Casa Mathilde Sintra

An old family type house with its history, smells and a lot of small things around you. a very good balcony. Location is good. Not far from the train station where all busses start. You will need to go there to catch bus 434 to Peña palace. Gaby is really friendly and provide us with information how to get to places in Sintra. There are a lot of places to it in walking distance. kitchen is equipped with everything you need in a case of you would like to cook at home. Haby speaks good English

The details in the house are great. There is much love in the rooms and furniture, the bed is supercomfortable. A cosy feeling like home and great for travelers who travel alone. Take a 2 minutes walk to have coffee, eat local food or have a drink in the bar. It’s a 15 minute walk to the historical centre (with more expensive and touristic restaurants) with the great palaces around.

The host family was exceptional! We had such great conversations with both Joao and Gaby. If you're looking for a warm, "like home" and family feeling... This is the place you should stay at! The rooms are incredibly set, each with their own unique theme and beautiful knick knacks. The kitchen is equipped with everything and more that one would need to cook a nice dinner (also for the hosts 😉). Definitely coming again!

Casa Mathilda is a cosy address in Sintra. It is just a trickle away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centre. And has a charming and homely vibe about it. Gaby is a lovely host and we felt very welcome in her beautiful, eclectic home. The bed was super comfortable and we slept our most peaceful sleep in Portugal here.

The room was a bit cramped (or extra cosy). It probably felt so because it didn't have any windows (something that I overlooked and was mentioned in the booking details, so it was my bad to that extent). Otherwise, everything was perfect!

We liked the outdoor patio, sitting room, and kitchen. Spacious bathroom. Only a few minutes walk to train stations and Sintra’s sites. Gaby was very helpful with visitor information. All very clean and tidy.

Our room was in the back of the building with no exterior window, so was very stuffy, even with a fan. We were charged 5 Euros to store our luggage only an hour from checkin which we felt was a bit of a money grab...

all is good

we originally booked a bedroom with shared bathroom, but good a complete apartment instead due to some changes. The apartment was super nice, spacious and clean. we arrived in the midst of a heatwave and all the main attractions in Sintra were closed. since we were staying for 2 nights and had mainly planned to go see the palaces etc, we were a bit unsure about what to do during our stay. But when we arrived the host immediately gave us lots of recommendations of things to do in the area -without us even asking for it. It really felt like she wanted to make sure we still had a good time in Sintra. We really appreciated this and the places she recommended were really good. The apartment itself was in a good location as well - walking distance from the old town, some shops and multiple bus stops. we could also drop of our luggage already before check in, which was very nice.

Can’t think of anything we didn’t like!

Lovely accommodation and even nicer owner (Gaby) who gave me the perfect advise on what to see and do with the time I had in Sintra. Very clean and private, nice kitchen and outside space, comfy bed Loved the thoughtful touches of the room, which was well-equipped, and especially the filled water bottle next to the bed (such a simple thing but raised my level of comfort so much) Supereasy to reach w public transport

Casa Mathilde is the best place I’ve stayed at through a booking platform. Not for it’s luxury but for how much thought and love was put into the apartment. Gaby is such a sweet soul, and her husband has an eye for interior design. The location is perfect, each room has its own theme. (we stayed in the music room). Everything in the house was in order. Gaby was willing to book us in 10 hours before our scheduled time at the shortest notice. She gave me a plant seedling and some cookies. She also was very responsive to all our calls and questions. She gave us the keys when we arrived and told us to leave the keys on the bed when to the room and apartment on checking out.

The con about the apartment is that we only spent one night.

Where do I begin! It’s in a perfect location only a short walk from the central area, but tucked into quiet suburban street to give you more of that local feel. We felt super safe and comfortable! Gaby is SO helpful, generous and hard working, she’s the heart and soul to that place. The space gives you the home away from home feeling, I recommend staying at least a few nights!
