Landgoed Oud Poelgeest - Leiden

Great location. 25 minute walk into Leiden or quite regular buses (numbers 8 and 50) from 10 minute walk away. Peaceful location with nice grounds and comfortable simple rooms, plus parking (if you have driven). We came by train and it was easy to get to. Reception and waiters were nice.

I debated whether to put this or not: our room was not ready at check in for another hour or so due to unforeseen circumstances. The hotel was very apologetic and gave us free vouchers for the cafe. This was a slight inconvenience but was not under their control and they did deal with it very professionally.

Set in the woods. Excellent restaurant - but there is one menu set for the month so you will only want to eat there once. Location was excellent for visiting the Keukenhof and seeing the flower parade, which is why we were there. Leiden station is about a 30-min walk (so 35 min into the old town).

Predecessors had left a cigarette packet and a cup full of cigarette ends on the balcony, and the cup had then filled with water from rain. We found them because the leaning staff hadn't checked the balcony before we arrived. Ugh. There isn't a good public transport connection into town - you have to change so it takes almost as long as walking.

Charming hotel in lovely location. Everything very nice - good rooms, good food, good service. The dinner was particularly good. Very convenient indeed for Leiden, Den Haag, Keukenhof, Amsterdam, etc.

A couple of small gripes. We felt the grounds/gardens could have been better kept. The setting in the woods is very attractive, but some more careful planting would make it even more so, The breakfast was very good with an excellent selection. The scrambled eggs were poor quality and over-cooked and therefore rubbery. The coffee in the machine was also of inferior quality. But these were small points, and I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Breakfast was delicious and varied, staff were friendly and polite, and the grounds are beautiful. The hotel is lcoated fairly close to everything we needed and gave a great base of operations for us to get ready for the wedding we attended.

The selection of teas on the tea tray in the room didn't include English breakfast tea, so I ended up taking some from breakfast, but that's really the only thing I can think of - a tiny thing!

The place was easy to find, had good parking and easy room access. Our room had direct access to the garden. Dinner in the restaurant was a surprise meal, choice of fish or beef but not stated as to what the meal would actually be. It was well presented and reasonably priced. The park setting is quiet and relaxing.

The advertisement for the hotel lead us to believe it was like the chains Gast im Schloss or Romantik Hotels based on the site and views of the palace. It is a hotel on the same grounds as the palace which is used solely as a conference center. Note access is convenient only if you are driving.

`The Location of this fantastic property is set in some wonderful grounds. The large trees, daffodils and snowdrops were a sight to behold with the Castelle and moat/lake. The room was comfy and all that you need for a long weekend city break - large bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a brilliant shower and of course a TV. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I would recommend eating in the restaurant for dinner as the dishes are finely present and a dazzle for your tastebuds. This place is great also for Kagerzoom parkrun, which is a 20 minute walk away. As too is Leiden station.

Plenty of choice for breakfast, lovely restaurant. Staff very helpful, the grounds of the castle are lovely, good for dog walk. The room was very clean and the heating easily adjustable. My dog was welcome too. Car park had plenty of room, altough the hotel wasnt busy so could be different at other times.

Dinner is a fixed 3-5 course a la carte which changes by month so not great if you are there multiple nights, however the food served was excellent

In the summer, when the trees are full with leaves, the surrounding must look absolutely stunning with the small castle next to it . Breakfast was good, but a little pricey. The free parking is directly behind the hotel and very convenient. There is a bus stop about 5 mins away with a direct connection to the city centre.

room was ok, good shower. because of the sun in late afternoon on the window, the room was very warm. no airco (but van was available). We slept with window and curtain open but than we woke up very early.

I liked the surrounding areas but it was heavy rains. Couldn't walk around. Very sad. The staff are friendly and helpful. Service oriented and professional. The bed was clean and comfortable. Smart TV. I can watch my Chinese drama on YouTube.

Breakfast selection wasn't that great. The dinner was 3-5 courses meals. No à la carte menu. A bit disappointing but the restaurant crew was very kind to find some small bites.
