Hotel Casa do Tua

The hotel has a beautiful location on the riverbank and adjacent to the small railway station. It has great facilities for all weathers, including swimming pool, games room, library, lounge, bar etc. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, really flexible and ready to help. Breakfast was superb, an excellent choice and plenty of it. On the last day I had to leave before breakfast so they provided a packed lunch instead, which was kind. The hotel didn't serve evening meals during my stay (low season), but there are three great restaurants in the village so that's not a problem.

Tua is a small, rural village. Out of season, there isn't actually that much to do in the village itself (I expect there would be more options in the summer). In April, my options were couple of nice but short hiking trails, and some interesting small museums. The main public transport in and out of Tua is the railway (which is superbly scenic) but during my stay the train service was reduced owing to some staff being on strike, and this limited my options for using Tua as a base for travelling to nearby towns. This doesn't reflect badly on the hotel itself. In fact the hotel staff were very helpful in identifying which trains were still running, and investigating other public transport options, as well as recommending things to do in and around Tua itself.

We were checked in by Jose, who gave us a run down of the accommodation as well as a leaflet with tips and information on local attractions. He also happily gave me a kettle and cups for our room. We had a twin bedded room with private bathroom. All linen and towels were of good quality and size. There was plentiful hot water and two bottles of water were supplied. Wifi was excellent. The room had a river view which was lovely and adjacent to our room was a shared balcony. There was plenty of free parking outside and we ate at the restaurant next door. It was very quiet, even the adjacent railway didn’t intrude. The buffet breakfasts was varied and fresh. We were offered freshly cooked scrambled eggs. There was an outside eating area where we sat and watched the River Cruisers go by.

Super clean hotel, lovely old feel building with very comfortable amenities, nice helping staff, beautiful views from bedroom and stunning pool which we enjoyed heaps. Bed was comfortable and room was quaint. Nice breakfast, yummy eggs and I really enjoyed the occasionally offered savoury cake dipped in the homemade tomato jam - delicious! Lovely walks nearby next to the river and up the mountain Located conveniently right near the train station. Jose also organised a boat trip to Pinhao for us which turned out to be really lovely by Delta Tours. All in all, we loooved our trip here. Thank you team!

We were looking for a place to spend three nights on the Douro but not in a busy tourist area. We found there are a lot of quiet private places - that are very expensive... and some reasonably-priced places that are in busy tourist locations. In Casa do Tua we found the perfect compromise. It is a nice hotel in a small village on the Douro beyond the usual tourist destinations farther west. You have to be going to Foz Tua to end up in Foz Tua! The room is a little old-fashioned as is the rest of the building, but it has a well-kept pool and a good breakfast and nice staff. It was just what we needed - a quiet place to use as our base to see the Douro Valley. We had a nice view of the river from our smallish window. If they did a complete remodel, I'm sure they'd put large windows or patio doors and decks and charge double or more their current rates. There is not much nearby, but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our dinner at Calca Curta, a restaurant just steps away from the hotel - who would have guessed that marinated eels for a starter would be a highlight?! We also had a fine meal in nearby Alijo at the highly-rated Restarante Maria da Gloria

Superb view of the Douro River. We stayed in the apartment which had a balcony facing the river and the vineyards. Our unit was very quiet and we slept well all three days that we stayed there. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The bathroom is a little tight but manageable. The train ride to Pinhao is a bargain.

In theory there are three restaurants within walking distance of the property. One of these was closed because of the time of the year. One didn't seem to want customers and offered a limited menu. The third was excellent. There are no stores nearby, so do your shopping before arriving (e.g. in Alijo)

The breakfast is big and delicious, the pool and views are stunning (and I believe every room has a view), the staff incredibly helpful and accommodating, and the rooms spacious, clean and comfortable (better than they look in photos). This place is fantastic value for money. I loved it so much I wanted to extend my stay, but unfortunately for me, they were all booked out!

Everything was fantastic! It would be nice if the bed was under the window given that the views are so so lovely, but given the room's layout (or at least my room) it would have looked very odd if the bed *was* under the window, so it is understandable.

Tua We climbed down from the train into the baking hot sunshine and were immediately enveloped by the relaxing atmosphere of Tua. We watched and listened as the train disappeared, then we easily found the hotel and went through the normal check-in formalities. The host immediately supplied us with some refreshments. Our room was lovely, everything was perfect and the beautiful view was charming. We quickly made our way to the pool and enjoyed the most beautiful and peaceful afternoon. It could be a long time before we enjoy such a magnificent stay. We made a mistake and lingered too long at the hotel and in our room before walking down to the restaurant about 5 minutes walk along the path to the Riverside (Beira-Rio). We arrived after they had closed but fortunately the staff kindly served us a quick meal, which actually was excellent. I would recommend arriving earlier and calling ahead and booking a table. An excellent breakfast was served in an impressive great hall. There were plenty of lovely things to choose. In a single word the hotel was: perfect.

Property right in river with spectacular views. We did not use pool but it was very inviting and pool area and sun deck with chaises. Entire property immaculate. Lift. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with scrambled eggs also offered. Breakfast room is lovely and guests had option of breakfast on patio overlooking the river. Hosts wonderful. Walked along river after breakfast, so peaceful. Restaurants within short walk. Right across from the Tua train station- this would be the best way to get to location. Driving takes a little while due to topography although the drive was very scenic.

I wish we could have stayed a second night.

It was a good location and a beautiful drive from Pinhão . The hotel was very welcoming, comfortable and right across from the train station. We took the train back to Pinhão and did the 2 hour boat trip on our full day here. it was lovely. The restaurant next door is great as is the tapas bar behind the station. sadly we didn’t book at the tapas bar so did not get to try it but other guests said it is very good.

it is as far as you would want to drive along the Douro valley but such a lovely drive from Pinhão it’s worth it.

We thoroughly enjoyed being in an out-of-the-way place, and yet right on the River Douro. The staff and family could not have been more helpful. We had an excellent evening meal at the almost next door restaurant and a hurried, but memorable, visit to the interactive museum devoted to the building of the dam on the River Tua - we would really recommend a longer visit. And finally, we had a wonderful breakfast before leaving, in sunshine, on the terrace that overlooks the river. All-in-all a superb one night stay.
