Sword Inn Bancroft

Very clean and spacious room. Nice bathroom, with tub :)! There was a nice outdoor space, very spacious and green, next to the river and near a park. Location is great, beautiful area. breakfast was decent and much appreciated, the yoghurt and waffles were the best part! Pool was clean and spacious. Small clean sauna was a lovely surprise. Pet friendly and welcoming.

I was sad the spa was closed. it would have been nice to access the pool earlier in the morning. freezing cold in the bathroom/changing rooms next to pool. It was slightly confusing to get to the room- would be nice to have more signage outside. no picnic tables in the back area/playground to sit and eat outside- its so pretty back there! Coffee tasted like water and fresh fruit had got bad.

I always stay here. As a child, the owners would send their overflow of guest to my parents lodge. I have history here. My picture is on the office wall with my parents.

I love the cabana, but can't always afford it. I thought the room (124) was small for the price. Comfortable yes, could have had a second chair to sit in other than the office chair. I just feel that it's very pricey for the size of the room. My husband is 6 feet tall. He had to sleep on an angle. It was not a Queen bed.

Room was clean, continental breakfast was plentiful, pool is huge, warm and well maintained.

Due to nerve damage from cancer I walk with either a walker or a cane. The only available room was on the second floor. With no elevator nor ramp I had quite a workout climbing the stairs one step at a time, assisted by my cane. I think all the climbing actually strengthened the muscles and rebuilt some nerve pathways in my damaged leg. An offer to switch to a first floor room for our second and third nights would have been greatly appreciated .

I was concerned about reviews which complained about the cleanliness of the room. I was pleasantly surprised that the room was clean (with no bad odours which some reviews noted). The bed was comfortable and everything worked well.

I wanted to split the cost with my friend which I’ve had not trouble doing so in the past at other motels. Usually motels/hotels want your credit card info upon making the reservation but don’t actually charge it until you arrive (or fail to do so). However I was told that the it was already charged to my credit card before my arrival.

The breakfast was good. The place was quiet. Close walking distance to everything in the town.

The fact that they charged me for taxes, that the price I had to pay was more than the price posted by Booking.com. The fact that "taxes included" meant "taxes EXCLUDED". I have complained to Booking.com, to no avail as yet. (The hotel says I have to deal with Booking.com as far as the overcharging is concerned. There is a problem with communication somewhere. Customers in this case are told something by Booking.com which is simply inaccurate.

Location is good - restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast was included - great juice and waffles! Staff were attentive and very approachable. Outdoor chairs were great for our group to chat together outside. Room included small fridge and microwave, comfy chair and desk chair. Lots of room for our things.

Room had a stale smoky smell. Disappointed that pool/hot tub were not available. Parking was a bit tight in the corner area - fortunately the big pickup that blocked my car was leaving at the same time as we were.

Breakfast was continental. Pool was great as was the sauna and games room (pool table). The hot tub was closed for repairs.

Our room on this visit was a little older than the other times we've stayed here, but it was clean and adequate. We liked that it had ots own entrance and we could park right outside our room - some of the other rooms have a shared lobby entrance.

Room was adequate, staff were friendly and accommodating. Property is located near all amenities, including grocery, gas, "window" shopping, and some nearby parks.

Price was a little high for the room you stay in, but the room and property generally meet expectations and is located in a better area of Bancroft compared to the only other motel.

Easy to find, rooms were clean, shower was good, slept well, nice grounds. It was good to have a fridge and a microwave in the room. Unfortunately didn't get to use the sauna and pool as we just stayed overnight.

Rooms were a little dated, the bathroom tiny, but all was clean and functional. Breakfast was limited but did the job.

The Swords Inn is right on the inside of downtown Bancroft, making it very close to shop and eat. The town is a wonderful "window shop" town going up and down the main street. The Inn has free breakfast, a nice pool, and great walking access to the York River on the outside of Millennial Park. Good value for your stay.
