Very clean, central to town, traditional interior and staff helpful.

The shower! To turn on the shower and avoid a freezing cold soaking, one had to stand with the sliding doors open, thus getting the floor wet. As there was no thermostat, this required several ventures into the freezing shower to try to adjust the taps, thus ending up with a lake on the bathroom floor. It took longer to get the temperature right than it did to have the shower! Also no soap dish. Otherwise a decent bathroom. There was no where obvious in the bedroom saying what the password was for the Wifi - I tried ringing reception but there was no reply so had to go downstairs specially to enquire, which is was not easy as I have difficulty using stairs.

Breakfast is amazing: enormous menu, everything I tried was top quality and there really was as much as you could eat. The room was absolutely fine: clean and everything worked. I liked the wetroom. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful: even the barmaid, who seemed to strenuously ignore you did actually provide reasonable service.

Large dinner menu, but the boeuf bourguignon I had on the first night was shocking: cubes of previously-cooked beef, reheated in a pale brown sauce. Quite the worst boeuf bourguignon I have ever had. Mattress that 'twanged' every time I moved.

They accommodated me late because I'm a wedding photographer and finished late, and I was met by the super friendly Courtney who was fantastic and couldn't do enough for me. Such a lovely person. The room.was facing the high street but I couldn't hear anything outside or in the bar because the windows had a double layer and I was two floors up, so it was absolutely fine noise wise. WiFi was great and there was a TV in the room. The bed was super comfortable and I slept like a log all night! The staff were super friendly again in the morning and breakfast was fantastic, with a choice of cereals, drinks and a full English. For the price, it was absolutely perfect and thank you for your hospitality, I felt very welcome!

Nothing I can think of!

Staff were super friendly, I've stayed at the boar's head several times now, both on my own and with family, and i would happily stay there again, indeed it's now my first choice for a Carmarthen B&B, and not simply because it's one of the most affordable. The rooms I've stayed in have mostly been agreeably spacious and entirely comfortable. The WiFi is great - I've attended business meetings online via VPN without hassle. Overall, I can't think of any reason, apart from if you need 24hr check in, to stay anywhere else in Carmarthen. On occasion I've been unable to get a room at the Boar's Head and had to go to another (pricier) place and the room was smaller and certainly no better.

At the price, to be honest, there's nothing I would even think about complaining about. Not the height of luxury but more than adequate. Car park a bit small and narrow to get into, but didn't find it an issue in practice. Check in isn't 24hr, but pub closing time is late enough in most circumstances.

Centrally located hotel with quirky features. My room is pleasantly clean and comfortable enough for a night’s stay. For the price that I paid, it’s very worth it - considering it comes with a breakfast. I think it is perfect for travellers. Love the hair dryer and the ensuite shower.

Thin walls - there was a guest playing loud music in the other room until late although I sleep late normally. The restaurant staff has a personality of a rock - I tried to engage with a smile and received none. Benefit of the doubt, maybe they had a rough night or just learning the trade.

Cracking value for money - we took advantage of excellent Booking.com mobile only pricing and grabbed ourselves a bargain. We stay at this hotel by default a couple of times a year, and can't really fault its value for money. Staff are excellent, decent enough breakfast, the public rooms are fine and the pub welcoming, plus its right in the centre of town,... and the bedrooms reflect the price point. It looks like they are investing in progressive refurbishment to update the more 'tired' bedrooms too. We had a minor issue with our allocated room - which was quickly upgraded upon request.

Main street facing rooms can be noisy with the street cleaners early morning. For the low price point we paid - there is nothing really to take issue with. There are better hotels for sure in Camarthen - but we don't think any offer this kind of value.

Some maintenance issues in the family room…loose bathroom sink tap, ceiling damage to decor caused by leaks from the bedroom above. Bar and receptionist staff on day one were really friendly but…older staff at the bar later were pretty miserable tbh. Im a really friendly person myself so when I experience this i always feel let down. Breakfasts were nice, so to the staff we interacted with. They were jolly and welcoming.

Bar staff later on. Poorly maintained bathroom fixings and plasterwork sagging and tired in places

This is a great place to stay in the middle of Carmarthen, the food is good and good value for money - nothing fancy, just decent food at a very fair price. The room was fine, the bathroom was huge with a bath. The breakfast was really good - generous portions and good quality, proper "full English". The room was very warm, maybe because my bed was up against the radiator... The staff were nice and friendly and helpful too.

It's a right old climb up the stairs to the room: old building, so nothing much they can do about that. The music in the bar was a bit odd: some stuff from the 1950s and 1960s, but not the good stuff - like a compilation of B sides. The public areas were pretty cold, and the bar didn't have a lot of atmosphere, but none of this was serious stuff. Earplugs and woollies, and you're fine!

Good location, room and bathroom bigger than expected. Comfortable bed, friendly staff. Easy to check in and we liked that we were able to park on site.

Would’ve liked some more options for breakfast, had to ask for water as only orange juice available (I don’t drink tea or coffee). Would’ve preferred not to have staff hoovering during breakfast on one of the days. Live music was happening on one of the evenings that we weren’t aware of when we booked but appreciate we did book to stay in a hotel in a bar, and I’d packed ear plugs!
