Giritale Hotel

Beautiful location, on a small hill right over the Giritale tank, surrounded by greenaries. It's not a five star hotel so don't expect luxury but they provide everything you want. Staff is very helpful especially the General Manager Mr. Ganesh and the Food & Beverages manager are very nice. Its an old building but rooms are very comfortable. Bathrooms are modern. You can spend the whole day just by watching the tank, forest and the monkeys You are spending the holiday in a jungle resort, so expect some insects and animals in your room. That's part of the holiday

Great view over the lake. Lovely big terrace and decent swimming pool. Good sized room with a comfortable bed. Very nice helpful staff. Food was very good, varied choices for breakfast and a nice buffet in the evening. We were unhappy with our first room, but we we were moved with no problems.

Unfortunately, this hotel is tired and shabby. It could be a really good hotel if the decor and bathrooms were upgraded and refurbished. The air conditioning unit was very old and noisy.

Great location looking over the Minneria lake. Spacious and Comfortable room with AC. Bathrooms seem renovated. Showers had less pressure but hot water was available at all times. Great spread of food for breakfast. Both Western and Srilankan cuisines are available. Hopper (similar to crepe) is a must try. It is freshly made then and there. Friendly staff and there are bird watching, trekking, boat riding activities available (additional cost). Swimming pool is a great feature. Nice and clean and located overseeing the lake Driver accomodation included in the price.

A lot of bugs outside the room so couldn’t spend time in the balcony. Limited options for dinner.

The scenic view to the lake was magical, you could sit on the large balcony for hours, gazing out as the sunset changes colours. The grounds are very green, inviting and great design of public + private space, the pool was great to take a dip after a long hot day. The staff were helpful and attentive, great customer service, loved my soursop welcome drink (they even provided a great service for my driver, with accomodation and food, he said this was one of the best in Sri Lanka). My room was modern, clean, spacious and very comfortable, great choice of English spoken TV channels, great WiFi. The accomodation was amazing, would recommend a stay here anytime.

I'm not a picky eater, but i did find the dinner buffet was skewed to hot and spicy foods, even the roast potatoes were covered in chilli and pepper. The salad menu was 4 variations of coleslaw, they could offer a wider selection.

The staff was amazing. Specially the boys from restaurant. They were really kind to us. We were late for the breakfast on the day we went on the safari they waited us to come and finish breakfast. I really think the hotel owner should give them an increment. Food was delicious. We had some clothing to get washed. I gave them around 8.00 in the morning. I received all back washed, dried, ironed and folded by 12.30. very kind people including the reception. The hotel arranged us the safari for a reasonable price. The driver was the most kind safari driver I have ever met. We have been to other places too. But didn't meet a person who care for the animals this much. Had the best day. Thank you.

The only complaint is for the hotel owner. You have a beautiful property with an awesome staff. The property is getting destroyed. The AC was like a helicopter. Bathrooms needs some repairs too.

They have a great pool and because of the location of the pool, we were able to capture the beautiful scenery. Also the dining room served delicious food and the activities they provided were wonderful sources of entertainment. The staff were very welcoming and the view from our room was superb. I have a lot to say about this hotel, but I highly recommend everyone from every country to come to Giritale Hotel.

In short we liked everything.

We really enjoyed this place. The view is amazing and all the staff was very, very nice and helpfull. The receptionist helped us with all the trips and transfers. A big plus is that you can take the buffet meal, with all kind of local and international food. And the monkeys...that is a real experience to wake up with the monkeys in your balcony :-) We even had a local wedding, very interesting for us! Thank you guys!

Very friendly staff and a warm welcome with soursop juice. Great view both from our room and from the swimming pool. Very good 5 course dinner for only 3000 Lkr per person! Our room was also very spacious.

Unfortunately there was no breakfast buffet in the morning due to low occupancy. We had an English breakfast but would have preferred the choice of Sri Lankan breakfast like the guests who arrived just after us.

Our stay here was lovely - what a beautiful location! The staff were incredible and so friendly, Sampath was so amazing as were all the other staff whose names we didn't write down! The rooms are lovely, as is the pool and outside areas. We rented bikes from the hotel and one of us had a really lovely massage. The buffet dinner is also great, with a fab selection!

Great view from room (room with lake view) Room serviced every day (bed linen and towels) Good selection of food for all tastes (western and Sri Lankan) and ice cream 😋 Generator for the power cuts. Friendly helpful staff (especially Vijay who was dining room supervisor) Good value spa treatments We were on a cycling holiday and it's a great base for some fantastic routes along the waterways, village roads and gravel tracks.
