Meliá Castelo Branco

Nice hotel with friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was very good with an excellent variety of choices - we even overdid it a couple times on breakfast...! The view from the room and nearly everywhere else in the hotel was beautiful, looking out over the city and the surrounding countryside from nearly the highest point around. Plenty of parking and really not too far of a walk down into town - just across from the entrance to the castle, a street with stairs heads nearly directly down to the town center.

The pillows were very uncomfortable - too soft but lumpy at the same time. In four nights, we didn't have a single good night's sleep. Also, there were USB ports by the bed for phone charging, but none of them worked.

Service was excellent, breakfast was lovely. The rooms were spacious and had incredible views. Gym is brilliant and the bar and restaurant also serve great snacks and food.

There was no kettle in the room and coffee making facilities were not free in the room. This was a bit annoying. You also have to buy a swimming hat from reception of you want to use the pool, which was a shame and not mentioned when booking. It seems a dated concept and meant we chose not to use the pool.

The pool and the front desk staff were very nice.

The bar attendant was rude. We arrived at 8:45PM because the trains were on strike, starving. We wanted to go into the spa for a few mins but the kitchen was closing at 10, although the bar was open until 12. So I tried to put in an order before the spa but the bar tender gave us every option available at the restaurant, which he wouldn’t serve us, and didn’t know the vegetarian options… the food was frozen pizza and a very bad salad with olive oil and vinegar on plastic bags. Expensive and bad.

Love this hotel, have stayed here many times and will definitely be back. Great location for exploring castelo branco and wider area. Walking distance in to town. Stunning views from front of hotel. Lovely indoor pool and gym which is fully kitted out with modern equipment. Great breakfast. Super clean throughout. Appreciated having a kettle in the room this visit. Good car parking. Noticed new electric car charging points on site.

The hotel is a little out of town, up on top of the hill next to the old castle and a great place to walk down into the old town by ye olde stone stairways, lanes and alleys. The indoor pool is large and the air temperature was very warm. The pool, jacuzzi, sauna and changing rooms seemed very well maintained. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The room was comfortable and a nice balcony overlooking the town and countryside.

The steam room was closed. No restaurants or shops within easy walking distance. They only left 1 decaffinated coffee capsule for the coffeemaker in the room and even though I stayed 3 days, I was asked to pay for any any extra capsules - a bit mean!

Elegant quiet incredible view wonderful Buffay breakfast was awesome. Our waitress was very nice hard worker. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace drinking wine and eating cheese very quiet and was very comfortable the bed was awesome

We learn the next morning how to properly set the air condition it was our mistake in America you push something to the right to make it increase in this case the fan blower you keep it to the left to get the greatest there other than that five stars

Very nice hotel, quiet, with a nice wiew over the city and surroundings, good parking facilities, nice pool, breakfast to meet all your needs. Ventilation well functioning, bathroom with "all inclusive", the bed was perfectly hard. The room was done every day. The restaurant was controlled by the most polite lady, and both the buffét and alá carte was very good.

The main door to the room was not properly sealed, so any noise from the hallway was disturbing. The staff at the reception desk was not very well trained in changing our bookings.

Superb hotel in a glorious location with tremendous views. Very comfortable in all ways - the rooms, the furnishings, the balconies, the dining room, and the general lounge area including the bar. The food was great, and ALL the staff were friendly and very helpful. The indoor swimming pool was wonderfully large and warm; and the parking was easy. THANK YOU.

It was all clean, fresh , modern , well designed with wonderful views ! Facilities were also great. The staff were also great and we were particularly well looked after by Tina (?) who came from the Acores and worked behind the bar.

Cannot think of anything negative !

Everything. All staff were absolutely excellent from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious and you get lots! Rooms were clean, comfortable and stocked with everything you could ask for ( we had a premium city view room). Shower was always hot and the toiletries were plentiful and for a hotel actually smelt nice rather than cheap. Rooms were turned out every day no matter what time you went out, unless you specified otherwise. Pool and jacuzzi were free to use. Food and bar prices are more than reasonable. The list goes on, it was brilliant. Would definitely recommend.

The only negative (which is only a small thing) was that none of the USB points in our room worked, or maybe we didn't know about a hidden switch or something. Didn't want to mention it because our stay was perfect and we just charged in the car or by normal socket.
