Castelnou Aparthotel

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is onsite parking available for €15 per 24 hours, but your car must be registered to drive in the Ghent Low Emissions Zone to avoid a fine. The breakfast selection was good with both continental and hot options.

It was further out of the centre than we thought it would be, but if you don't mind walking, then it is fine.

This is everything I want in a hotel, because it's an apartment and the breakfast possibility of an Hotel. The bedroom is sure big enough and so is the living room. Adequate kitchenette, with coffee machine and water cooker. Reception desk is so very friendly and helpful, the have public transport cards there! Location is great, just outside the city centre, you can walk there, take the bus, walk a bit and take the tram.

The touch control of the cooker is not user friendly to work with, but they never are.

Melissa was Fabulous, we were greeted upon arrival and she realized we did not speak Dutch and immediately began speaking English. She answered all of our questions and helped with navigating the city and transportation for our train trips. The room had a kitchen was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. It is a 10 minute walk to city center and about 5 minutes to the Damport train station. The parking is secure and on hotel premises. If you don't mind not being in city center this will give you more room and comfort for a great price.

Over all great - if I had to choose one thing is the signage on the parking - that could be improved.

Location is very good, close to the center but quiet surroundings. Bus stop right by the hotel, tram - within 5 min walk. Breakfast - super good and tasty, always a selection if fresh fruit and greens. Try the brownie! It was really the best brownie I ever ate. Room was super clean! Kitchen includes all necessary facilities and the nearby supermarket (in Gent Zuid shopping center) has wide selection of groceries if you want cook.

The only drawback I can mention probably has something to do with the super clean rooms - the cleaning personnel starts really early (from 9) and is really loud. So do not expect to have a lazy sleepy morning if on a vacation - they will wake you up. But again, the rooms are super clean!!! So one can be tolerant for the people doing their job responsibly!

We requested a peaceful room, and the one-bed apartment overlooking the garden on the fourth floor really delivered. We felt very comfortable to relax there. All staff were great. Breakfast (continental plus eggs and bacon) delivered. Kitchenette was adequate for our needs. We stayed a week, but it would have been comfortable for a fortnight or even longer. There was a little walk to get to the centre, but the staff showed us the nicest way to walk along the waterways.

The garden should have been one of the features of this hotel, but looked like a place were staff took their cigarette breaks. A few more seating options and pressure-hosing (or mopping) the patio floor would have made all the difference. Also, we were given twin beds rather than double, for which the hotel apologised, but did make the stay a little less romantic.

The Aparthotel Castelnou was excellent and provided everything we needed for our 3 night visit to Ghent. The location was perfect, in a quietish area of the city but only 20 minutes walk to the Old Town and it's many attractions. Car parking is available on site. Out apartment was lovely, it was clean, of good size, comfortable and provided everything that we needed. The staff there were polite, courteous and knowledgeable. The included self service breakfast was also very good. We would definitely stay here again.

I'm just being picky but a bigger kettle would have been helpful, we're English and like a proper pot of tea!

As we were expecting to arrive around 21:30, we were after a hotel that was easy to find, by car, and had convenient parking. Aparthotel Castelnou was ideal, just off the inner ring-road with it's own parking. The room was fully prepared with two additional beds made up ready for the children. We expected a sofa bed for the children, so this was better than expected as it meant we still had the sofa too. Wi-fi was good and the breakfast was excellent both in terms of selection and quality, with fresh bread and pastries. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of town, the price you pay for easy access by car but it's a pleasant walk along the canals and suited us fine. Room was modern, clean, well equipped with hob, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and fridge, TV had a wide range of channels including all the main UK ones. Would I use Aparthotel Castelnou again? absolutely.

My only criticism would be that breakfast items were not always replenished once they'd run out (no bacon on Sunday and croissants/pastries on Monday)

Very welcoming staff, extremely friendly. Hired a bike which was great.

Air conditioning leaked overnight and kept us awake dripping. When we reported it, as it kept my husband awake they said oh dear not again. They had no spare rooms so we had to accept it. No discount was offered.

Large rooms, well equipped and good facilities (mini-apartment, so hob and kitchen essentials - not used in our case). Comfortable beds. Air conditioning very quiet and effective. Very helpful and pleasant receptionist.

Be nice to have an iron for creased clothes after travelling.

It was a perfect spot we were nicely greeted and suggestions for our visit were offered. The included breakfast was wonderful. The area was quiet and we felt safe as we walked in the neighborhood.

It was a little further from town center than we would have liked……a good twenty minute walk. We like to walk so we were okay but it could be difficult for some.
