Shearwater Hotel & Spa

Delicious breakfast. Great variety and lots of healthy choices. The pool was amazing! And the staff at the pool were so helpful -- we wear glasses, so didn't see all of the pool rules -- the swimming teachers/staff couldn't have been nicer letting us know about needing a bathing cap. Jacintha at the front desk was lovely and very helpful.

It was pretty hot in the rooms - I'm not sure why the heat was on when we arrived. Luckily, the windows were operable, so we were able to get some air circulating. The gps directions to the hotel brought us to a different location first -- not sure why but we finally made it!!

The hotel is lovely. Staff were efficient and friendly. The rooms are lovely, super clean, nice balcony which was a nice change from hotel rooms that have windows that only open an inch or two. Car park is convenient. Lobby is huge with lots of comfy seating

I had two small issues. Firstly, there was a concert on for the night I was booked in. As it was a mid week trip, this was totally unexpected. It was my first stay and I didn't know it was a concert venue. The noise rocked my room which was unfortunate as I had a super early start and needed rest. I really felt this was something guests should be made aware of in advance. The other thing is the pillows.... totally lack lustre and flat for a 4 star hotel. Not comfortable to prop yourself up while watching TV and very flat while sleeping.

Just got released from hospital at 2am booked room and paid on line. When I arrived in a night porter who spoke and understood little english and was very rude could not grasp the fact that I had paid 79€ on line and insisted I pay him cash which I did by handing him 100€ which was all I had and deprived me of food in local takeaway he also took 7 euro to validate my card hospital grasp of English astonished me and I asked was there anyone around who spoke English he said no. I am out of pocket and fuming how do I contact you to get this refund due to me? I am now stuck in Ballinasloe without food the manager apologised the next day and promised better training for staff but that is no conciliation to me he returned my hundred but put the blame on booking.com I am still out of pocket. I hope you will rectify this situation. Brian Fitzpatrick

spacious family room, clean and staff all helpful and friendly

The staff at the Shearwater were absolutely amazing. Everyone is so nice and friendly and want you to have a fabulous time. We were there for over a week. One of my boys got sick whilst we were there and we were room bound for a day. They brought us extra towels, helped bring items to and from our room and made off menu food for my recovering boy. The staff at the gym and swimming pool were fabulous. Housekeeping were amazing and we came back to a spotless room every evening. We loved Sharon and Mary who looked after us so well! There is also plenty of parking and a great lobby if you want to avoid a busy bar.

The pool was lovely, however got over crowded very quickly. Our room was nice and spacious.

We had ordered breakfast to the room but nobody came and got the slip from our door which we didn't realise until the time of our scheduled breakfast which resulted in us having to go downstairs for breakfast which was fine however the breakfast room was very very unstaffed, waited a very long time for a table and once seated couldn't even chance asking a staff member for anything as they were simply too busy.

Staff were excellent. Breakfast was great. Good selection: irish buffet style, continental and off menu options(not included as part of standard Breakfast).

The hotel looks dated and needs a fresh coat of paint in common areas. Doors are worn, bathroom had loose fittings. Needs a little more care and attention.

All the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent , all very clean even though as you will see below I had a few little hickups, overall it was a really enjoyable stay . and would go back

I found the heat in the corridors and main areas was too hot and our room was freezing, I know there was a temp control in the room , but I was only guessing how to turn it on , maybe you could leave instructions, room eventually warmed up , so turn off the heating then as it got too hot, and as a result was freezing again during the night the shower and bath controls in our room was not working correctly and the top shower there was no hot water and the bottom control was roasting, ( I did mention this on checking out and reception said she would say this to maintenance )

Full marks for this one. I had never been before but would highly recommend. A spacious modern clean hotel with a very customer friendly culture. Staff in the restaurant were amazing and serving everybody although they were really enjoying it and couldn't do enough for you. And the cod and chips was incredible. Would certainly be back.

N/A I honestly couldn't complain everything was perfect.

Fan in the room made sleeping so much more comfortable. Swimming pool and facilities open from 6am.

Breakfast could have been slightly fresher, no eggs out on the buffet, no staff to request some, but no real problem, I was happy to do without.
