AUBERGE Knowlton

My husband and I were visiting the Eastern Townships of Quebec for the week and the Auberge Knowlton was our home base. It is the longest continously operating inn in the area, originally an 1849 stagecoach inn. We loved the mix of historical and modern comforts. The owners and staff were welcoming and the inn's very polite border collie, Charlie, was a bonus. Guests also receive a discount for dinner each night downstairs at the bistro/restaurant. Every meal (dinners and breakfast) that we had there did not disappoint! The Auberge is located in an ideal location for walkability around the village.

It wasn't an issue for us, we were there because of the historical factor and knew ahead of time, but travelers with mobility issues should be aware that the Auberge is located up a flight of stairs and there is not an elevator.

This is a lovely older auberge in a fantastic location. It is charming and older but very clean and you can't get a better location. Bringing in my luggage was not easy and I wish I knew that. I have a back issue and the auberge is on the second floor up a steep and tall stair. I have learned I need to be more aware of stairs - not their fault. They even called and checked on me as I ran late driving up from the States.

The owners as well as staff extremely helpful. Though parking limited and we had a uhaul trail very accommodating as well as owner assisted my husband in getting it parked. Gave us info on bike routes. The room was wonderful, clean and the cleaning staff asked daily if we required anything . Wonderful retrasar to have morning coffee. Located close to many things… could go in for a long time. Loved our stay.

Only that the restaurant was not open everyday but totally understand with it being the end of the season and Covid on top of that. We were waiting for duck poutine all week. Only disappointed because we like savory and not sweet poutine and had maple syrup in the poutine. Not their fault though just our preference

It was an absolutely delightful inn. The location was great within walking distance to the Knowlton bookstore and other great shops.

The only issue we had is that there is no elevator in the inn. We were traveling with my mother who has some mobility issues, and the walk up to the third floor was a little tough for her.

This hotel has been receiving guests since they would have arrived in horse and carriage, but they’ve done a great job updating for the needs of modern travellers. The hotel smells fresh, was clean. Has up to date wall AC unit in the room with a remote. Hotel has a lovely second floor balcony with tables, facing the street you can go on to relax and eat what you bring. There is also there is a lounge room inside you can self serve coffee in the morning. The shower in the washroom had lots of pressure. The Wi-Fi is very good. Most points for the staff who were all very friendly and helpful.

There is no elevator in this hotel. It’s listed somewhere but I didn’t notice. A nice staff member offered to help us with our bags, but we managed ourselves. But know that this place is not appropriate for people with physical difficulties. Also our room faced the street which was noisier than I remembered. (Not their fault - that’s progress). The place has an old-time look to it, but more than adequate for our 2 day stay.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and I like the flexibility offered in booking of various bed sizes/arrangements.

The stairs were a challenge for my elderly mom. People with mobility issues be aware there is no elevator! The TV required a Roku sign in- perhaps there was a guest option we missed?

We had a nice meal, looking over the village park. People were helpful. Everything is close. A pretty country village with real sense of community. Bookstore visit pleasant for Louise Penny fans.

Didn't know we'd have to drive to Sutton to find a place for breakfast on a Monday. Supplies of dishes on menu in evening were low.

Old-world charm, friendly staff, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, cute town, and the restaurant downstairs was good for dinner. I loved it and would be delighted to return! A true gem.

I have no complaints. Everything was wonderful.

It is right in the centre of this lovely small town. The bathroom was spotless and renovated to today’s expectations.

The reception is on the second floor and my room was on the third floor. There is no elevator, so it is a lot of stair climbing with luggage. There is not always staff around to help. Air conditioner is in the window, and had not been turned on before my arrival on a very hot day.

The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. When we arrived we were offered a bigger room than we had booked. Everything was spotless. Also the way our dog was treated, was amazing.
