The Crown Hotel

We are relocating to the area from East Sussex and needed somewhere we could stay overnight with our sprocker. The Crown was absolutely amazing. We had a fantastically clean room with a wonderful space where we could let Maisie run around in a safely enclosed garden. The pub was extremely welcoming, food was amazing. The beds were really comfy, with night black out curtains. The lady who served us breakfast gave us a huge amount of information about the area. Breakfast was absolutely delicious snd when we move, we will certainly be coming back to try the toast dinners. Superb! Highly recommend to stay here.

People upstairs were noisy, but you get that anywhere.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my elderly mum. Lovely comfortable and clean room. I booked a twin room but was given a huge family room…very nice! Food in the pub was plentiful, delicious and good value for money. The staff were very friendly. A special mention to the breakfast staff who always found time to talk to us and advise us. The hotel is in a perfect location in a pretty village. Thoroughly recommend this lovely hotel.

Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. Location was perfect for what we needed. Hotel very responsive to requests i.e. disabled room; rooms close together. Really couldn't fault the hotel but as our rooms were in an out building I cannot really comment on the other bedrooms. Just a note that showergel was limited to 2 small sachets and no shampoo was provided but as I take my own toiletries it didn't cause an issue.

Car park was a little way from the hotel - not too far but my elderly father could not manage. Plus the carpark is really well hidden and, who I presume is a local resident, insisted in parking his large Range Rover so near the entrance in the small access lane you couldn't get the turn to access the car park area without going back on to the main road driving to nearest roundabout and accessing the lane from a different direction - not major but inconvenient. The only other silly issue are the flies - I know it's the height of summer but we had to leave the dining room in the evening earlier than planned because of the persistent flies; they were also very visible during breakfast service. I didn't notice any 'fly control' measures in place.

Room was large, well equipped, spotless and opened on to an enclosed courtyard, which was amazing as travelled with 2 large dogs. Was surprised (and pleased) by cooking facilities and dining area. Bathroom facilities were excellent. Pub was attached, excellent breakfast and dinner, lovely staff. Location for north Norfolk and Thetford was also good.

Only thing missing was some storage for personal belongings in the bedroom, wardrobe or chest of drawers needed

loved the character, staff were very friendly & helpful. I requested an early check in as we had a 2 hr journey & wanted to get dressed and have our belongings in the room as we were not returning till after midnight. Upon arrival an hour before normal check in our 2 rooms were ready, this helped enormously for us.

Mini shampoo & conditioner would have been handy. We only stayed for 1 night & unexpectedly I needed to wash my hair but unfortunately non was provided in the room. Not a big deal, just a good to have on this occasion. Also the electrical lead for the kettle was no way long enough to reach the plug so it had to be boiled on the floor in the hall way.

Room was what we expected for the age of the property. Pleasantly furnished due to restriction from ceiling angels. Bed linen was good. Size of room was good

Bed could have been more comfy. A bit hard. Thermostat on shower wasn’t working. Scalding hot. Someone came and turned it down to luke warm which was not very acceptable. Needs attending to properly. Steep stairs to room. Should check people have walking difficulties.

We stayed at this hotel while cycling the Rebellion Way. The hotel is situated in a pretty little village. We had a very warm welcome from the staff and were accommodated in Room 10 in the coach house which was perfect for us. We carried our bikes through so we could store them safely in the courtyard for the night. It was a perfect room for our needs. Dinner and breakfast were both good. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The village is fairly small so you need to head out to do anything. The pub was lovely with great food, happy and helpful staff and friendly locals. There's a chippy over the road and a village and butchers a 2 minute walk away. We stayed in Swiss cottage which was a lovely 3 bedroom cottage with its own garden. A lovely place to stay for a couple of nights and be self contained. The breakfast was included and was lovely served by a very jolly and helpful waitress. My wife didn't make it but they provided a veggie breakfast to takeaway, which was excellent client service. I would recommend The Crown as a good place to base yourself to explore South Norfolk. Thetford forest is moments away and there is a go ape place about 20 minute drive away. Set in a lovely park forest with archery, Segway and bike hire. A cafe and restaurant or a great place to picnic.

Range of facilities, cleanliness of rooms, quality of food, character of the buildings, friendliness of staff, garden, breakfast, location, parking, overall value for money.

Rooms with eaves small and not friendly to tall people. Seperate buildings mean potential to get wet if raining and need to go to eat in main building. No designated reception area for check in/out. WiFi not consistently strong across the various buildings. These issues did not distract from the enjoyment of my stay however, this was actually my second stay at the hotel/Inn.

The property was nice and quiet. They had a nice pub garden around the back of the pub, and also a large bar and seating area inside. The room itself was around the corner from the main area which was nice as there was no noise heard. Had all the facilities you may need for a short stay. A nice dresser to get ready and a bathroom.

We did get a little confused over breakfast. I think it was main our fault but we ended up missing it as we thought it came to the room but you had to go down to get it.
