Hotel Hellstens Malmgård

Wonderfully situated and beautiful old building with tons of character. Great staff - friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was terrific and served down in the lower level with low vaulted ceilings (watch your head!) All in all highly recommended. I had booked this room in a bit of an emergency and only needed it for one night: I totally made the right choice.

There was a cleaning issue in my room - Not a huge issue- just something for housekeeping to note. I was in one of the smaller rooms with a big heavy four poster in it that took up much of the room itself and I suppose cleaning behind it isn't as easy as it might be. I mentioned it to the front desk in the morning and they were immediately apologetic and without my asking gave me a small discount on my stay.

Lovely place, zinkermamm tunnelbannn is literally round the corner. Features in the room however the beams did have its issues of getting In/out of bed. Decor was lovely and the staff was brilliant and very helpful. It’s not far from some fantastic views on Stockholm especially when the sun is setting over city hall.

No toaster in the breakfast room, heard quite a few people asking about it too. It didn’t bother me but found out on the last night there is a small bar (fridge) behind reception!

Good location in a quiet neighborhood near a metro station, bus stop and convenience store. We were able to check in early because we came to store our bags in the morning and the room was already ready. The staff was nice. The breakfast was excellent - typical buffet style but with many quality options including several things for dietary restrictions (four alternative milks, for example). The room was very small but since we only needed it for sleeping, it was okay. It was also warm, they really pumped up the heating in the whole hotel which was very pleasant after walking around town in the cold early spring. There was also a pleasant little lounge area where we could have coffee and tea for free and we could even stay here after check out to wait for our departure time.

The hotel is in a reconstructed old building which gives it a cozy rustic feeling, but it also means the floors are a bit creaky and uneven, so the bedside table is wobbly, the water pipes are a bit loud, etc. The bathroom wasn't super clean - there were several cobwebs in the upper corners. The very small size of the room can be an issue for some people, though not for us.

The building was beautifully renovated. The location was very good, as the hotel was very close to the metro station (Zinkensdamm) and close to the action in this particular island. The breakfast was very good and the staff very friendly. Our room had all that you could ask for, though it was a bit small. I should add that the room was soundproof. In general, we were very satisfied with our stay. Definetely, a value for money!

Our room was a bit small and the bed was shaky and a bit small as well. The shades/curtains in the room did not block the light coming from the outside as well as we would have wished.

The hotel is located in a historical building that is just beautiful. We enjoyed delicious, abundant, and varied breakfast. Good location close to the metro station. Nice experience overall.

Our roon had a wooden floor that could use better maintenance/waxing/ lack, etc. It gave an impression of unclean, cold feeling. The small room is comfortable for a couple of nights, and anything more than that might be uncomfortable. The decorative elements were dusty, like the bed canopy or the bathroom door.

The hotel is nice and comfortable, and feels very traditional. We loved the quirky decorations and old feel to the building. The hotel is in a superb location, very quiet and safe, and only 2 minutes walk from the metro which gets you to the city in 10 mins. We also loved walking from our hotel to many places - nothing is further than 30 minutes! The breakfast is really good, lots of choice and always topped up. There is tea and coffee available always.

I can't recommend Hotel Hellstens Malmgård enough. For a start, it's in a peach of a location: on Södermalm, next to a super park with amazing views of Stockholm, near shops and a very short walk to the underground station, Zinkensdamm. Bus stops are also super close. Staff are friendly and helpful. Since my Swedish is limited to Hej, Hej da and Tack, it was a relief that staff spoke excellent English, especially front desk staff. Breakfast was an impressive spread that should suit most tastes as it ranged from bacon & eggs to fresh & stewed fruit and muesli. Lots of lovely, fresh and different breads, cheeses and meats. They catered for special diets, which kept my vegetarian self very happy: they even had oat milk: tack! 😁🙏🏼 I had a small room that was a lovely mix of rustic and opulent: bare boards, comfy bed, interesting oil painting based on a folk story and a super, high grade bathroom with excellent shower. Heating in the bathroom and bedroom was adjustable and very effective: phew as it was -7c one night!! It was a brilliant place to base myself to explore majestic, fascinating Stockholm and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again: excellence on every level. Tack så mycket

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. We had a small room (which I think is actually very reasonably sized) and our son and his girlfriend received a complementary upgrade to a deluxe room as it was his birthday. The reception staff were excellent; kind and patient - and the rooms were spotlessly clean and really warm and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a really good selection of hot and cold items. It's about a three minute walk to the nearest Metro station (Zinkensdamm) and a 75 minute ticket is 39Kr (just over £3 at current exchange rates). We travelled from Arlanda airport to Stockholm Central on the Arlanda Express (599Kr for four of us, single journey) then picked up Metro line T13 from Stockholm Central to Zinkensdamm, which is just four stops. It snowed on three of the four days we were here which we really wanted, so it was a brilliant trip for us at a lovely hotel. Highly rcommended!

The old details like beams, wide-board floors, deep window casements, and the cellar breakfast room added charm to a comfortable, fully modernized hotel. We were treated well by all the staff and we took full advantage of the generous breakfast and the all-day coffee service. The subway stop is only about four blocks away and an underground parking garage a bit farther. Be advised that parking at the hotel is limited and must be reserved along with the room.

Once we had moved rooms we were very comfortable. We had a ground floor room in the next door building which was great. Breakfast was excellent.

On our booking on Booking.com we requested a large double bed rather than two singles. This meant we were put in a small upstairs room with standard double bed which was not ideal. For the second night we moved to another room with two single beds together (in effect a large double). This is what we would have preferred anyway but it didn't seem possible to specify that with booking.com.
