Airport Birches Motel

We came off long flights from Canada and just needed a bed . Birches was quick and easy to find from Christchurch airport. The room was clean, comfortable and bedding was warm and cozy. We only used the kettle, coffee pot and microwave but could have cooked a meal on the hot plate. The kitchenette was well equipped for that. I really appreciated that there was a choice of flat or fat pillows. There was a lockbox for our room key when we arrived and my husband had a pleasant chat with the manager in the morning. There were beautiful flowers on the ground-lovely when you are a winter escapee.

Everything about Airport Birches was great. Close to the airport, clean, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. But the real asset is the staff, all of whom were friendly and amenable. A special mention for Brian who was managing the place in the absence of the owners. He was extremely helpful, friendly, attentive and accommodating about everything we needed, be it an earlier check in, advice on where to get food/supplies near to the motel or dropping us off at our car rental depot at the end of our stay. Highly recommended and we will, indeed, be back!

The room was clean and spacious. The motel was quiet and the unit comfortable. Parking right outside. Close to the airport and Southern SH1.

Room service had not been finished before arrival. The rubbish bin had not been emptied from previous guests and there was no towel or dishcloth and a few other items that would normally be completed before the next guests. Minor irritations only. The unit was still clean, and we had clean linen.

Easy, cheerful check-in. Room was smaller but bathroom large. Bed comfy. Good kitchen facilities with plenty of what we needed. Liked having a table and chairs for eating. TV easy to work out how to use. Very good internet. Best of all, it was quiet, so we heard no neighbours and got a good sleep. Handy to airport.

Luggage rack for unpacking had to be in the bathroom for lack of space, but we didn't really need to use it so it wasn't a problem. Really nothing to criticise for a good budget motel.

Have stayed here several times and always receive great service from the staff. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. It is sufficiently off the road so you cannot hear the traffic noise at night. The are good kitchen facilities in the room including a sink, microwave, kettle, & toaster. Always enjoy my stay here.

The room was clean and comfortable for two people. Free wifi and streaming on the smart TV were used and welcomed. Location close to the airport was also greatly convenient.

The bathroom and shower took up 1/2 the space of the room. A smaller bathroom could've allowed for a larger bed. Also, for early checkout, it's probably easier to have mailbox where you can drop the key as opposed to a lock box with combination. It was cold the morning we checked out and I didn't have the feeling in my hands to fumble with a combination.

Close to airport. Very comfortable room. Most obliging managers. Easy transfer by property managers to the airport. Very reasonably priced continental breakfast delivered the room night before departure. Quiet. Not much negative we could comment on.

Seemed hot water a bit short for showers. Did not take this issue up with managers so not sure if this was an isolated issue.

Good location for easy access to airport. Room was well appointed and had the best TV package of any we stayed in across NZ allowing us to catch up on world news and chill out before next long journey.

Could have had units on both sides of beds. Ever so useful to have somewhere for glass of water and bedside lamp on both sides. This is not the only place that has packed this facility, but it was really the only downside here.

Room was clean, with a spacious bathroom. For a short stay it was adequate.

The sleeping & kitchen area was too compact. The two of us found it difficult to move around freely in the room, or even to find a space to park our open suitcases. The closet was too small to be usable by two people, and was largely filled with an ironing board.

Absolutely amazing stay, very welcoming and portacot was already set up and made for us prior to arrival, which made for a hassle free stay with a little one 😊 staff are super friendly and helpful, warm cosy rooms and beds are some of the most comfortable I have slept in on my hotel stays. Would definitely come back again.
