Elphinstone Hotel

The hotel is in a good location, very close to CSMT Station which is excellent if you’re arriving/leaving by train. The hotel itself is clean and well kept. The ceilings are high and it has a traditional character to it. Our room was a good size, the bed comfortable and the bathroom well maintained and clean. All members of staff were very helpful and polite. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is on the first floor of the building and the entrance does not reflect the quality of the hotel above. However, once you realise this, it isn’t a problem.

Central location easy to walk everywhere (if you are fit). Very clean. Staff were very helpful. Daily papers.

The entrance off the street is quite shabby. The hotel id on the first floor and when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised as the hotel is lovely. The down stairs entrance belies the quality of the hotel.

This is a well-run hotel. There was good communication in advance of my stay to confirm my arrival time, etc. Check-in was quick, and I was given a street plan of South Mumbai. I found my deluxe room very comfortable and it had unexpected things like a free safe and fridge. The bed was comfortable and the linen was new-looking and clean. The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was great. The A/C and room lighting were both excellent, as was the wi-fi. A nice complimentary breakfast was included each morning - an omelette and toast or an Indian dish. The staff were polite, helpful, and efficient in all areas of the hotel. Remember that it's a 2 star hotel, so don't be unreasonable in your expectations. The hotel provides excellent value for money.

There is a bit of external noise from traffic or a business situated behind the hotel.The hotel's location is handy for all the main sights, but you will either need to take a taxi or have a 30-40 minutes not-so-pleasant walk.

The Wi-Fi was top-notch. High speed, near zero latency, dependable. I guess having fewer rooms helped, but they really nailed that bit. This was a wonderful place to stay for the price I paid for it. The place was clean, the service was great and the breakfast was also fine. the common areas were also well-kept and useful.

My biggest issue has got to be a total lack of ventilation. They tried hard to help by cleaning the room well, but there should have been some ventilation in the room and/or the bathroom. The room was small, and if they could have made a space to properly open up my suitcase, that would have been awesome. There wasn't enough room on the floor or cupboards so I had to use one of the beds.

Location: although the street itself not the best-looking, the hotel is located a short Uber drive from all city’s the main attractions, historical neighbourhoods. Hotel: super cute small hotel with a nice interior. Loved carpets and chairs in the halls. Breakfast: great (by my standards) hotel meal: perfect omelet, some toasts with butter and jam and tea/coffee. Indian option also available, but I didn’t have a chance to try it. Staff: super friendly and helpful people 11/10. The hotel and rooms look like pictures on the website

Small rooms: they are absolutely ok for a short trip, however not the best for a longer stay. Cleanness: rooms are clean enough, but not “hotel-clean”.

it was a last minute reservation while arriving at India and having no place to stay and they literally saved me the night I arrived ,allowed me to stay for free so I could have a couple of hours of sleep before my check in . the receptionist were the most helpful people ever. You might look and think that’s a humble hotel but the people who work there make you feel like home ,specially as a female solo traveller

I would say the inconstant hot water , the breakfast is always omelette with coffee or tea but let’s be honest a daily omelette is better than just having toast and butter like in other hotels .

Front of house staff ,as were all the staff, very friendly and helpful . Breakfast was good , nice to have in-house breakfast for a change Morning newspaper a real treat

The only minor complaint, but not real a complaint , more of a miscommunication, their website says something like “ en suite with bath “ , now I know , that myself and other travelers would understand this to mean a proper bath , something you lay down in , but according to the Manager , that little luxury would be called a tub , and his bath , meant bathroom . Tubs they may be called in America, but not the rest of the world. Which was a shame , as when I booked , I envisaged my self in a warm bath , but not really effecting the overall experience!

Even though the building from the outside doesn't look so nice, the hotel facilities are extremely nice, clean and quiet. Our room was clean and had a spacious bathroom. The staff was very kind and helpful. The front desk is opened 24/7 which we really appreciated during our check out in the middle of the night. Continental breakfast is complimentary, same as tee/coffee in the afternoon. The hotel is located around 3 km from the main touristic sights.

Rooms have no windows. We had a room a bit on the backside of the building, separated from the rest of the rooms. We could hear some pump sound in the evenings - maybe because the room was close to a fruit packing facility. Our room also didn't have a fridge.

Staff was extremely friendly - everyone. We arrived very early in the morning and they kindly gave us a room as soon as one became available well before the official check-in time. They also kept our luggage safe on the last day until our late departure. This is a good and friendly hotel. The complimentary breakfast suited us very well and was always served promptly and with a smile!

The location isn't ideal, but I guess value for money makes up for it. It is possible to walk to Crawford Market and the CSMT train station, but the area is really not great - nowhere to hang out - and there's always a lot of traffic on the main road outside the hotel (no issue at all with noise). We took Ubers to Colaba and Central Mumbai every day. Luckily Uber is inexpensive. Some rooms also don't have a window at all or only one looking into interior corridor where breakfast is served.

Firstly, I want to write that the staff creates a special atmosphere. We felt comfortable and calm. The hotel with an English atmosphere. Even complementary tea from 5 to 7 pm. In general, thanks to the staff for the mood: every day after long walking it was nice back to our little world of tranquility. We had a deluxe room with a window faces to the street. The room was very clean, comfortable although small. Many guests wrote that most of the rooms have no windows. This is true, but it’s even better, you can’t hear the street noise. There was a complementary breakfast, very simple but tasty - eggs any style, toast, butter, juice and tea/coffee. Enough to start the day. Wi-fi was fast and stable. It was quiet inside the hotel. Even we hardly heard the main street because the windows had double glazed windows. It's possible to order food from a nearby restaurant.

The only downside is the location, surrounding is not attractive and 30-40 minutes walk to the tourist center. But Uber in Mumbai works well and costs around 150 rupees in that direction. So there's nothing to complain about. Next time will stay here anyway.
