Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho Relais & Châteaux

Last minute booking via Booking.com and the last room available of the total of only 27 rooms. An amazing hotel. It is, as the name implies, a former fortress and it sits on a promontory with a beach on each side. It has been sympathetically converted, and furnished appropriately for its history and setting. The standard bedrooms are a little small but, constrained as they are by the original architecture, it is hardly noticeable. The public areas, lounges and restaurants, are large and again beautifully furnished. The food is excellent as befits a Michelin Star restaurant. The icing on the cake is, however, the team of staff, they are the real star attraction; every single one of them was friendly, attentive and extremely helpful at all times without being intrusive. If you miss this hotel, when you could have stayed, you will have missed a real jewel. In fact, go out of your way to get there - you will not regret it.

The hotel is gorgeous. It is a small boutique hotel. The setting inside a former castle/fort was amazing. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. The staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. The food was amazing. Everything about our stay was top notch. We would book again, and likely will book again for a future trip.

One room with 3 total beds would be great, but maybe not possible given the hotel footprint.

Amazing ocean views, superb location right on the ocean, next to two stunning beaches. Great fish restaurants in walking distance the photos of the hotel do not do it justice, the handmade, stunning carpets are standout and the decor is fresh and very well executed. Bed super comfy and good bathroom amenities reception staff were very helpful wonderful breakfast in the dining room overlooking the sea, some excellent products (bread, cheeses etc) loved the use of the free bicycles

This is a wonderful property- these comments are tiny details that could have been better, but no way mar the experience i was surprised the pre packaged mayo, ketchup and jam - not what i had expected from a Michelin Star property Not many cozy armchairs or big sofas to relax in with a book - reception and bar areas mainly set up for dining

WOW! What a treat for our last few days in Portugal....This hotel has AMAZING views of the beautiful, clear blue Atlantic ocean. It's also sandwiched between two lovely, clean beaches which were both enjoyable although the water is cold! One beach has chairs and an umbrella to rent for 15E as well as a bar/concession stand. The bed was comfy and the water in the fridge is complimentary and restocked. There are bicycles that are free to use, which we did a couple of times. Be aware that this hotel is ~ 10min drive to the center of Cascais, necessitating a taxi ride. We did this several times and were happy to have a varied selection of restaurants in town to chose from.

Very helpful front of house staff. Beautiful location, wonderful building, delightful lobby, very good restaurant.

Nowhere to air your clothes/ towels after the beach, lacking in outside facilities ie anywhere to relax ( loungers, garden). Windy weather makes you feel a tad imprisoned ( old fortress- no surprise), some of the breakfast staff a little unfriendly.

The view was stunning. The small porch was facing the ocean and cliffs, it was mesmerizing. The room was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. We appreciated the extra amenities (i.e. the cell phone) and the wine + cookies and water which was in the room for our pleasure. The breakfast was served individually (i.e. not buffet) and was superb.

We wish we could stay longer.

Everything ! The Portuguese charm and decor , the location near Guincho beach , the friendly , professional, non pompous staff. We lacked for nothing ! The views from the property and a delicious complimentary breakfast in a very nice dining room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Guincho Beach .

Nothing to not like . We liked so much we returned for two more nights at the end of our holidays .

Property is built on part of an old fortress so very unique. The common areas and rooms are very stylish. We had a room with a full view of the ocean…..so beautiful. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant was very good. Other good restaurants within walking distance. If you like surfing great place. Easy Uber from Lisboa and recommend Cascais for a day trip.

Staff was extremely helpful in several cases and very friendly. Location is superb. Food was excellent. We appreciate the very early morning “breakfast boxes” to accommodate our 6:30am departure time. We also appreciate the cleanliness and amenities of the hotel and room. Our best place to stay in Portugal after 2-1/2 weeks of traveling the country.
