Hotel Zuiderduin

The hotels biggest advantage is that it has a lot of facilities: swimming pool, whirl pool, 5 saunas and one steambath. But also an Irish Pub, a brasserie and the main restaurant (buffet)... There's a billiard table, fitness center and apparently a squash hall. It is super conveniently located and has a parking garage. Parking was well organized - I could register my car number plate in advance and was able to park from 1pm onwards. They were strict about the room check-in time though. Not before 15.00. Considering you have to check out by 10:30 the next day- I find 3 check in rather late. Breakfast was just ok - products used seemed on the budget and basic side. Presentation was also quite uninspiring. I expected more for a hotel of that size and number of guests. The sauna costs 7.50 Euro - I think this is a fair fee. It's worth it. It's extremely rare to have a choice of 6 saunas in a hotel.

Rooms / furniture are outdated. The bathroom was ok - seemed newer than the bedroom.

Location in Egmond. Breakfast was outstanding. Rooms and public spaces were good but some parts could use some updating.

The hotel and rooms could use some updating. Other guests arriving (after partying) arrived after 2am being noisy in the corridors and on their balcony. Because there is no air conditioning, we left the windows open. But this of course exposed us to the noisy guests, their smoke and at times the staff taking breaks off the back-of-house spaces below. Maybe the hotel could remind guests the impact their bad behavior has on others. It cost them nothing but our experience and the value of an already expensive room were diminished.

Location is good. Train ride from Amsterdam for about 30-40 minutes followed by a bus ride from Alkmaar station for about 20-30 minutes. Bus stop is 1 minute walk from the hotel. Beachfront is about 5 minute walk. Food at restaurant is good. Facilities are great - there is a swimming pool (indoor) with sauna (additional charge). Breakfast was extensive as well. Staff were pleasant all the time. Check in and cheek out times are strict.

Rooms could be cleaner. Carpets in the hallways were dusty and spaces under beds were not vacuum cleaned properly. The temperature in rooms are higher than expected (it seemed that ventilation is not working well). We stayed just for one night so we did not notice any other things that could make us complain about.

The staff was friendly. The were helpful and could speak german english and Dutch. I stayed there for a week with my wife and my 4 year old daughter. It was a 5 minute walk to the beach. Perfect distance for my daughter. Furthermore they had an free to use kids fun park. She could play with other kids while we could do something else. Amsterdam and Alkmaar is easy to reach. We took the train to amsterdan from Heiloo trainstation. Its just a 10 minutes drive by car.

The breakfast was okay. Nothing else. My room / bath had a bad smell. Maybe there was something wrong with the ventilation. The bed was confortable. Overall the furniture and the floor looked a bit old and used.

A lot of extra facilities like a swimming pool, fitness space, bistro, etc. The receptionists and staff were very welcoming, polite and quick. Everything was clean and fresh… We really had a very enjoyable stay. This is a real hotel. And it really felt like a proper outing.

The only downside was the beds. The mattresses were too soft/saggy for our taste. But I am just used to having a tougher mattress I guess.

We loved the sauna, the pool, the breakfast, how we were helped and talked to at the check in. Bowling experience was very nice too, the waiter was super fast with bringing the drinks and very friendly

There was one lady in the first day of our stay at the welness center reception that was a bit rude and unwelcoming. It was one of the few places where I didn't feel comfortable to go, so I send my boyfriend to talk. When she was speaking Dutch to him, she was so sweet and welcoming, I couldn't believe my eyes...it was funny and sad

Spa area, big bright room, big nice bathroom, pleasant staff, nice breakfast, parking next to the hotel, balcony view to the sea, tv, squash area, gym, nice restaurant

No robs, no slippers, no free towels in spa area, not comfortable mattress, no fridge in the room, no mini bar, no bottled water. Check in at 3, check out at 10:30 what is just strange. All the rest was just perfect.

Great stay with two of my friends. We each had our own standard room, with a bath and coffee/tea facilities. Had stayed here before for work, so I knew it was comfortable and close to the beach. What drew me back, besides it’s great location, were the sauna facilities - they are fantastic.

The rooms get a bit warm, and have no central airconditioning. That’s absolutely fine in just about every season, except for summer, I imagine.

The hotel staff are amazing. Everybody from reception to restaurant were friendly, kind and cheerful. Made the stay easy and light and enjoyable. The staff deserves a huge kudos for how much they were creating hospitality. The location of the hotel, especially for the value, is unbeatable. 4 min walk and you are on the beach. The free large parking was a wonderful surprise, and the breakfast is hearty and fun.

The hotel is huge but a little bit run down. Everything shows wear and tear, from the carpets to the linen to the towels. You can see that it has been very heavily used and needs an update. It might also be because of the size of the hotel and a cut down on staff during Covid restrictions but there was nobody to enforce customers adhering to covid measures. Too many people moving around maskless, gathering in common spaces, and not taking enough responsibility for their behaviour.

Big and comfortable room, with nice bathroom. Very good breakfast. Good location, close to the main square and the beach. Renovated lobby and common areas.

Very difficult to navigate around the hotel to find the room and restaurant for the first time. Late check-in (3pm) and early check-out(10:30am). Carpets in rooms need to be replaced, old and dirty, however all the rest was clean.
