Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown

the location was ideal, the hotel was very nice, the staff was awesome

the parking was awful, very confusing. I was traveling with my elderly father, who is handicapped and as such has a handicapped placard. there was no handicapped parking. I had to drop him off at the door on the bottom level, as we were paying to park in the parking garage. he had to wait while I parked the car and then walk a long way to get to his room. It was frustrating, frightening, and disappointing! He has dementia, to drop him off was scary to say the least.

The breakfast was delightful. All the staff members were kind and thorough, especially the breakfast kitchen staff. Nice decor in the rooms and I loved all the natural light.

The design of the carpet made it look really dirty- just a weird choice. There were lights by the elevator that’s design made it look like it was full of dead bugs (it wasn’t but it really did look like that). The lock on my door didn’t really work right and didn’t look after we closed the door a few times.

Beautiful room. Great view. Good location for walking to local bars and restaurants. Nice breakfast. Pool looked inviting and so did lobby bar but did not use either .

The air conditioning was very loud. It was forced air. Could the air grate grill louvres be too small for the airflow creating the noise...have your maintenance dept check it out. It affected our sleep, woke us up when it kicked on.

We LOVED the view from our high rise! My daughter and I lucked out having the pool to ourselves. Lots of mermaid games were played. The array of items for breakfast was solid and much appreciated! My daughter said the eggs were the best! I enjoyed the breakfast burrito option. And Tonya at the front desk was a wonderful help and SO personable.

Only having a shower, especially with a small child who’s only a fan of bathing in bath tubs.

Best breakfast!! From all my hotel experiences in my life. Bacons cook just perfectly. Potatoes and waffles.. everything cooked so right. While eating breakfast we just so happy and surprised how so perfectly cooked each single food. And looks so clean too. Room was clean and good. All workers was so kinds and helpful!!

Wish they have hot tub in pool area.

The hotel is in downtown Iowa City and within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Parts of the University of Iowa are steps away and other parts a very quick drive. The best part…The staff. Checking in the young gentleman assisted me in my request and encouraged me to wait to talk with the morning staff about my request to save me money. (Needed to stay a half day longer) Upon checking out and 4 hours into our drive my son realized he left his Beats in the room. Noel was on it! She went to the room, found them and now working to get them back to us! If my son decides to attend college at the University of Iowa…I will be staying here many more times!

There’s nothing I didn’t like. There were things I would change like having better creamer in the rooms for coffee vs the powdered stuff that comes in the pack and maybe microwave.

The breakfast was excellent and the location was very convenient for accessing campus area. A lot of good restaurants within walking distance. The room itself was comfortable--not as large as expected.

The internet speed was relatively poor and carpet in the hallway could have been cleaner. Other than that, I would have to think hard about any negatives.

Every one treated us well. Big corner room was nice. Mason at the front desk was very good to us.

Staff should warn first timers on how to use their room card in elevator The property was understaffed. Bartender was not trained. She wanted to be helpful. But no knowledge of a Manhattan or Gin and Tonic. Double charged and extra $9.00 for the G and T. Did not catch till on the way home.

Breakfast was excellent. Without carpet in the main lobby, there was reverberation. The lobby was noisy when there were two or more people at the front desk. I was unable to get a good phone connection with my wife in my room on the 8th floor, so I went to the downstairs lobby to speak with her. But often the lobby was so noisy that I had to go around the corner to get so I could hear her. In my room (806), the toilet seat was very loose. But I told the desk and a nice young man came with tools and tightened it. This may be a problem in other rooms and maybe they should be checked.

The location was excellent and the staff was great. Christian at the front desk was super nice and helpful. Luxury stay with a family feel.

The breakfast buffet could have a slightly wider selection but it was good nonetheless.
