Agnus Unawatuna

This was the seventh and last place we stayed in Sri Lanka and it was a great hotel to finish our tour. It is a 20 minute tuk tuk ride to/from the hustle and bustle of Fort Galle so was lovely to return to the quietness of Agnus. Our room was a corner one on the north side with superb views looking over the bay to Fort Galle. Staff helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast and one of the better dinners we had touring SL. Enjoyed relaxing on the roof at the infiniti pool. If going down to the Jungle Beach make sure to go to the correct beach. There are two. The one closer to the hotel much the better.

Seems minor but the music at the roof bar/pool was on an hour loop. Hearing the same songs (including the lovely (Califonia Dreamin') several times nearly put me over the edge!

Beautiful boutique hotel made even more perfect by the extremely attentive staff. We were perfectly catered for, and the hotel manager went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. It was by far the best hotel we stayed in in Sri Lanka, and if I came again here, I would definitely come to this place. The room was large, clean, and smelled fresh, not like the other hotel we stayed in Mirissa. The bed was large and very comfortable. The hotel is situated on a hill crest and if offers an amazing view. Even the rooms marked as garden view offer a very nice view. They also offer a free tuk tuk service to go to Jungle Beach, which make it a great option if you are looking to relax by the beach. They also have a nice rooftop pool that you can relax in while admiring the sunset. Overall, it was a great hotel for a romantic getaway. We only had breakfast, but the food was good, and the prices were decent for lunch, dinner, and drinks.

There was little noise from the construction site nearby, but they would stop if you asked them. Plus, the noise started only around 9 am. I might have complained about this, but because everything else was perfect, I didn't mind it that much. The WiFi was a little unstable, so you need to reconnect every now and then, but the connection had a good speed.

Beautiful boutique hotel with rooftop pool and bar area. Stunning views across the ocean and Galle. I recommend the sea view room with balcony. We sat and had drinks before dinner watching the sunset. Bed was a little hard for my liking but facilities are very good. The food in the restaurant was excellent, we ate their both nights of our stay. They offer a free shittle service to jungle beach which is beautiful (you still have to walk down the hill through the jungle). We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

Beautiful hotel with a wonderful view of the sea, modern and with all facilities. The staff were extremely nice and accommodating, helpful and welcoming. The hotel manager and the receptionist were amazing, the best service we ever had. Extremely nice environment in the middle of the jungle, genuine and unspoiled. The excursions we made advised by the hotel manager and the beautiful young lady at the reception were unforgettable and we are really thankful for the opportunity to visit this special places. Thank you for the hospitality and for a holiday that learned us so much about the beautiful Sri Lanka.

We looked for the most feasible spot in terms of location, views, food and budget. Agnus Villa matched with all. Our budget was LKR 35,000 for 4 people ( 8750 per person) with Bed and Breakfast. (One night-Two Full Sea View Rooms) GET A (full) SEA VIEW ROOM TO MAKE YOUR MONEY WORTH THE WHILE :) Did not see the garden rooms but it’s easy math. Note they don’t have a 24h front desk but they give all details in a welcome letter. THE GOOD The Rooms: *Get a Full Sea View Room to make your money worthwhile. Clean. Wifi, satellite tv, coffee/tea maker, wardrobe space, comfortable beds, excellent lighting options both natural and artificial etc. Any other need can be communicated to the reception. Balcony is great for a group of friends spending the night for a game night or a food and drink overlooking the sea. Bathrooms were up to standard for a location of this level, nothing to complain about. Towels, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and soap were available. We took our own brushes. Showers worked well no issue encountered. The View: A solid 10/10 for the views. Amazing panoramic view of the beach strip, ships, boats and whatnot, The Japanese Peace Pagoda, Lighthouse and partial city views. Loved it. The Pool: Again a clean, picturesque infinity pool with the same great views. Since there are only 10 rooms in the property no crowd to be expected. There’s a small pool bar which we did not use. Ample space on rooftop to sit and relax by the pool. Pictures attached. The Food: We initially paid for breakfast but ended up having lunch and dinner. Breakfast exceeded our expectations as this is a boutique villa and not a big hotel. Pictures attached. Dinner and Lunch was alright. We were satisfied. Cream Caramel wasn’t the best I’ve had though. The Staff: Excellent Unbiased Staff. From the receptionist lady and gent, restaurant staff everyone here was extremely accommodating.

Modern and luxurious hotel with spectacular views. The sea view room was beautiful and clean. The breakfast was the best we had so far in Sri Lanka. You get amazing coffee from Jura machine and a great continental breakfast. This was the first place I got chocolate cereal 😄. We ordered from room service and the food was really good, especially the fries. The staff is very helpful and friendly and they even offered us to use the spa shower after the checkout, because we are leaving in the evening and left our bags there for the day.

We liked everything, it was a lovely hotel, amazing views, close to jungle beach and a short tuk tuk to Galle. Breakfast was big and tasty. Evening sunsets and pool area were great. Restaurant waiter was very hard working and good.

Improvements. Lots of noise during the day from moving chairs if you are under the restaurant. I would add small pads to each chair to prevent the noise, it's a simple solution.

The staff are super friendly. Ranjit helped us and make us feel welcome. Our room was big and spacious with a good bathroom. We had a stunning view of the peace stupa from our room too and the beach. The cocktails on the lounge upstairs were so delicious and the infinity pool is perfect! We also had dinner here one night - very yummy and huge portions. They also do an amazing Sri Lankan breakfast - very hearty! There’s also a free Tuktuk shuttle from the hotel to Jungle Beach (which is so so beautiful) I would definitely stay here again.

Only word for this place WOW!! This hotel couldn't be recommend more by us. From the facilities to the location to the FOOD!! Oh my it was the best stay we had. We arrived and the staff were so welcoming and kind. We had refreshments and our beautiful room was ready even when we arrived before check in. We had a huge, beautifully clean room with a stunning garden view that got the sunset in the evenings. We were walking distance to the main Jungle Beach and Japanese Temple. The hotel generously provided a TukTuk to the beach and we strolled back in about 10 mins. We had drinks on the room at night it was spectacular. We enjoyed the pool over looking the jungle and views of Galle by day and night. The pool area was beautiful. The food was the best part. We have never had food like it. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinners our whole stay as the food was out of this world! I will miss the food the most. We sampled both the English and Sri Lankan brekkies and wow! Our two waiters were so lovely and got us everything we needed. As we were leaving early a breakfast was provided for us in a takeaway carrier. We couldn't recommend this place enough.

Hotel Manager Ranjith went above and beyond in helping me during my trip. I had an issue where I thought I lost my scooter in the middle of the night. Ranjith and his team came to my rescue, they were very kind and comforting the whole time. The service was outstanding and is the biggest reason for the 10 rating. Hotel is rather secluded. Take in one of the best views of Galle Fort and the Bay. Enjoy the sunset from the rooftop bar, deck chairs, and infinity pool. Room was excellent: clean, spacious, and modern. Hey, what do you scent all the towels with? They smell amazing.

Guests should be aware that the hotel is not in walking distance to anything, except perhaps jungle beach. I highly recommend that you rent a scooter as so many travelers here do. As a suggestion, I think the hotel should offer to arrange transfers from the train/bus station to the hotel.
