Sugar Beach Mauritius

Grounds were beautiful and very spacious, it felt very quiet during the day. Rooms were excellent. Location is perfect, loads of space and loungers on the beach. Breakfast and dinner buffet had many options, and food quality was very good.

Only some minor things; quality of drinks could be better given the overpriced cost of all drinks (except in the Buddha Bar). Delayed check in after a long flight and no sleep and in the hottest part of the day could have been expedited.

Great facilities. Kids loved the pools, beach and water sport. Dinner and breakfast were out of this world. Views are beautiful. The staff is friendly and well trained. They made all of us felt special. We had a wonderful family holiday. They upgraded my Daughter and her husband from half board to full board because of a mistake from their side.

I've made the family bookings for 4 Premium Sea View rooms, as close together as possible. I correspond with Sugar Beach for a family unit because of a baby that is used to his own room. They said no problem, they can upgrade when we check in. Luckily I had my correspondence. Nobody knew about anything. This was not comfortable the first day because we shared our room with them while baby slept. They got the extra room the next day and the Hotel compromised to give them full board. My husband and I waited until 15.30 because they were still cleaning our room! Check in was 14.00

the staff was so friendly, polite, helpful and openminded all work together in a very effective way so every single day you can enjoy this place blessed by nature Yannick sent me on great excursions, Caroline tried to teach me some phrases in créole, food was great, so my stomach problems in Germany were blown away

The staff were very nice. The beach view was fantastic. Also, the kids club was nice too with daily programs.

Room cleaness was average and unfortunately last night a mouse appeared in my room. In resturant, I noticed omelette is cooked with pork food in the same frying pan they make veg omelette without informing people. Also quiet pool was not clean at all.

Hotel is wonderful and excellent beach and lovely for snorkeling.

Our only gripe was booking.com had a banner advert to say fully inclusive however the actual booking was full board so we had to pay additional once we arrived to be fully inclusive. Not the hotels fault but an issue between booking.com and the hotel.

The hotel is really nice, it's very big so there's a lot to see and do within the hotel itself. The beach is one of the best I've seen with perfect calm water to swim in. I particularly like that the hotel is situated close to Flic en Flac as I like to take a break from the beach to go out and grab some lunch or do some shopping in the nearby towns. Also if it rains that gives you other things to do than sit in a hotel room.

The standard rooms (40 squared meters) were too small since we were traveling with a toddler. The bigger accommodation with separate living room is much larger and much more expensive. It would be great to have a reasonably priced 60-80 square meter option.

The people in every department are excellent. The food totally up to the standard that we expected. We were there when the cyclone hit and the staff were excellent in offering us alternative rooms further from the beach if we wished them. Very impressed also that once the insurance assessor had been clean-up operations commenced so that by the time we left hardly any evidence of the damage remained.

Unfortunately coming from South Africa the huge difference in currency between SA. Rand and MUR made the cost of alcohol/wine and Beer totally out of reach. What was worse is that we bought a bottle of Gordons Gin in a local supermarket and the entire bottle cost LESS than the amount we paid per single tot. That meant that Sugar Beach (who paid the wholesale price) probably made a profit of over 1000% irrespective of any currency comparison.

We had a wonderful week at beautiful Sugar Beach Resort. It is well maintained with lush tropical gardens and has a gorgeous beach. Pool facilities are very good with the quiet pool as our favorite. The room was very comfortable with great sea view from the first floor and had all facilities we could need (water cooker, coffee maker, minibar, complementary rum). All the towels (room and beach) had a lovely clean scent. We found all staff very friendly and helpful. Our booking was halfboard, the breakfast and dinner buffet were both very good, a wide variety of choices including freshly prepared Indian food which I greatly enjoyed and with good availability of healthy options. Nice live music in the evenings with amongst others a very good keyboard player. We also had dinner in the Buddha bar restaurant where we had various Asian style salads, meat and shrimp courses. Very tasty and again very friendly staff. The gym offers good fitness facilities and amongst others provides free classes in yoga (from Tina and Anita), which we really enjoyed on the lawn outside at sunset. We also greatly enjoyed various professional stretching sessions with personal trainer Satyam with immediate benefit to our wellbeing - thank you so much for this! Besides the treatment in the spa we absolutely loved the ayurveda style massage at the beach by Elodie and her partner - highly recommended, a very special experience. The resort has a partnership with neighboring La Piroque Resort where you find additional restaurants and several watersport facilities to use, including catamaran, pedal boat and SUP board. The very kind attention to my birthday celebrated with a nice cake with pictures taken by a professional photographer was a thing to remember

The buffet price for dinner was too expensive in comparison with other resorts in Mauritius (60€ per person)

The property is beautiful, well maintained and overall aesthetically pleasing to look at. The beach is clean and beautiful views again. The pool is clean and enjoyable. The deluxe sea view room had a sunset view and was spacious for two people and clean. The drinks are very overpriced (Rs175 for medium size glass of coke) even for a 5 star resort.) The breakfast and dinner buffet selection is expansive and enjoyable. The staff at the buffet are very friendly. Buddha Bar menu is pricey however, the food and service was very good. The worst experience was at Citronella. There was multiple mistakes made with our order and there was an error with our bill. The manager seemed friendly but the wait staff and pizza maker seemed annoyed. honestly, the pizza made at the buffet was made perfectly while that at Citronella was sub par. The activities team were very friendly and attentive. The spa experience was great. The staff were attentive, performed the treatments well and were friendly. The spa was also beautiful.

Experience at Citronella was not enjoyable. The hotel staff at reception and tour drivers (contracted to Sugar Beach) need to get onto the same page. We had explained the tour we want and asked reception to confirm the price and tour amendments with the driver (twice) but once we got in the car, the driver said what we requested was not possible so our tour stops were cut down but the price stayed unchanged which is not reasonable but he was not interested in hearing that we had pre-confirmed.
