to do so.

This has been a very grand hotel and has been doing business for a long time. It is a short (although mostly uphill walk) from the station and has been sympathetically modernised inside. We arrived after the ski season and before the start of the summer season so both the hotel and Samedan generally were very quiet. Our room was huge with a large bathroom and the whirlpool bath was a lovely surprise! The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast buffet the following morning was very good. There wasn't a great choice of restaurants as clearly we were between seasons and a lot of places were closed but that was not the hotels fault. There are a lot of pictures of the hotel throughout it's long life on display and these were most interesting. The short walk back to the station (and the general frequency and efficiency of Swiss trains) meant that we were able to take a quick trip to St Moritz and back the following morning.

The lift might be a problem for those with claustrophobia and was certainly slightly difficult to get two people and two large bags into and the pillows were very soft - not really major issues at all.

Very friendly staff, view from the room. Early check in was accepted well Nice old architecture is well preserved Mineral Bath suggested and discounted nearby was nice. Proximity to both bus and rail stations is a big plus. Saint Moritz and Pontresina are both nearby. Glacier express has a stop at Samedan. So it's a big win overall.

Restaurant food was not great for vegetarians. Room becomes hot even in December chill. Bathrooms are huge but few things are broken. Bedroom is upstairs and without windows. Kitchen is decently equipped but has no toaster. My booking was with breakfast but realized it was not included upon arrival.

The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom is large, with a bathtub. Very good location, near train station.

I stayed in the hotel before the pandemic and everything was perfect then. Now I was disappointed with the breakfast - many products were missing and were only partially replaced. upon request, after 20 minutes. If you can stay for an hour and a half at breakfast to wait for various products, it's ok, but we wanted to go to the mountains... too bad, I hope they recover!

When we checked in, we were very happy to receive a free 'upgrade' to our room booking, which was a nice surprise. Thank you to Davide and Pier Paolo at reception, who were always very welcoming and helpful, and we appreciated their cheerful and professional manner during our stay. The Imperial Hall is very beautiful and we enjoyed having our excellent breakfast there each morning.

Although it states on the Booking.com website that both breakfast and dinner are served in the Imperial Hall, this was not the case during our stay. The evening meal was served in the Pizzeria and/or adjoining Ristorante1865, and there was no separate half board menu with 3 or 4 courses, which was unexpected, confusing, and somewhat disappointing, as that is what we thought we had paid for in advance when we booked.

I love the facility in total. The facility is located in a very beautiful place, surrounded by nature. Although, i booked the room an hour before arrival in the late night, however, it was arranged timely. The staff upgraded my room. The room was very very nice, with full facilities. From the window, i was able to enjoy the beautiful nature. The staff was very much cooperative. For breakfast, i did not chose the option.
