we used this hotel for one night as a base to get to the station for the train to Ella in the morning. hotel staff are fantastic, really welcoming and highlight of the stay. food was incredible, one of the best curries I’ve had of the trip!

as we only stayed for one night we stayed at the hotel in the evening. it’s quite a long dirt track up to hotel so not sure it would be ideal to go up and down it at night etc. it’s obviously very expensive for Sri Lanka but we had a wonderful stay and would return.

When visiting Sri Lanka, you definitely should stay in this hotel! Located in the magical area Nuwara Eliya (which will blow your mind!), right on the hill, surrounded by tea plantations and colorful houses. This hotel has a unique history as it used to be a tea factory in the past. Astonishing views, elegant interiors, delightful cuisine (their herbal tea is so tasty!), and impeccable service make this place a truly unforgettable experience. The hotel offers different experiences such as tea making (you will be dressed in the national saree), tea tasting, and nature walking at a very affordable price point. Upon arrival, you can book it at reception. We had an amazing time, and the entire staff was delightful to deal with. Also, I would like to highlight the gardener, a very genuine gentleman who takes care of the hotel’s garden with all his heart. The hotel’s facilities were superior. We liked the sustainability message in the room. The bed was comfortable as well. The restaurant served tasty food. Highly recommended to book for at least 2 nights to immerse in this beautiful place.

Breakfast was okay, with more choices of Asian cuisine than Western.

This heritage hotel is a former tea factory and the machines are still working today, the hotel is in good atmosphere and unique taste, very comfortable room and delicious buffet dinner and breakfast. The garden outside the main building is built down the mountain top, very beautiful and well maintained, the staff called Pathmaraj is very warm and introduced this very very lovely garden with his whole passion, it’s very nice and warm memory. And we visited Mini Tea factory and also the staff there is quite nice, her name is Krishnaveni, she gave us a quick introduction about tea making process.

It’s on the mountain top, the road towards there is not good.

The hotel is beautiful and situated in an amazing setting high up on the hills of Nuwara Eliya. 25 mins out of the way from town. It is very colonial and old fashioned. The food is delicious and plentiful. We also had a very relaxing message- and this was offered to a 12 year old too unlike in the UK so she was very very happy.

On arrival it transpired that there had been a misunderstanding about the fee quoted online. We arrived late in the dark and tired. The receptionist informed us that we needed to pay an extra 100 dollars for the children (we had booked 2 twin rooms and stated the ages of the children in advance so it was very clear) but the lady argued with us repeatedly and insisted that we pay despite the fault not lying with us. Fortunately the manager was contacted and he sorted everything out. We did not pay any additional fee.

Amazing authentic experience. The building, staff clothes, the tea... Everything let you feel like you wete in the olden times.

The staff can work better. I told the the tea related experiences are cancelled because the weather is not good enough (but at that time the rain finished some time ago and only fog remained). But they say that it will take place on the morning, but in the morning it was even more rainy according to forecast and it actually was. So at that time staff asked whether I would like to participate or not. Sounds like a joke you cancelled when you should arrange this experience and ask me whether I would like to participate when it is heavy rain.

We chose the hotel for its history and great restaurant references. We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the staff here. In other 5* hotels in Sri Lanka, guests may wear shorts to dinner, but here the dress code is followed, which we were really glad for. The hotel is really representative. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. I am on a gluten free diet and everything was prepared for me to enjoy. A big thank you to Norbert who looked after us in the restaurant and especially dinner was a real highlight. In the morning we went for a walk among the tea plantations and visited a small tea museum. If we had not booked another hotel for our sightseeing tour of Sri Lanka, we would have stayed another night. We will definitely be back again.

That we didn't stay longer

Location and staff are incredibly good

Food was absolutely delicious top notch chef in Heritance tea factory appreciate all the chefs who work hard in the kitchen and keep it up guys. Front staff reception is absolutely fantastic they help us a lot while we are here. One of the front staff member call Sathish is having a personal phone conversation pretty loud in front of the room balcony area approximately 30 minutes which was pretty disgusting.Always try to have professional attitude when you are at work. Overall the stay was perfect and absolutely worth the experience ❤️😍

We stayed at this hotel for one night and it was perfect. The room was really cool, comfortable and had everything we needed. The restaurant was great and we really liked our breakfast. Two more great things which deserve a special mention are the garden and the tea factory. My girlfriend likes gardening while I’m not a fan and not even an amateur but it is so big and beautiful, you should see it. A tea factory is a great historical site where you can learn something new. We had a guide who told and showed us how tea is made. It is fascinating.

Everything was good. One thing to mention in this section could be the road to the place. But it gets better soon after a welcome drink :)

The food was absolutely incredible; would rate at 10! Definitely take the buffet for dinner. Besides good food, also amazing service! Also the tea plucking, tea tour and tea tasting was an incredible experience with the lady. I would 100% recommend this tour. A beautiful view and unique experience that the hotel is an old tea factory and that parts are still functioning.

The hotel is very expensive for what you get, especially the room. The room is in the old English style which is beautiful but could definitely do with an update; shower in the bath, noisy rooms, we had black hairs on the matras and when there is a lot of wind you hear loud noises through the ventilator at night.

Beautiful property and super friendly and accommodating staff. The welcome tea is AMAZING. Certainly a luxury experience. We originally thought we would want to go off during the day and explore other tea factories but ended up just staying at the hotel since it was so beautiful and have their own mini tea factory experience. We had massages at the spa which were amazing! Best massage ever.

Drinks, cocktails and food quite a bit more expensive than anywhere else we came across. Rooms are a bit dated (but that comes with being an older building). I think the carpet triggered my allergies a bit. As a Canadian, some of the colonial vibes/ staff uniforms felt a bit non PC.
