Nungwi Dreams by Mantis

We stayed at Nungwi Dreams Hotel in mid of December . We had beachfront rooms . Amazing view , you can hear waves , sometimes too much at night with the doors closed , private beach . The resort has vibe of Greece island such as Santorini or Zakinthos island . Two nice infinity pools , bar outside , rooftop restaurant , excellent breakfast. If going to swim in the ocean make sure to have water shoes . Walking distance to the swim with turtles place also on the way there you can visit feed and play with the monkeys , at the local mini zoo . Staff were amazing !!

My perfume went missing in our room and I only realised when I was unpacking.

The staff were all very lovely and helpful, lunchtime food was freshly cooked, Good location, but the roads were horribly atrocious needs to ve sorted out immediately, would love to come again but would have to seriously think about the horrible bumpy roads so may choose different location.

Great Staff. Rooms and hotel in general always clean and working. Breakfast doesn't have much of continental options, but lunch and dinner are very good. Good dinner entertainment. (Best to have breakfast and dinner/lunch included, has there is nothing close to eat, other than other resort next to it) Both pools in great conditions, plus sea right next to the pool.

Road to the Hotel is one of the worst. Takes you 15m to do 3km from the "main road" to the hotel. Coffee (expresso) are still not expresso.. almost like a small Americano. If you need expresso try ask " Single Shot Expresso " Lacks a bit of entertainment during the day or even the nights. Careful with the payment options during happy hour, because it will charge you full price if you don't check the bill.

Breakfast menu and varieties were awesome although our experience on ala cart dinner was not so pleasing. Also the property can add some beach activities for fun will get some extra fun for visitors.

Despite the fact that this was my first stay, I would say the chef did an excellent job as the barbecue dinner and breakfast were both delectable. The overall surroundings have also been exquisitely put up. I loved it.

The pool with the view is nice, good breakfast and taxis are always available. Security is always there and the staff are always smiling. The food in the restaurant is excellent and highly recommended.

the room doesn’t match what is in the picture as the receptionist kept arguing that there is a difference between the sea view and the beach view and we ended up with a restaurant view :/ . The checkout is very early and they always try to find a way to make you pay. the activity office is extremely overpriced and he is just a broker, it’s better to go and search for the actual activity providers and you will save half the price.

Absolutely everything else. We were lucky to be upgraded to the Presidential Villa and it was stunning, with balcony and bedroom views of the ocean a few metres away. There was a private pool as well. The staff was friendly, responsive, attentive and helpful. The hotel facilities are amazing and world class. You will find yourself surprised you are still in Zanzibar. The outdoor infinity pool boasts beautiful views of the ocean.

The food was quite bland and a little disappointing for a 5 star hotel. Buffet dinner was also disappointing with limited options and poor flavour. Cake on special request didn't look right, had spelling mistakes and the cake itself was spongey. I would suggest if you must have a meal, do Breakfast only. Lastly the road to the hotel is a terrible gravel road of about 2km but takes at least 30 mins to traverse - this is not unique to this hotel alone and even others suffer from this flaw.

Breakfast was fine with good selection, delicious fresh fruits. Room was spacious, with nice balcony and view, quite comfortable bed. Hotel is a modern western style, wifi was good. Very friendly and helpful staff, they offer a shower room if you leave hotel after check out time. View from swimming pool is amazing.

Some areas in the hotel require maintenance, it looks like era of 5 starts has passed already. Be aware that on the north east side of Nungwi during the day there is low wave than you want swim in the ocean. Hotel should be for adults only. Poor selection for dinner.

My husband and I spent almost 2 weeks in Zanzibar in January 2022. We have stayed at 4 different areas of the island, in 5 different hotels, Nungwi Dreams by Mantis being the second last one. While Nungwi is well known of its beach clubs, parties and night life, due to its location this hotel provides a nice, quiet and peaceful environment. The room we stayed in was literally at the beach, during high tide the ocean was about 10 meters from us. It was most beautiful! The room itself was very spacious, with a comfortable kind size bed, air-conditioning, a large bathroom and balcony. The hotel has a nice pool, comfortable sun beds, a pool bar/restaurant and another restaurant with a roof top in the main building. Reception communicates with the guests via WhatsApp, which is very comfortable: there is no need to walk to the reception or call them, everything can be arranged just by a simple text message. Wifi always worked perfectly. Breakfast was really good, great variety. So was the food at the pool restaurant. Occasionally the hotel provided special dinner events for extra 25USD, e.g. Sea food BBQ with some show. We had a great time. The beach is beautiful. When there is low tide, you can walk miles in the sand. Make sure though to wear beach shoes when going into the water as there are lots of sea urchins. The Nungwi Aquarium, where you can swim with sea turtles and feed them, is just a 10-minutes walk from the hotel.

Even though checking-in was at 2p.m., we had to wait almost an hour for our room to be ready, which wasn't pleasant. Other than that, there is nothing to complain about. If I really have to find something that could be improved, it's the road leading to the hotel. It is extremely bumpy, but that's not the hotel's fault.
