Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection

We stayed a week for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a 5th room ocean view room which was beautiful. Out of the resorts on the south east side of Ambergris Caye, this one was very nice and very well maintained. They had full time crew to clean up sargassum and keep beach swimming areas nice/clean. The pools were both very nice. We enjoyed the Deck restaurant and bar a lot - the food was excellent, staff and bartenders were all very nice, service was very good, and it had great views. We also enjoyed our dinner at the Sea Salt restaurant - the best lobster I had on the trip was there. It was nice having the Belize Diving Center at the resort for snorkel trips and next door was sailing (catamaran) rentals and kayaks. It was easy to get taxis or walk to San Pedro town, so the location overall was very good. It was a great place to stay to celebrate our anniversary. The service all around was very good and everyone was exceptionally polite and truly very nice.

Would not pay for the breakfast next time. It included Continental option only and was not worth waiting for it each morning at the restaurant - we skipped it after the first day. Would prefer some self service option so if you need to grab breakfast before snorkeling/diving, etc. , it would be easier and more convenient.

Front desk clerk..(she) was soo not helpful..I was confirming my departure and she didn't wanted to look into anything except her phone..if I didn't have previous emails and confirmation to show her I would had to pay again!!! And it was all on the computer.. about my party departure, when that was part of package as well as the breakfast....make sure you understand whats cover for that too..

The pool and property were beautiful and a good distance from the town and surrounding restaurants. The staff was incredibly attentive and welcoming which is important to me when I am on vacation. There was always someone willing to offer guidance or make a suggestion. We also loved having the golf cart to come and go as we pleased, but it was helpful to have the option of a taxi too. Matthew and Elvis were especially accommodating. The food was also delicious!

Our only major complaint would be that we thought the beach on the hotel front would be nicer with clearer water and less seaweed. That is obviously not the hotel’s fault, we were just surprised. The only clear water around was at Secret Beach and that was quite the drive, but still worth seeing. The only other thing I would provide feedback on is that my Wi-Fi kept going in and out in the hotel. I was advised to restart my phone and despite doing so multiple times, it never stayed on consistently, but it stayed on at all the restaurants. Perhaps that is something they could look into.

The resort was great. Everyone of the staff was excellent. I have owned condos in Belize for the last 13 years and was down for a closing. Location is perfect, quality was perfect.

The only thing that could have been better was the value of the food. Very over priced. Also you want $100 US a day for a golf cart and I can rent one not 100 yards from you for $35 Belize a day.

Alaia Resort Servers: Lucia, Blanca, Cyndi Bellman: Elvis Front desk: Jorge To set some reviewing context, I am from an island country that is renowned for its beaches, crystal clear water and resorts, so when I travel to other countries boasting these amenities, I am very judgemental! 😬 That being said, Alaia Resort on Ambergris Caye, Belize is exceptional. I always give any praise to a resort, first and foremost, to its staff. The staff at Alaia are warm, friendly and helpful. They remember your name (Cyndi) and are willing to help with anything. The property itself is immaculate. The grounds are kept clean, the rooms are modern. This ‘resort’ has a resort feel without being a massive property that you can get lost in. I saw another review mention cats. I saw 3 the whole time we were there (6 days). They are tiny, undernourished and stay away from people. There are 3 pools on the property. I’m not sure why they don’t boast more about the suspended pool ( 6 floors up) with a glass bottom, it’s pretty awesome! Food: pricing is what you’d expect for an island and any vacation resort, frankly. If you’re an American traveler, take the price of what you’d pay in the States and double it. If you’re from the south, triple it. Food quality: breakfast buffet is good. Restaurant food is fair. Alaia, thanks for doing such a great job maintain a beautiful property and for a great stay!

Beach: Yikes. The hotel tries desperately to maintain some semblance of a beach, but with a sargassum (seaweed) problem right now (thanks climate change), we did not go into the water. If I can’t see my feet, it’s not happening. (Excursions to Secret Beach were a disappointment also. But again, my beach criteria bar is very high.) The property has opportunities for excursions to the Barrier Reef and they were reasonably priced. This is the best way to get to real Caribbean Sea swimming and experience beautiful underwater life.

The beach was full of alge. The smell was terrible and the fact that you were right on the ocean but you could not swim, or even sunbath because of the alge. The fact that they ask you at breakfast what would you like to drink and then you will have to pay extra for your coffee (18dollars for cappuccinos at pur case) even though we had paid for breakfast included

We had an excellent stay at Alaia. The staff was very caring and helpful, both in providing information and with dealing with a noise complaint. We had a great couples massage in the spa and the pools are perfect for lounging around, with a swim-up bar and plenty of chairs available. The living area in the room itself is on the smaller side, but we had enough room for our luggage, the bathroom is large and the climate control gave the room a nice temperature throughout the day. The shower had a strong flow and the temperature control worked well. The various restaurants offered good food, though on the pricier side (if you want to save some money, walk a few minutes down the street to South Station grill). The hotel looks amazing with soft colours, green and light coloured wood. We would love to come back in the future. The hotel rents out golfcarts and the boats to the reefs leave from their own dock.

Though the staff worked hard every morning to clear away the seaweed, the beach that comes with the resort isn't the greatest. Many people went to Secret Beach instead, though we were fine staying at the pool. Our room had a connecting door to another room, which was fine for most nights but had a drunk couple on one night making a lot of noise. Staff dealt with the noise complaint.

Food was good but I believe I was taxed two times on all my food . And check in

A young girl got extremely drunk and had to be wheeled away in a wheelchair . Can anything be done about serving alcohol to young adult . Could there be a cut off by bartender when a young adult gets extremely drunk . How dangerous if she had sank in the pool and no one noticed her ? Everyone was upset about it . Please find solution to this .at breakfast she was complaining how no one stopped her or pull her aside and spoke to her . Not your responsibility --- yes ... but have the bartender call management in these cases .

This property exceeded our expectations. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating starting at check-in all the way to check-out, noting Noe and Megan especially in our great stay. We loved the layouts of the rooms, hotel suites with a condo feel. The room was very nice, beds were comfy and staff even had a surprise for me when I checked in for my birthday. That went a long way for us. The pool area was nice, breakfast was good in the morning and we loved ending our nights with drinks and Crispy rice appetizers at the vista rooftop lounge. We will be back!

The booking stated first nights deposit is taken at time of booking. This was untrue, the property takes full payment at check-in.

Honestly I can't say enough great things about Alaia. Every single person we came in contact with from the guests to the workers were so kind and welcoming. I did not have one bad drink or meal while we stayed, I was shocked and I am a foodie. The rooms were clean and spacious. We had a gorgeous view. The property itself was beautiful. We were very close to town which was nice if we wanted to walk to some places without taking a taxi. Most definitely would recommend time and time again. I miss it already!

The only thing I can say is there were a few ants in our room when we first arrived, but they took care of it immediately and we didn't have anymore issues after that. Very satisfied.
