The Lighthouse Hotel

Love the roomy bathroom and the room itself, all the storage space, the fact that there is a microwave as well as some cutlery & crockery (enough to cover all basic meal needs). Perfect lighting (not the annoying dim lighting that most accommodations have these days), a downlight for each side of every bed and a switch within reach for it. Absolutely central to the town, and 100m to the bus interchange. Even the fact that there was a decent sized rubbish bin was brilliant (sounds silly but those pesky little bins that other places have, are pointless for visitors who like to shop!).

Wow, I have to struggle to make something up, but I will admit that the TV screen was too large for me, but that's so far from being a real problem!

A little unassuming from the exterior/entranceway, however we were blown away by our room. The decor was lovely, the bathroom was immaculate and the tv was BIG. We got to Ulverston just after lunch after arriving that morning on the Spirit of Tasmania. While we planned to explore more of the town/area that day, once we saw our room we kind of laxed out and didn't end up moving until we needed to get up for dinner! Our best stay across our whole trip through Tas. Oh and course proximity to town – you are right on the main street!

Only minor things but not having an elevator when you are carrying 6 days worth of luggage is a little tough, but we managed! Definitely not wheelchair accessible as far as I could tell but not 100% sure of this. The other thing was the bowls were teeny tiny so was hard to make breakfast that morning + no dish liquid to do a proper clean up

An alarm going off between 11pm and 12 midnight two rooms away. Very distressing. I was rudely woken up with no way to turn it off. No staff on the premises to deal with it. I rang a number on the key and informed it was (Paul? Answered) an after hours security person who said he could not do anything, that all staff had gone home no one one the premises and that they are aware of the problem from previous alarm incidences. I believe they may not even have been any other guest on the premises. Certainly not within my vicinity. Anyway it did stop at midnight. But unfortunately I had a very bad night not much rest at all. Wow! Stylish and very smart. Very open plan, no corridors. Potential claustrophics will love it. The room was large and very comfortable, one could almost say luxurious. Medium sized fridge, better than average for Australian h(m)otel room. Bathroom thoroughly updated and smart. Staff EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. Restaurant excellent quality, variety and value; no reason to eat anywhere else in Ulverston.

Personally, nothing. But some may have a problem with the rooms being up on the second floor, and no lift (elevator). Two flights of stairs to get there. Also, the rooms facing the street (Nos. 10 - 15 I think) may experience some noise.

Location, you could walk everywhere in Ulverstone. Great to have a kettle tea, coffee, milk in room, and having the shampoo. conditioner, soap replenished daily. The room was quiet. cleaned daily.

On Friday and Saturday nights the noise from people having dinner and the children running around, the parents seemed to not care. I had my night meals else where, one occasion I had room service on the Saturday night as the noise was crazy.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. In a very good location and has the best price around here, not so far from Cradle Moutain. You can Hike at Cradle Mountain the whole day and rest here. We hiked at Credle Moutain for 3.5 hours hike from 11.30-3 pm. and then arrived at the hotel around 5.30 pm. If you feel lazy, there is a restaurant at the hotel, and you can even order food in your room. There are also many other restaurants within walking distance. Parking spot on the street or at the back.

Price quality was good. We paid around 116 AUD for 1 night and it was one of the best. The room is tidy and neat. Eventhough it is next to the road, it was very quiet. Parking for the night was free in front of the building. But if we remember correctly, they have an own parking lot. It is in town, so walking distance to the shops, restaurants and beach. Perfect place if you're in transit.

Although the room looks modern, the rest of the building looks like a retirement home. That is not really bad for the price you pay.

When I booked this property I must have been half asleep as I booked for the wrong day haha! I turned up at the lobby and the Receptionist was lovely and simply changed over my day at no extra cost. I was unaware that the rooms were upstairs above a Pokies, although once the Hotel Door was shut you couldn't hear any music. I only stayed for the night, the room was really clean and tidy. Based in a good location in Ulverstone. Close to Shops, Supermarkets and Restaurants.

I enjoyed my stay here. It was right in the center of town near restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores. My room stayed nice and cool despite the heat and humidity outside, and everything was very clean. The room had everything I needed. I'd stay here again.

The only thing I didn't like was that it was on the upstairs level of a pub, which I must have missed when booking. Fortunately, the pub/restaurant doesn't stay open too late, but there was often music playing during the day that I could hear in my room. It wasn't too bad though.

What did you like?: Basically everything. The overall comfort of the room. Good size; good cleanliness; lovely bathroom; good lighting (most hotels still give you dreadfully dim lighting, but that was NOT the case here, much to my delight); no 'kitchenette' officially but there was a microwave, which along with a kettle, is all I need; and lots of surface space to put all your things on. Staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. I've stayed at the Lighthouse several years running & will keep doing so. Also, I had to travel by coach this time, and discovered that the bus interchange is only 50m away. This tells me I could stay in this fab accommodation in Ulverstone and have a short coach trip to explore Penguin, Burnie and Devonport. Did once try another accommodation in Ulverstone but their rooms were too cold, and not central to the shopping strip.

What could have been better?: Without knocking, one of the cleaners unlocked my room door and simply came in (until she saw me of course, at which point she apologised and left). Walking in without knocking would be perfectly reasonable at 10am or later, but it was only around 9am, so I was left rather baffled.
